  1. But the bible was written also in Greek, and understanding the root of any word is important. Even just understanding the plain meaning is important. It is also good to have a working knowledge of some Latin, even in everyday life, because so many English words stem from the Latin. The study of the scriptures is enhanced when one understands the original word/s and intention/meaning of scripture, and a course in hermeneutics is a good way to start? For me it is not about looking up the Greek meaning to try and change my understanding of Scripture to fit my needs, it is about understanding the scripture better, in order to increase my knowledge. That is good if studying Greek helps you in your understanding of scripture. My objection is when a person changes what a Bible version says; by saying he or she has a better translation. What a Greek word means today, may very well have had a total different meaning to the author of the Bible verse. Gay meant happy when I was young.
  2. I would like to share some of the tools people use to twist the written Word of God. The tool often used is the Greek Word. I believe the Holy Spirit was much involved with the people that translated the Greek scripture to the English version. I also believe they understood the Greek as well or better than the people who try to make people believe the English version is not accurate. What a con and an elitist act it is to use a study of a language to try and convince others he or she is right because they have some special knowledge of a language. Hyperbole is also used a lot. Jesus did not mean that it is just an exaggeration. Then people will go on and tell one what he really meant. Tell me how does anyone know unless Jesus told him or her? If Jesus told them he will tell us also right? Metaphorically Is used much the same way as hyperbole, and the people who use this tool are of course the experts who can tell one just what Jesus meant. Wow they must be really intelligent, like us simple people can
  3. The Bible never mentions the Eucharist. The term Eucharist is a post biblical concept. Furthermore, the Bible is very clear in what it means and does not really leave any room for guesswork. The elements of communion are symbols of the body and blood of Jesus. They are emblems of His suffering. They are not the literal body and blood of Jesus. Jesus is not going to tell you one thing and tell someone else something different. That is why we have the Bible. It alone is the plumline of truth. Yes. It also is steeped in idolatry, so I don't really see it as having any authority over me. Yes. I don
  4. I am new here, and may have posted to a wrong person. Shiloh357, Before you start telling someone else what sprit he or she may be listening to, you should know what you are talking about at least. You could say that you do think God would tell some one this or that, but who are you that you know so much? Is it your job to tell everyone if they are listening to God or not? You have an opinion and on forums that are OK to express, but unless it is scripture all it is; is opinion. Scripture says the Eucharist is the Body and Blood of Jesus. Now what that means should be left up to what Jesus tells each of us. Do you think it matters to God if one believes the Eucharist is transubstantiation or not? You made an assumption about what I believe, and had the nerve to say I was listening to a wrong spirit. That is one true insult. Is that kind of language allowed on this forum? I wish I did believe in transubstantiation, because you believe it is so wrong. Do you realize the largest Christian Church says you are wrong? In your opinion all those people are listening to the wrong spirit, is that right? As you can see having people tell me I am listening to the wrong spirit is not taken lightly by me. hiloh357
  5. "A" spirit may have told you that, but it was not the Holy Spirit. You are speaking of transubstantiation which is later doctrine that the RCC retroactively interprets into the Bible. It was originally put forth by Ambrose. The elements of communion serve to remind us of the price Jesus paid for our sins. They are not mystically transformed into the literal body and blood of Jesus. That is nothing but mystical lore and is not found anywhere in Scripture. Before you start telling someone else what sprit he or she may be listening to, you should know what you are talking about at least. You could say that you do think God would tell some one this or that, but who are you that you know so much? Is it your job to tell everyone if they are listening to God or not? I have had a close personal relationship with Jesus for over thirty years, and he is my God, and my Lord. Everything I do is in and through him.
  6. So could you stand by and watch one of your own children be harmed in front of you, and had you been armed you could have stopped it from happening? do you have children? Yes I do....3 actually, and I will defend them if their lives are ever in danger. To love Jesus is to hear his Word and live that Word. (Matthew 5:39)
  7. I hope and pray that you never experience a person breaking into your house when you are at home...... and they know you're home... it's a very enlightening experience. A wife and two kids, one fears more than death Josephine. Living with the thought that I might set by and let my wife and daughter be molested by some pervert when I could have prevented is a fate much worse than death. Being dead is no big deal........ While I don't put my trust in guns, God did give me a whole big bucket full of commmon sense and a internal system of self protection. i hope not also. i pray every day for the protection of my baby and my husband, and i trust God to do that. i pray you will too. (Matthew 5:39) "You have learnt how it was said: 'Eye for eye and tooth for tooth.' But I say this to you: offer the wicked man no resistance." You notice what Jesus said? He said it used to be that I wanted Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth, but now I want you to offer the wicked man no resistance. Our job is to obey God. We are to let his will be done. Grace to you, It would help us to understand each other if you would tell us a little about yourself. Then we could talk Doctrine and not talk past each other. Are you a Quaker? peace, Dave No I am not a Quaker. I was a Catholic for forty years. Jesus called me into his ministry, and when I asked him what seminary to attend he said no don

  9. Who told you that no one was perfect except Jesus? Jesus called us to be perfect. If he called us to be perfect then he must have given us the ability to become perfect. (Matthew 5:48) "Even the pagans do as much, do they not? You must therefore be perfect just as your heavenly Father is perfect." God's Word.... The mature in Christ are those who have gotten close enough to know what this woman has spoken of.... God has called us to be Holy 1 Peter 1:15-17 15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 because it is written, "Be holy, for I am holy." 17 And if you call on the Father, who without partiality judges according to each one's work, conduct yourselves throughout the time of your stay here in fear; NKJV Why fear? because the Holy Spirit testifies to us that we are sinning and selfishness and selfcenteredness is still present in our decisions at times and for those who say different- 1 John 1:8-10 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. NKJV You see the truth of the above permanently breaks the spirit of man and delivers a contrite heart to the need of forgiveness for in God alone is our salvation in His righteousness alone- Ps 34:18-22 18 The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit. 19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the Lord delivers him out of them all. 20 He guards all his bones; Not one of them is broken. 21 Evil shall slay the wicked, And those who hate the righteous shall be condemned. 22 The Lord redeems the soul of His servants, And none of those who trust in Him shall be condemned. NKJV This is the repentive heart she speaks of that He deserves that we be Holy and we agree but cannot accomplish in ourselves... I cannot count the tears of this sorrow in myself for the closer I get to His Person in the strength of His Spirit in the beauty of His Word I KNOW WHAT I AM RECEIVING FROM HIM IS NOT WHAT I DESERVE.... self righteousness is a huge dragnet of religious folks into eternal hell! Love Steven (1 John 1: 8-10)
  10. ' Actually the Bible says thou shalt not commit murder. It doesn't say not kill. The Israelites killed thousands upon thousands of people. We are supposed to love our enemies, but that doesn't mean we have to let them harm our families. (Matthew 5:39)
