My husband's sister died today. She was 37. She had one grown daughter, an eight year old, and a one year old. Her husband lost his mother less than six months ago. His father and brother both died when he was a child. The hospital doesn't know why she died. The coronor's doing an autopsy.
She always was sickly. She was born with a hole in her heart. Later on in life, she develped Crohn's disease. She had a small tear in her intestine which was causing her to catch continuous infections but no surgeon in our town would operate to repair it as there was an over ninety percent chance of it returning due to the Crohn's, the family's been told. She'd been getting large abcesses on her legs and this was the second time she'd been hospitalized to have one removed. They couldn't be lanced because they were more solid than liquid.
She was running a low grade fever this morning, still at the hospital. She was sleeping, and her husband fell asleep in the chair next to the bed. When he woke up, she was lying on the floor. He called for a nurse who discovered she didn't have a pulse. The doctors and staff tried to start her heart back up and get her on a breathing machine but it was just too late.
Because she was so young and there was no apparant reason for her death, her room was treated like a crime scene. Everything was photographed and tagged. We're not sure when we can bury her or get her stuff.
I'm just kind of numb right now. She was the youngest sibling. It's just crazy.
