  1. The idea of karma is similar to "you reap what you sow" only difference is karma happens to you in your next life on earth and stands apart from any kind of omnipotent God. It's more like a function of the universe. While you "reap what you sow" is part of an analogy that explains God's nature and how he judges. If you show mercy on earth then you will be shown mercy on judgment day. But you can see some of the Truth of the true Judeo-Christian God Jehovah written in between the lines of other religions. But (to me at least) the other religions missed the mark though they got kinda close with karma. lol
  2. Genesis says "And the Earth gave forth" that means evolution to me. I think God created us using His organized and perfect system called natural selection. Dinosaurs happened in between the lines of "fish of the sea and birds of the air" Since birds are the descendants of dinosaurs. This makes sense. Biologos.org Is for Christians who believe God created evolution. Much like how a computer whiz writes a program.
  3. The creation account was simplified into a 7 day format. Dinosaurs were real. The rigid ignorance I see in Christians is turning people away from our faith, and I think it is sad. But I see that, like the pharisees, some people will never change from their archaic grasp on reality. Knowledge has greatly increased now that we are in the end of days. The debate has reached a shallow state (well none of us speak Hebrew so you know...) So long folks, enjoy your life defending your faith against science. PS wheres your literal helmet of salvation in your photo? Obviously its a figurative spiritual kind of helmet...come on! lol peace.
  4. "Dumb it down" is a figure of speech which means that Jesus is simplifying mysterious things into parables. I know that God in his supreme intellect completely understands what I mean and where I am coming from.
  5. You took it out of context in the most shallow way. We are made alive in Christ, until then, because of the fall, we are spiritually dead. The devil was lying by saying you will not surly die, (I'm saying they didn't physically die that day jeeze) he was saying that they would be like God and will not spiritually die when they eat the apple. I'm saying they didn't physically die that day. The devil said you will not die. I'm trying to explain that "the day" is broad. It says they would die "the day" they ate the apple, which they did not because they lived on and had kids. So anyway, obviously they were not immortal at the time of eating the Apple, it is speaking of spiritual death because... 22And the LordGod said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.” You see what I mean Fresno? I'm not speaking a duet with Satan. You ignore the proof I give in Hebrew (I showed the article was present in Genesis 2:4.) And instead you wait till I am speaking frankly so you can easily target something that you can take out of context. All of your posts on this website are presented as an ultimatum of some sort paired with a scripture taken out of context. Very Pharisee-like.
  6. bə·yō·wm, בְּי֗וֹם the day 6213 [e] "beyowm" means "the day" This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day when God created man, He made him in the likeness of God. Gen5:1 but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die." Gen 2:17 beyowm is used in both scriptures. Obviously Adam didn't die the day he ate the apple. And to me obviously God didn't create humans in one day. But now, thus says the Lord, your Creator, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel, Do not fear for I have redeemed you;....Isaiah 43:1 Obviously Israel wasn't formed in one day. We shouldn't think we were formed in one day either. The seven day format of creation is great because it presents it all as happening in one week so we can model our week after it with the Sabbath Our week is a microcosm of creation. Anytime the Bible speaks of mysterious things it tends to dumb it down for us. Like with Jesus and all the parables, or with the symbolism of water representing Gods grace and fire his judgment, or with the spiritual armor taught by Paul. The Bible is full of this stuff. And it's very helpful unless you think its literal.
  7. We are on different levels here so thank you for the wonderful discussion. It has truly been my pleasure even though you didn't address the dilemma of Gen 2:4 but whatever:-)
  8. lol Just pray about it and get a Hebrew/ Greek Lexicon at a bookstore, get a Strongs concordance and a good study Bible not written in archaic language. And go study the scriptures for your self. I for one believe they aren't real 24 hour days because of Gen 2:4 but you know that's just me. Go check out what day means in Hebrew.
  9. hum - when somebody speaks of "making", I personally think of different things than opening up a process that makes it. If I undertand you right, you are telling us here that God would have had recourse to active creationism - you paraphrased it by a "poof" - only if he were less than all powerful. He would have chosen evolution otherwise, if I got the red highlighted phrase right. So now consider you're wrong and he actually made dog and wolf through a poof as you would put it. In this scenario, aren't you making the same exact thing you are professing not to do, which is accusing God of proceeding in a powerless way? And I think this is what Joe was referring to... Just my 2 cents, Thomas Yes, assuming I am wrong and assuming that God created things instantly like poof even when it clearly says the "earth gave forth" then you are right I would be accusing God of going about in a powerless way. The "poof" God seems like a very primitive God to me. I believe God is way smarter than that. lol Here's the hebrew word for "make" and what it encompasses. I should have said this a long time ago sorry. Taken from "let us make man in our image" Make=Asah (strongs 6213) means to work, to labor, to toil, to make, to create, to construct, to build, to accomplish, to acquire, to earn, to procure, to prepare, to offer, to sacrifice, to appoint, to constituent, to keep, to fulfill, to be made of, to be done, to be created, to be prepared, to happen, to be, to handle, to squeeze. The basic meaning of asah is do or make in a general sense. In Genesis bara (to create) and asah (to make) alternate. The word asah is used in scripture to describe God's creative activity. ---hum - when somebody speaks of "making", I personally think of different things than opening up a process that makes it.--- If you intended to write a letter and invented the computer program Microsoft Word, then downloaded it on your computer, then opened it up and wrote a letter on it and printed it out, would you say that Microsoft word wrote/made the letter or you? You would say that you wrote the letter, that you thought it up, that you deserve the credit for the creation of the letter. And you would say that You just wrote it by the process of using the program. The program didn't actually make it. The program didn't invent itself and type the letter itself. You invented the program and by the program you created something.
  10. I think there is no indication in Job or other scripture that the sons of God mentioned in Job were demons. "Sons of God" is a phrase for angels in general and since demons are fallen angels and satan was there then there's my an indication that other fallen angels were also there. lol (a lot of theres) And that Sons of God means angels fallen or otherwise. Job 1:6 Now it came to pass on the day when the sons of God came to present themselves before Jehovah, that Satan also came among them. Man is special! We are the whole reason why he made the universe in the first place! Anyway good day, it was a good conversation.
  11. ---This passage is thought by many to be a second account of creation, I don't really think that man was a separate creation so to speak either. Though Genesis certainty does give us two angles of the creation story. I think chapter 1 is a broad overview of creation and it presents the creation of man and women as a single act. Then in Gen 2:4b-24 the author zooms in and presents us with the details of day 6. The distinction of man and women are brought into sharp focus. Chapters one and two are not chronological , -chapters 2:4b-24 simply present in greater detail some of what Gen 1 merely summarizes. ---The word in this case does not have the article, I believe. Young's Literal Translation These are births of the heavens and of the earth in their being prepared, in the day of Jehovah God's making earth and heavens; (I have the New American Standard Bible) The Keyword Study Bible As you can see, lots of different translations, with a lot of them completely omitting the word day to avoid the confusion!, However the word day is indeed there. Here's Gen 2:4 in Hebrew with the word yowm in red. And it is the word yowm which can be literal or figurative. So we see that it's using the yowm day in both chapters. Yowm, (strongs 3117)a day, a number of days, some time, year, life (when in the plural); today; in the daytime, on the same day; at present, now. A point in time and a sphere of time are both expressed by yowm. It is the period of light that is not darkness. It can be 24 hours, time in general, a specific point in time, or a year. (Typed from my Hebrew lexicon) Yowmam ( strongs3118) it means by day, day and night always. It occurs 51 times and specifies that an activity happened while it was still light. And fact that Moses (the author) did not use the yowmam is evidence to me at least of an open Biblical possibility that the universe was not created in 7 literal earth days. I
  12. I don't really think that man was a separate creation so to speak. I'm speculating that perhaps these mighty Nephilim men who were completely void of morals were the "sons of God" because that phrase is used of demons (in Job) and mighty men (in Psalms) in the Bible. I speculate that if Adam and Eve are truly the first human beings in the truest sense of the word "human" because they are the first two to be given spirit. Then I would think these Nephilim, these "sons of God" kind of fit the part of all the other humans on the earth who do not possess a spirit. And it makes sense that you would destroy them all. Merely being an evolutionary by product. And it makes sense that these people would simply not exist not going to Heaven or Hell. With this view you can see that God did not make a mistake in creating these humans, the view that he had to "fix" his mistake is false. He was just trimming off the excess evolutionary unnecessary spiritless human by product so to speak.
  13. Jesus is God in the flesh, he was born of a virgin, His sacrifice nullified the Law, He literally rose from the dead after three days, and everything in the Bible is true because God is true. I have faith in all these things. What I don't have faith in is people. Very good people have misinterpreted scripture and doctrines out of ignorance before.(and hey maybe that's me) Most of Paul's letters to the churches were sent out to fix these many many misinterpretations by good people. So all I'm saying is I think that if God created everything by a planned process wouldn't that still qualify as Him making it? That's all I'm saying. Surely your turning of things upside down shall be esteemed as the potter's clay: for shall the work say of him that made it, He made me not?[I totally agree that God made me I am not saying that God didn't make me, He planned to make me before the Universe was here] or shall the thing framed say of him that framed it, He had no understanding?[i am definitely not accusing God of having no understanding, I am making the opposite argument I think "evolutionary creationism" speaks of a higher God, a way more awe inspiring God, truly an all knowing and all powerful God, than a God that would create things like poof there's a dog and poof there's a wolf]
  14. Let me clarify one more thing... if you are a Christian the Holy Spirit will move in you and you will want to be baptized. Every true Christian seeks to become baptized eventually. Your baptism is evidence to everyone that you belong to God. Get baptized. But don't force it. Pray about this. And keep reading you Bible. And never forget that the Holy Spirit is as close as your breath.
  15. It's a tradition which you should take part in when the Lord leads you to. But if you died today and were never baptized with water yet had a relationship with God the Father through Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit. Which you do. Then you would still go to Heaven. John the Baptist played it down when he said I baptize with water but one is coming greater than I that baptizes with fire.Speaking of Jesus who brings the Holy Spirit. It's important yes! But it isn't everything. It's a tradition yet traditions are good because they force you to physically act something out which solidifies in your mind what you believe. Its an outer deed that reflects an inward washing away of your sins and being raised up into a new clean (Holy) life. But believe me I've known lots of people that went through the motions and got pressured by their mothers to get baptized when they were twelve and grew up to be evil people. I'm sure everyone of the pharisees were baptized. So anyway just get baptized when ever you feel the quickening in your spirit to do so. Wait for the Holy Spirits' nudging. Wait until your serious about it.
  16. Also on a side note it's interesting to note that all those crazy ages in the old testament are either multiples of 5 of multiples of 5 plus 7. Perhaps these ages are based upon a ancient Sumerian counting system before the idea of zero being a number was established. Or maybe It's speaking of the house of noah the house of Adam lived on for these long years. Or maybe we really did live that long way back then.
  17. Yes i do believe in the Jesus of the Bible. I thank God every time I pray for what He went through out of his love for me. I also believe that the mystery in Ephesian 3:9 is the mystery of the gospel of grace through Jesus Christ. And I believe that since I started out as an idea of God's before the universe was made that my existence still qualifies as him "making" me. Even if he made me through a process over eons and eons. If it was his will then he still made me. Don't worry I'm not one of these guys that says Jesus got married and didn't really rise from the dead and yada yada yada. I'm not a Di Vinci code christian wanna-be. I believe in Jesus just like you. I also believe that Isaiah 9“Woe to those who quarrel with their Maker, those who are nothing but potsherds among the potsherds on the ground. Does the clay say to the potter, ‘What are you making?’ Does your work say, ‘The potter has no hands’? 10Woe to the one who says to a father, ‘What have you begotten?’ or to a mother, ‘What have you brought to birth?’ 11“This is what the Lord says— the Holy One of Israel, and its Maker: Concerning things to come, do you question me about my children, or give me orders about the work of my hands? 12It is I who made the earth and created mankind on it. My own hands stretched out the heavens; I marshaled their starry hosts. 13I will raise up Cyrusb in my righteousness: --- is telling his fellow Jews not to question God about how He goes about setting the course of their nation. Even if He wants to use a foreign Medo-Persian king named Cyrus to help their land be restored after the exile than He can. Because God made Israel. It's not speaking to Christians who are amazed at his process of creation. Well I'm just a Christian who wants to talk about the Bible with other Christians. And who isn't very tech savvy. I'm sorry for doing the thread thing wrong.
  18. Yup i agree there is no way to know for sure if God did it that way. By faith alone can we find Him.
  19. Good morning from east to west, let me ask you three questions: * I agree with you that "the earth gave forth" sounds like evolution... but did you notice that the wording in the Bible changes when it comes to the development of man? Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals,1 and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” Gen 1:26 bolded mine * do you believe that if God created man directly some thousand years ago (YEC view) or even more time ago (OEC view), he would have been in need of disguising himself so that nobody today would know? * what do you mean by this: is your point to distinguish between men and women? The women being the spirit filled and all the other children of God just dead? Or did you just want to avoid gender bias? Yes it says, "let us make man in our image". Well if God's ingenious and beautifully harmonious plan was that we would be created by a process that he set in motion and willed and orchestrated wouldn't that still count as Him making us? He still totally did make us. Besides he made us from dust right? Why would he make us from the same elements as the earth? Almost as if we came forth from the earth. See where I'm going with this? You can only come to the Father through Jesus by faith. You can't get there by proving him scientifically. So if there is some person who is trying to find out the meaning of it all by studying this reality and becoming a scientist that person will not succeed in finding God. If us creationist scientist could go back into the fossil record and say hey look this is where this animal was created and this animal too and all at the same depth 5000 years ago and there is no animal that is deeper down that looks similar to it. Then we could prove by science that God created us in seven 24 hour days and the whole world would believe in God based on that. And there would be no reason for faith or Jesus or love. However we do find more bones deeper down that look like funny looking horses and other stuff that doesn't exist today but used to and looks curiously similar to some of the animals we have today... basically God has keep the worldly scientist busy going about in circles through his process of evolution because those kinds of people will never except faith. Well so be it. He leaves them to fend for themselves digging through the dirt with a toothbrush and mans wisdom is futile because it can not explain the why. He disguised his truth from those who do not have an ear to hear the same way he disguised the truth of the Kingdom of Heaven in parables. Evolution is the perfect way to create us because it forces us to believe in God based on faith. Genesis 6:1When human beings began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, 2the sons of God saw that the daughters of humans were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose.3Then the Lord said, “My Spirit will not contend witha humans forever, for they are mortalb ; their days will be a hundred and twenty years.” 4The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown. 5The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. 6The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled. Why the distinction between Sons of God and daughters of humans? My theory (just a theory not a divine revelation I could be wrong about all of this okay) my theory is that Cain didn't marry his sister the theory goes that there were more people on the earth when Adam and Eve were around it's just that they weren't true humans in the sense that they couldn't communicate with God like Adam's offspring could because God didn't breath spirit into them. The other people on the Earth had soul and Body but no spirit. That's also why they were so quick to be animalistic and just take the human women (the humans with spirit) for themselves and that's why God destroyed them in the flood. To give the humans with spirit more of a chance. The nephilim comes from the hebrew verb naphal meaning "to fall" in general but is often associated with violence. It is also noted that they were "men of great stature" Emphasis should be placed upon the fact that they were men of violence who had no respect for other men. Why does God make this distinction in humans? Even giving a class of humans there own name "nephilim". I believe these are the other humans on the earth that also evolved but didn't possess a God given spirit like Adam's offspring.
  20. Nice Try Beloved And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. Genesis 1:2-2 But No Prize But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. John 14:26 For One Who Was There For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. Colossians 1:16-17 Testified Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. Exodus 20:8-11 And Those In The Know Believe Him Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. 1 Corinthians 12:3 "And the earth was formless, and void and darkness was over the surface of the deep"NASB The hebrew word for "formless" used here is "tohuw" which has no certain parallels in other languages so we must determine it's meaning entirely from Old Testament contexts. Isaiah 40:17 All the nations are as nothing [tohuw] before him, They are regarded by Him as less than nothing [tohuw] and meaningless[tohuw]. Job 26:7 He stretches out the north over empty space [tohuw] , and hangs the earth on nothing[tohuw]. This verse to me is describing unreality. And Job here is talking about outer space.
  21. hey what's up?:-) your first question: It does conflict if you interpret the day as a 24 hour day. Which is an understandable way of interpreting it because it says over and over again "and there was evening and morning a third day (yowm)". So I understand but then I read a few verses later in Genesis 2:4 it sums up what just happened by saying "This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day (yowm) that the Lord God made earth and heaven." NASB Here it says it all happened in one day now? So either the Bible conflicts itself or we are interpreting it wrong. I think (now I'm not claiming this to be some holy revelation this is just what I think) I think perhaps that the story was presented to humanity in the seven day format to provide closure for each segment of creation and to show that God is not chaotic and to create an example to us on how we should go about our week. But now that we are in the final hours and knowledge has greatly increased we understand the fine details on the way he created us. Question two: The dust to life verse. I love this verse. Think about it. Why would God need dust to form us? Why wouldn't he simply create us out of thin air instantly? It says he formed us out of dust. Forming something takes time. This is a beautiful verse you see we are truly made of dust so to speak. The elements that make up our body are the same elements that make up the earth-the dust. From dust we came and to dust we will return. By decomposing and becoming dirt. We came forth from the earth just as the plants and animals did in Genesis 1. He evolved us into being. ---Pantheism was everywhere when the creation story was first being told. If God would have been frank with us and explained evolution to us the way we understand it today the ancient people back then would have thought what? We share traits with apes? We have gills during an early stage as a fetus? Lets worship the apes! We are half ape and fish. They would have turned it into a pantheistic thing. So he disguised the truth from humanity like he always does until we are mature enough to handle it.
  22. This is the case for the belief that God made everything by way of an evolving process (which was his creative idea) to disguise himself from man a little bit so that we believe in Him by faith. I believe Jesus literally turned water into wine, I believe He is God incarnate. It amazes me how He spoke in constant parables. How, out of his love he mercifully hid the truth so that only those with an ear to hear could understand. Because if he spoke plainly and all the people heard him, and some of them still turned away after it was spoken plainly to them, then they would have been guilty of a far greater sin. A deliberate sin. He gave analogies to describe the truth so that the the people who weren't ready to handle it were only guilty of ignorance. Now with that said we have to understand that everything in the bible is TRUE. However when Jesus told us to be like doves he didn't mean for us to try to lay eggs right? So obviously there are some figurative truths and rhetorical devices in the bible like prophetic language, psalms, poems, similes, metaphors, anthropomorphism (the rocks cry out), as well as the passages that are meant to be understood literally (Jesus rose from the dead). We have to be adults about this and read the Bible according to context...duh we all know that right? :-) So with that said. I want to voice what I believe. And I'd like to hear feedback. And I'll probably debate. I've prayed about it for the last few years, and no one can type that Jesus Christ is Lord except by the Holy Spirit, So JESUS CHRIST IS LORD!... I hated evolution. I knew all the Christian arguments against it. But now I have to confess that us Christians have evolution all wrong. Here is a spiritual understanding of the creation story. Each day is an evolutionary milestone from the perspective of human beings. When you take a step back (way back)you see that what happens each day corresponds with the evolutionary sequence science claims today. 1 God made light ....................... big bang explosion of energy 2 Waters from waters.................. atmosphere. 3 Dry ground appears...................H2O oceans develop Vegetation photosynthetic algae sludge. 4 Stars, planets sun moon............Life is evolving according to the circadian rhythm for telling times, seasons, signs 5 living creatures in water..............horseshoe crabs and fish to amphibians to reptiles to dinosaurs to birds and then birds in sky 6 living creatures on earth............mammals man Obviously there are eons and eons in between the lines. Here's some helpful hints in Genesis which point to evolution. "And the earth gave forth" (It doesn't say God created it out of thin air even though of course he could have if he wanted to do it that way) "And the earth yielded...after their kind and after their kind." (Describing the passing down of genetic traits in a language that a man 15 thousand years ago could understand.) Pantheism was the belief structure of people everywhere when the story of creation was first being told and pantheism is what it is trying to expose as a false understanding. The word Spirit in Hebrew derives from the word breath. The breath of life that God breathed into Adam and Eve wasn't some kind of Frankenstein thing. It's describing the act of God giving two evolved homo sapiens spirits so that they could communicate with him. All the other evolved humans were simply hyper intelligent primates with a soul and body but no spirit. So in this sense Adam and Eve really are the first true humans like us today. That's why God makes the distinction between sons of God (spiritless humans) and human women (those with the spirit). The spiritless humans were evil so he wiped them out in the flood leaving only the people with the spirit. Oh and the mighty men of old, the giants, the nephilum it talks about -neanderthals. Anyways to sum this up, when it says we were made in his image, the Hebrew word for "image" is better reflected by the word "likeness." In other passages likeness and image are used interchangeably. God doesn't look like a primate like we do lol. It means just like how God is made up of Jesus, God the Father, and the Holy Spirit so we are made up of three parts. Body, soul and spirit. Our soul is a creative shadow of God the Father Our spirit is a creative shadow of the Holy Spirit Our body is a creative shadow of Jesus This is how we are made in "His image." Anyway doesn't this make more sense? If an all powerful and all knowing and all encompassing Creator were to create a reality with little self aware spirit creatures to talk to and to love wouldn't he do it by a structured system and not like some mere magician. God loves us so much more than we can fathom. PS. If you are a Christian please go buy a Hebrew and Greek lexicon so you can understand that Hebrew is a dynamic, spherical language. And our Greek based english is a static straight meaning language. Some things get misrepresented a little during the translation process.
