sadly it sounds to me like you're focused more on homosexuality rather than the proper connotation of abomination, which was my point.
-
Definitely is when you don't see for yourself what the words in the origin language really connote. It's not about winning it's about telling the truth and seeing that a God who is love does not hate in the sense that you understand it, or are you looking for a reason to justify your hatred.
-
I'm talking about the God of the Bible not the god of your misunderstanding. 1 John 4:7-16 7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. 13 This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. 14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. 15 If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. 16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.

you continually strive about English words which is not how you properly exegete the Bible. http://religiondispatches.org/does-the-bible-really-call-homosexuality-an-abomination/

Our fallen nature was the source of our carnal nature. not something inanimate as you choose to believe.
-
because we are in a fallen state and a lot of our emotions stem from our carnal nature. Throughout God's word, he tells us not to hate, so if you think God gave you the ability to hate and then tells you not to hate, your God sounds a lot more human and contradictory than my God. Our problems stem from our self-centeredness and yes but self-centeredness can create a lot of chaos and rebellion in our lives. God condemns and punishes sin because it is not his doing it is our doing.
-
now you're headed in the right direction... Hatred does not describe our God.
-
I've already given one example and you rejected it I'm pretty sure giving you more would not change your mind like I said, linguistics is a difficult matter and to reconcile a source and destination language doesn't always work. Does the word 'all' in the Bible always mean Everything or everyone? What about Matthew 4:8?
-
not if it is improperly understood all it shows is the limitation of languages and how a source language does not always accurately reflect in a destination language. actually that's not factual at all and as a matter of fact many Bible translation committees have linguists AND translators.
-
address the issue of hate not necessarily the scripture that was quoted. Sadly there's a lot of scripture that uses the word hate in English. The Hebrew word śânê in my opinion and the opinion of many Hebrew Scholars is more properly translated as 'opposes'. translators and linguists are not the same thing see 2
-
it addressed hate I don't know where you got Proverbs 6 from? translated what? that you would have to ask a linguist about. again, has what as saying hate?

Attitudes are born out in actions. 1 John 2:9-11 Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness. Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble. But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness. They do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded them. The issue here is not God, the issue here is how people do not understand God and attributing human emotions to him. Does the bible say that 'God hated sin so much He sent his only begotten son', or does the Bible say 'for God so LOVED the world that He Sent His only begotten son'? God's feelings toward sin and sexual immorality is not the issue here, the issue is how people misunderstand what the word of God actually says.
-
You are absolutely right... God gives us free will. Of course those who exercise it and decide to NOT accept Jesus aren't going to be very happy about making the wrong choice, are they?
-
The fact that they can properly Define exegesis on their site doesn't mean that they actually do it. I encourage you to take their definition and use it on your own to study this issue and see exactly what the Bible does say in the original Hebrew and how it is conveyed in the New Testament.

Sexual immorality is different from fornication or adultery and the fact that many don't understand what the Greek word porneia means is not surprising. the problem of properly Understanding God's intent has been around ever since Moses instituted the laws. Jesus had to address it in his day and it continues to be something that has to be addressed in our day. http://static.westside.webfactional.com/abundantLife/092002/3.html

Sorry but your perception is much different than reality and many biblical Scholars disagree with what it teaches. It may be good for Christianity 101 but when it gets down to actually exegeting the word of God, it falls short.

Matthew 5:43-48 (NET Bible) Love for Enemies 43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor’ and ‘hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, love your enemy and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may be like your Father in heaven, since he causes the sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Even the tax collectors do the same, don’t they? 47 And if you only greet your brothers, what more do you do? Even the Gentiles do the same, don’t they? 48 So then, be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

GE... I think it is really important to understand what the Bible means when it says sexual immorality because fornication is not considered sexual immorality as it is already dealt with on its own. Fornication is indeed wrong as is adultery but the Bible doesn't say that fornication or adultery is a valid reason to divorce someone. Just as Jesus said the only valid reason is 'sexual immorality', which for all intents and purposes is depicted in Leviticus 18.

Indeed, as I just pointed out hate came in after the fall and is evidenced by the relationship between Cain and Abel. Before sin came into our lives we were as God created us and he did not create us with the negative attributes we received after the fall. I recognize that there were a lot of barbaric practices throughout the Old Testament but as we are no longer in the Old Testament but under the New Covenant and that our mandate is to love one another as God loved us and he should not be allowed to enter in just as Jesus taught in the Gospels.
-
First of all God commands us to love not to hate and I wouldn't go as far as to say that he created us with the capacity to both love and hate. Our fallen nature is the reason why we hate and was evidenced in the very beginning between Cain and Abel. Secondly I would find a better reference site than gotquestions.org if I were you. It is a notoriously biased RT site. God commands us not to hate then obviously he is not going to contradict himself by hating. Please see my last response on this thread to Davida.

The operative word here would be seems and that is because of the English translation you're quoting. I suggest you study the Hebrew and find out exactly what the word conveys. http://www.biblicalhebrew.com/nt/lovehate.htm If 1 John 4:8 is true then God cannot hate because love cannot hate.
-
God doesn't hate anything including divorce. Hate is a human emotion and as God is impassible he doesn't have those type of emotions. Matthew 19:7-9 NET They said to him, “Why then did Moses command us to give a certificate of dismissal and to divorce her?” Jesus said to them, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because of your hard hearts, but from the beginning it was not this way. Now I say to you that whoever divorces his wife, except for immorality, and marries another commits adultery.” The following is about the best book I've ever read on the subject; https://www.amazon.ca/Marriage-Covenant-Biblical-Divorce-Remarriage/dp/1930987080

aint it funny when christians do this
StanJ replied to creativemechanic's topic in General Discussion
Mine was about four or five months but sadly it only lasted 23 years and then she walked out. Hindsight does not give me any better perspective on whether or not we should have waited longer and with 4 wonderful kids as a result of our marriage, I can't really say it was a mistake at that point. Being self-absorbed is a problem with many people, regardless of whether they are a Christian or not. She was always looking for perfection in our relationship and just couldn't handle the fact that we are imperfect human beings. -
that's right, but not because they sinned but because they didn't accept Jesus as their savior.

You're the one putting down the Pharisees by saying they weren't believers when Jesus actually acknowledged they were. They believed in the God of the Old Testament and they believed in the Old Covenant laws so at that time that made them a believer. Their sin was not accepting Jesus as the promised savior of Israel. If you're going to act and speak like the Pharisees did in the New Testament then expect to be called on it, but notice unlike you are doing to them, I'm not calling you an unbeliever. I'm sure you'll get banned soon enough on this thread as well.
