  1. I think it is pretty clear he is a deserter at a minimum. He walked off his post leaving his gun and gear.
  2. They probably should anyway. Its high time the states stopped letting the federal government blackmail them out of their rights due to "public funding" In fact, New mexico should just tell the federal government to not only keep their money, but stop paying the feds taxes-I imagine once they do that they will have no problem being financially stable without the US governments assistance. In fact theyd likely do a better job as the federal government only knows how to make things worse. The mere fact they get back 2x the money they give the federal government I am not sure they would be all that well off if they followed your advice. There is a school of thought lately that the state governments are somehow more responsible and better managed. I would say there is zero empirical evidence to support this idea. Most states have a higher degree of cronyism than does the federal government.
  3. then the Federal Government should withhold all federal funds going to New Mexico. Which would really hurt that state as they receive more than 2 dollars back for every dollar paid by them in taxes. New Mexico has the highest ratio of money from the feds vs money paid to them.
  4. Well said, I agree it should not matter if we are doing our job as Christians. It might even backfire on the atheist, I cannot see too many people being drawn to that monstrosity.
  5. Do you not view putting Christian symbols on public property as pushing an agenda? Didn't Jesus give us an agenda to push at the end of Matthew?
  6. Something to consider about your comment. If we do live in a free society, why is it that every reference to God, be it the 10 Commandments, a picture of Jesus of a cross, bibles in school, prayer in public meetings being forced to cease, removed or taken down? I believe it is not a free society, but one guided by sin and rebellion against God. That is a bit of an over exaggeration, just yesterday the Supreme Court upheld the right to open a meeting in prayer. Many of the actions stopping people from doing things are over reactions from those in charge and are not following the law. The rest have been a battle that is for sure, but that is sort of what a free society is all about, everyone get to try and puch their agenda, not just the majority. I would agree about our society being one guided by sin and rebellion against God, but then I would say that has been true of every society down through the history of the earth, to include Moses and the tribes.
  7. This is the price you pay for living free society. As much as I disagree with their beliefs, I think they have the constitution on their side.
  8. The problem with the comment is that it is inaccurate. When Bush left office there were 285 abortions per live 1000 live births and 19.46 abortions per 1000 women of child bearing age. Either number were the lowest of his presidency. Since Obama took office those numbers have dropped every year and in 2012 there were 261 abortions per live 1000 live births and 16.56 abortions per 1000 women of child bearing age. I realize that none of this is due to the polices of Obama, but unless Dobson was complaining about Bush, he should not be doing so about Obama.
  9. But I do wonder how many of that 53% still vote almost exclusively one party or the other.
  10. It will never change under our current two party, winner take all system. Also, as long as television is the dominant media source those with the money will always have control. More money is spent on TV ads than any other thing in a campaign. Take away TVs dominance and then money becomes less important.
  11. Or maybe the climate is changing and this sort of thing will becomee the norm vice the exception
  12. So, these "sweeping cuts across the federal budget" not only do not impact the defense budget, they increase the defense budget. Because I guess outspending the next 15 countries in the world combined is not good enough? Out spending the combined budgets of 180 countries by almost 100% is not good enough? And this sounds promising?
  13. Sometimes "because I said so" is the right answer. Why did Abraham prepare to sacrifice Issac? Because God said so, that was good enough for Abraham, it should at times be good enough for children.
  14. Then maybe you can explain why all my children's workbooks have the words "Common Core" emblazoned all over them. Chloe, not sure who you quoted when saying there is no common core, my computer usually says a name unfortunately in this instance it does not. I would simply like to say to whomever you quoted, I thought there was no common core. You cannot say that there is no common core when there is common core emblazoned all over the books of school children. However, I would like to comment on the fact that common core is not so much about testing as it is making a one world government. There is no Common Core "curriculum". Common Core is a list of things that a child should know at the end of a certain grade. That is all that Common Core is. Each individual school district then decides how to achieve that list. How it is done, as in what curriculum to use and what lessons plans is different from one school district and even one school to another. If your local school is trying to make a one world government I would suggest at the next election you replace your school board members.
  15. ============================================================================ Thanks for resurrecting the thread Are you saying if you torture the data long enough it will confess to anything? Well in these specific cases, I didn't torture anything so that one's out. And most importantly, I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything. I just put it out there and leave it for each individual to make a call. You did not torture the numbers, but those that you got this from did.
  16. If Easter Eggs and bunnys are a problem for you then you should probably not include them in your Easter celebration. I do not find the need to choose between eggs and Jesus. Our church does a huge Easter egg hunt for children each year with 1000's of eggs filled with candy are hidden around the ground followed by cup cakes and the pastor reading the true Easter story. It is a "must destination" now for the children of the town and for some of them it might be their first or only chance to hear the true Easter story. It is an amazing evangelism tool.
  17. I would suggest that not enough time has gone by just yet, these things take time to work their way out.
  18. We don't live in a perfect world so some of us choose to focus on realty instead of fantasy.
  19. Why should their not be a common core? Why should states not be able to join forces and come up with a plan to try and improve upon that elephant in the room....our students being 36th in the world. Is that good enough for you? Why should states not be allowed to try and have some common standards so a student transfering from Mississippi to Wyoming will have the same basic math skills? But I do agree about the Dept of Ed. There is no value gained from it, thus it should go
  20. Far be it for me to rain on anyone's parade, but does anyone else find it a bit odd that this is from the editor of the "Oil and Gas Investments Bulletin"
  21. Go to the countries at the top of the student rankings and I bet their 3rd graders can fill out a an answer sheet. It is time we quit babying our students and got back to teaching them. This is not about teaching them standards of solving problems alone, if it were they would be problems that would be appropiate for their developmental stages. It is about conformity and teaching them to do as they are told and not question what they are being told to do. You have to pull the mask off of the problem to see the true adgenda being pushed. Yes, that is what common core is about. There is nothing in Common Core that has anything to do with doing as they are told or not questioning anything. People are fighting a strawman. The ironic part here is that half the complaints about Common Core is that in the math area kids have to explain why, not just solve the problem. They have to THINK and not just do like we had taught kids to do in math for the last few decades. At the same time common core is making kids think to much and then making them not think at all. That has to be hard to do. I think people need to find new sources of news and information.
  22. What an individual teacher or school districts chooses to use in order to meet the standards is in no way controlled or even tied to common core. That is an issue that those that belong to the local school district should address. If a teacher is trying to do the things you mentioned they are doing them with or without common core. Again, blaming common core is a silly as blaming Winchester when one of its guns is used to kill someone. What I want is a school system that is not 36th best in the world...
  23. I agree it is good to look for the highjackers, but to blame common core is akin to blaming the plane for being high jacked ETA...Common core deals with math and language arts at this time. There is no common core for history or social skills. Any changes to these areas is the result of the local school and has nothing to do with Common core.
  24. Here are some Language Arts standads for the 7th grade. Cite several pieces of textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text. Determine a theme or central idea of a text and analyze its development over the course of the text; provide an objective summary of the text. Analyze how particular elements of a story or drama interact (e.g., how setting shapes the characters or plot). Compare and contrast a fictional portrayal of a time, place, or character and a historical account of the same period as a means of understanding how authors of fiction use or alter history. By the end of the year, read and comprehend literature, including stories, dramas, and poems, in the grades 6-8 text complexity band proficiently, with scaffolding as needed at the high end of the range.
