  1. I think it really comes down to a comparison of our own childhoods. I loved my parents and with most things I did them out of that love. But there were also times when I choose not do do something out of fear of the consequences. That is part of being human. Even as an adult I follow most laws out of something that is not fear (just not sure what the right word is) but there are certain laws that I follow out of fear of the punishment, speed limits being the one that comes to mind right off the bat.
  2. Then my first challenge to you would be to find even a single historian that states the New Testament was written in either Hebrew and Aramaic. Then if you have any luck in finding even one, I would ask you to find enough of them that you can show that "MOST" Bible scholars and historians say that the New Testament was not written in Greek. You might notice the title of your article, SPOKEN Languages..." Do you suppose there was a reason they made the differentiation between spoken and written? But in the end, you gave the best answer when you made this statement...go by what most Bible scholars and historians say. The answer is that the vast majority (which would equate to "most") Bible scholars and historians say the New Testament was written in Greek. Since you have stated that you will go by what most Bible scholars and historians, I assume you will soon acknowledge that the New Testament was written in Greek, as that is what virtually all of them say, not just most.
  3. hmmm...seems it might be a bit of both... The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the LORD your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life. But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him. And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people. A child should do things out of love, but the reality is that the fear of punishment also has to come into play. Anyone that suggest that a child would 100% of the time obey their parents without the fear of a punishment is too old and has forgotten their childhood.
  4. convenient if you spend your whole life at the same company. Less expensive, not at all. Typewriters still work yet you don't see many businesses still using them. This mentality is the the biggest obstacle I face at a company and the biggest hindrance to innovation and progress. Nothing worse than hearing "we have always done it that way" or "if it aint broke, don't fix it" coming out of the mouth of a person with any power in a company. And it is really not working all that well anymore. After of the debacle that company provided pensions have become this is the next shoe to drop. You have no idea what you are talking about. The average amount an employer pays per employee for health insurance is about $12,000 while the worker picks up another $4500. Seems you once said you live on less than $45,000 a year, so for you it would be a 25% pay raise. That is not an insignificant raise to anyone. That is because you lack the basic knowledge of how businesses operate. You clearly have always been on the worker-bee side and never the decision making. Most Fortune 500 companies would love nothing more than to get rid of this headache, it is the people too stuck on a 60 year old system that is keeping them from doing so.
  5. Wait, so you are telling me that this insurance company gave you the same policy for the same rate even though the company you worked for was no longer paying their share? That is very hard to believe. Here is a good article on the subject from the WSJ. http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB122887085038593345 Not many people are buying cars built 60 years ago. No one is watching TV on a set manufactured in the 1940s. Patients are not lining up to see a doctor who hasn't cracked a book since before the polio vaccine was discovered. Why, then, do millions of Americans get their health care through an employer-based system from the 1940s ... ... The system worked at first, but a lot has changed in 60 years. Back then, the average soldier returning from World War II took a job with a local company where he would work for decades until he got a gold watch at a big retirement party. Today, lifetime employment is dead. By 42, the average American will change jobs 11 times. ... Workers are the ones paying for this waste. The money that employers are spending to buy health care for their employees could otherwise go to workers in the form of higher wages, empowering individuals to make their own health-care choices. Oh, and I do know what I am talking about, this is what I do for a living.
  6. Very funny. You say your age group does this and that, and you want to dictate to companies and others who do not agree. Please, let me know what your age group is. I am in a profession which is of short supply, so companies do compete for people like me. I do choose a company based on both pay and benefits. If a company is not going to have group insurance, they better pay significantly higher, to cover health care, dental care, plus some more money to cover the added effort. Large company group health insurance is typically excellent, with low deductables. If a company doesn't offer what I am looking for, there are plenty of companies who are competing for people, who do. My age group would be the under 35 crowd, to not get to specific. You are very lucky in your career, as you have a job that is still in demand and does not have an surplus. But you are the exception and not the rule. I am not trying to dictate to anyone what they should do, I just don't see the business sense for most companies these days to offer health insurance, most of the reasons that companies started to in the first place are no longer valid. This is just my experiences from working with multiple large corporations. I think most would drop it now if they could get away with it, and within the next 20 years I think most will. I think the biggest reason will be the shorter time people spend at one company, the less time you spend with a company the bigger pain it is to have your healthcare tied to them. There is a coming time when jobs will be even harder to find than they are now. I know most of you wont read Future by Al Gore but maybe you will read The Coming Job War by Jim Clifton, who leans to the right, and see what he says is in store for the world.
  7. Isnt that sort of staking the deck? limiting how things can be refuted? Will watch the video again, didnt make it all the way through last time. Between the hour long video and the links it will be some time before this can be responded to. And before I respond to the rest I would like to point the fact that even if nobody here can "refute" your baby kraken it still does not make you right, it means that a group of people with zero astronomers and astrophysicists among the group cannot refute your positions. If you want to truly impress anyone, post this same thing on the astrophysics forum at physicsforums.com. If they cannot refute your position, then I will be impressed. 8. It is now a pride thing for him. He is too deep in to admit he was mistaken. He has totally ignored the fact that others have and will perform miracles, so using them as proof of one being the creator of the universe is a mistake.
  9. Of course that is not proof that Jesus is the Creator of The Universe. Do not think that Satan could walk on the water? Satan was able to duplicate some of the miracles that Moses preformed using the power of Satan. Is turning water to blood any less impressive than walking on water? We are told in 2 Thessalonians and in Revelation that the Anti-Christ will preform miracle like those that Jesus did. Those that need such proofs as you demand will be the people that will be deceived by the Anti-Christ. Will these miracles by the Anti-Christ be proof that he is the creator of the universe? Will you make the same argument for the anti-Christ? you are right, he didn't doubt that Jesus was standing on the water, but he did doubt Jesus' ability to make it so he could walk on the water. If this was proof that Jesus was the creator of the universe, why would he doubt that Jesus could do such a thing. Clearly there was no proof.
  10. well this has been fun, time to head off to sleep. I have faith I will wake up in the morning...
  11. proof removes doubt, you cannot have proof and doubt, that would be an oxymoron. you again are your arguments own worst enemy.
  12. If I were an employer, I would care about the well being of my employees. To me, that is a moral imperative. However providing for abortion is abhorant to me. How about you pay them their true worth and let them make their own decisions on health care? Why assume you can do a better job of picking an insurance policy for them?
  13. This group of words from you make no sense at all, what is it you are trying to say here. Also, you are wrong about the language of the NT... http://www.biblica.com/en-us/bible/bible-faqs/in-what-language-was-the-bible-first-written/ The New Testament, however, was written in Greek. This seems strange, since you might think it would be either Hebrew or Aramaic. However, Greek was the language of scholarship during the years of the composition of the New Testament from 50 to 100 AD. The fact is that many Jews could not even read Hebrew anymore, and this disturbed the Jewish leaders a lot! So, around 300 BC a translation of the Old Testament from Hebrew into Greek was undertaken, and it was completed around 200 BC. Gradually this Greek translation of the Old Testament, called the Septuagint, was widely accepted and was even used in many synagogues. It also became a wonderful missionary tool for the early Christians, for now the Greeks could read God's Word in their own tongue. it seems amazing to me that you are claiming that God can take a time period even in different languages, and inspire someone many years after the fact to record an infallible account. But in no wise can He inspire translators in 1600's to give us an infallible account of same time period, in a different language! truly amazed and that is amazed as confused not glorified amazed. and I guess by your standard of translations is when in scripture translation is giving example when Christ was on the cross was not inspired of God either then!!!! "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? for every website you reference to I can counter, and I also found it amazing that you believe your website can be truth, but no way can we have a true English bible. see post # 42 Do you at least now know what language the Gospels were written in?
  14. you mean like serpents that are really not serpents? nobody is talking about blind faith. I am saying that Jesus walking on the water was not as big a deal for the disciples as you make it out to be based on their actions following that event. More lies from the lost. I have said multiple times that faith takes over where evidence leave off. This is not a blind faith, it is a faith built on evidence. But with faith there is always a point where the evidence stops and faith takes over. Peter was this way, he had evidence but it still took faith to step out of the boat.
  15. But he didn't have proof that he could do it, all he had proof of was the Jesus could do it. So, without PROOF, just on FAITH Peter stepped out of the boat. why then did Judas betray Jesus? Why then did Peter deny Jesus 3 times? Why then did all but one disciple hide when Jesus was crucified? Why then did Thomas need more "proof" What sort of "proof" is so weak that it is forgotten in a moment? If you have PROOF, why would you need FAITH? If I tell you that I am going to bring you a cupcake you can have faith that I am going to do it, once I do it you now have proof and no longer need faith that I will. If you turn the key to start your car you have faith that it will actually start, once it starts you no longer need faith that it will. If you send a letter to your mother you can have faith it will make it to her. Once it does, you no longer need faith that it will. there is no room for faith once the proof takes over.
  16. For the joy that is seen in the face of a child being tickled! Another related question...why cant you tickle yourself?
  17. you trust your understanding, not God's word. you dont have faith, you have what you think is proof. 30 pieces of Silver is enough to overcome proof that Jesus was GOD? That is some very weak proof. It also shows the danger of having faith in your proof vice having faith in God. There is a lesson you need to learn here.
  18. No business could stay in business with the amount of fines they would have to pay. $2000 a year per employee? Really, you think that any company can offer its employees a years worth of health insurance for $2000? I don't think so I always assumed they made it that low so that they could get more companies to drop people and have those people sign up for ObamaCare.
  19. They shouldn't do it, but that does not mean they should not be free to do so. Companies do all sorts of things they should not do you pay them more and let them get their own insurance. NO reason for the company to be in the equation. A company is spending 7%-15% on healthcare coverage per employee. Why not give them the money and let them make their own choices. with a few exceptions companies have no problem bringing in quality employees. With unemployment/underemployment as high as it is there is no shortage of good qualified workers. I care about healthcare, I just don't want to be tied to an employer to have it. The biggest downfall of healthcare tired to employment it is keeps people tied to jobs they may not really want and keeps them from looking for something better. Out of the people from my MBA class almost none of us have employer healthcare coverage, we all opted out and made our own choices. I have been with this company for almost 4 years and that is longer than anyone I know. People are more mobile in jobs and living spaces. Employer provided healthcare is a dinosaur and needs to go the way of them
  20. The desire for "proof" when it comes to God and faith is an example of relying on one's own understand instead of trusting in God. Some people cannot let go of themselves and allow God to be in control, they have to work it all out for themselves in their heads. These are the people that you see on fire for the Lord one day and gone the next.
  21. Yes, they said that Jesus was the Son of God without proof, just like almost everyone on this forum, except for you it seems. I have no proof that Jesus is the Son of God, or God or that He died on the cross, was buried for 3 days and rose again. I have no proof of any of that yet I worship as my Lord and Savior. I truly pity you in that you cannot say this for yourself. I do hope your own understanding does not betray you one day and you walk away like so many others that have relied on themselves instead of relying on God. So, if this is the checkmate, and if the disciples had PROOF at this time, why did Judas later betray him? What sort of proof could it be that would allow Judas to be so easily taken away?
  22. why in the world would companies have a moral reason to provide health insurance? You do know that employer provided health insurance didn't come about till after WWII and was not done out of moral reasons but to attract talent in a time when there was a shortage of labor. the time for such an arrangement has long since passed
