Another good illustration. My favorite tree on my parents’ property is just such a tree. It is a beautiful Jackpine that has grown by itself near the top of one of their fields. It’s likely between 60 and 80 years old.

Excellent illustration. We often like to think that what has happened in history would never be repeated, that we would act differently than people in times past. We should not be so naive.

Roman Catholic Church and the Pope being unpopular
Acadia replied to Pure Waters's topic in General Discussion
There have been many insightful responses on this issue in this thread already. As others have said, we most definitely should not “despise” or “hate” any person or group of people (our battle is not against “flesh and blood”, it’s a spiritual one). We are, however, to speak the truth, in love. It is not loving to withhold the truth. The Catholic Church, in its official doctrines and traditions, teaches “another Gospel”. To be saved according to Catholic teaching, one must go through many steps throughout one’s life and even then one cannot ever be sure of salvation. Scripture, by contrast, assures us that we can know we are saved. (1 John 5:13) I encourage you to do some careful research into Catholicism, if you haven’t already. On the other side of this issue is the “Ecumenical Movement”. There may indeed be many who speak up regarding the major issues with Catholicism, unfortunately, however, there are also many Protestants and Evangelicals joining with the Pope and the Catholic Church today. This is an ongoing movement that has become increasingly popular over the years. You may want to do some research into this topic as well. God bless! -

“The Passion Translation”: You Are Jesus Christ’s Equal
Acadia replied to Acadia's topic in General Discussion
After reading everything you wrote, (and I did read it all), I would ask you why it is that you believe that a “translation” of Scripture which has Jesus Himself saying we are His equal is NOT “subversive to genuine Christianity”? In what way is it ever okay to claim equality with God? And why should we NOT warn brothers and sisters in Christ about this false doctrine? (Especially when it has now been inserted in what is purported to be God’s inspired word) Should we just stay silent because there are “bigger problems” out there? I encourage you to read through this thread and do some careful research into what or who is really behind this “translation.”- 78 replies

“The Passion Translation”: You Are Jesus Christ’s Equal
Acadia replied to Acadia's topic in General Discussion
And here is the video from Sid Roth's It's Supernatural! program where Brian Simmons discusses his visit to Heaven's library, his commissioning by Jesus to create The Passion Translation and also an ultimatum (though he doesn't call it that of course) he gave God that if God didn't move among the people of the Central American tribe Simmons and his wife were missionaries to, they way he expected God to move, that he would go back to the United States and expose God as a fraud. "And here's the crazy prayer. I said 'Lord, if You don't come and move in this village, move in my heart and move in the hearts of these tribal people that have never heard, uh, understood the Gospel...if You don't move in power, I'm gonna go back and tell every supporter, every prayer partner, every church we've ministered in, that You weren't big enough to tackle the Paya-Kuna people and to bring them to know You through Jesus Christ, through the Holy Spirit.' Sid Roth then asks: "Did you mean that?" Brian Simmons answers: "I meant it with all my heart." This ultimatum is reminiscent of the similar ultimatum that Rodney Howard Browne gave God: "Either You come down here and touch me or I am going to come up there and touch You." Both of these ultimatums resulted in the same "manifestations", commonly referred to in Charismatic and Pentecostal churches as being "slain in the Spirit." People would just fall over and shake uncontrollably under some kind of "force" when the "anointed" individual (like Howard Browne or Simmons simply walked by or touched them). Just as it occurred during the "Toronto Blessing", the "Brownsville Revival" and the "Lakeland Revival" and these "manifestations" continue in churches around the world to this day. There is nothing at all Biblical about them, but there are indeed corresponding manifestations in Eastern religions (with the Kundalini awakening for example). So, anyone who reads and trusts this "Translation" absolutely must be aware of where it comes from. I firmly believe it is not of God.- 78 replies

“The Passion Translation”: You Are Jesus Christ’s Equal
Acadia replied to Acadia's topic in General Discussion
Here are the screenshots I tried to attach in the OP: In reading some of what the Banovs have posted to their Facebook page, one can see how far they take The Passion Translation's claim of equality with Jesus Christ. Actually, their words indicate that we are not simply equal with Christ, we in fact have power over Him. Note, phrases such as: "THIS is what your beloved Bridegroom say to you. He is undone by your love, by your gaze." "Stealing God's heart and owning it, this is righteous thievery"- 78 replies

Sure. Sorry for any confusion, Winnie Banov is the wife of Georgian Banov. They are NAR leaders, considered “apostles” who have a “supernatural school of ministry”, (GCSSM - Global Celebration School of Supernatural Ministry) and travel around the world to promote their “ministry” and teachings. They are closely associated with well know NAR leaders such as Brian Simmons, Heidi Baker, Todd White, Rick Pino etc. I tried to include screenshots from their Facebook page in the OP, (in regard to their use of The Passion Translation) but for some reason I am unable to do so from my phone. I may get on the computer tomorrow and try to attach them.- 78 replies

“The Passion Translation”: You Are Jesus Christ’s Equal
Acadia replied to Acadia's topic in General Discussion
This “translation” has gained increasing popularity and you can be absolutely sure that has nothing to do with me. I will speak out against The Passion Translation at every opportunity. To anyone who actually cares to pay attention, it is more that clear why I started this thread, and you had better believe it was NOT to support this heretical work that masquerades as the word of God. If the claim of equality with Jesus Christ wasn’t enough to show you why this “translation” should be avoided, I doubt anything else I share will convince you. So, do with that what you will, that is your choice and you are responsible for it.- 78 replies

“The Passion Translation”: You Are Jesus Christ’s Equal
Acadia replied to Acadia's topic in General Discussion
Indeed. False teaching is a judgement on people as well, just as the Scripture you shared says, for not “believing” or loving the truth. And such could be any of us if we do not ourselves earnestly desire to know and love the truth and then, once we do know it, earnestly contend for it. What really confuses me is when people who read their Bibles every single day still believe these things. I’ve talked with family members who do so, even though I know they definetly read the word of God. I had a conversation awhile back with a family member who considers Rodney Howard Browne (“the Holy Ghost bartender”) to be “very anointed of God”. Even though I laid out my concerns respectfully and Biblically, they basically accused me of making fun of “a man of God.” I honestly don’t know how to reach my family and friends who believe the deception of the NAR, especially once they’ve had some kind of “experience” or “encounter”.- 78 replies

“The Passion Translation”: You Are Jesus Christ’s Equal
Acadia replied to Acadia's topic in General Discussion
Exactly. Either these stories were made up by him (or others) or there is some potentially demonic deception going on. Either way it is deception. One of the most troubling aspects of this, however, is that now he has created something that is supposedly the actual word of God (a newer, better “translation”). All of these books and online teachings and so forth are bad enough, but now he’s crossed the line over into dealing with God’s word. Similarly to the so called “prophets” of the NAR who claim to be hearing the latest “now word” from God.- 78 replies

It’s also interesting to note that the FAQ page on the official website for The Passion Translation says this: “I’ve heard that Brian Simmons is part of something called the NAR. Is that true?“ “The New Apostolic Reformation, commonly known as NAR, is a name used by certain Internet apologists and critics to identify leaders mostly in the Pentecostal and charismatic traditions who affirm (or seem to affirm in part or full) a group of beliefs the critics oppose. Brian Simmons has been unfairly identified with this non-movement because of his association with some of these leaders and affinity with Pentecostalism. Further, such critics have falsely accused Simmons of writing The Passion Translation as a stealth maneuver in support of the non-movement’s agenda and to bolster it theologically through translation renderings. Neither of these accusations are fair or accurate. Although he writes at times for the Pentecostal reader and worshiper, he affirms historic Christian orthodoxy and stands within the broad evangelical theological tradition.” “Simmons undertook this translation project because he felt a calling from God, and because he has always wanted to bring people into a greater understanding of the wealth and treasure contained in the Bible.” Notice how the NAR is referred to as a “non-movement” and that it is the “internet apologists and critics” who have falsely accused Simmons of being involved in the NAR. This is a common tactic used by these New Apostolic leaders to discredit anyone who questions their teachings. Basically they diminish these Christians and their valid concerns by implying that these Christians are just unintelligent individuals, who maybe still live in their parents basement and do all of their research on google. (Hence the keyword “internet” placed before “apologist” and “critic.”) And concerning that last paragraph regarding Simmons’ intentions and purposes in “undertaking” this “translation”, one has only to do some careful research to understand that this “calling from God” that he “felt” was actually a trip to Heaven’s library where he claims to have met with Jesus and then a subsequent visitation from Jesus in his home. (And this in his own words).- 78 replies

“The Passion Translation”: You Are Jesus Christ’s Equal
Acadia replied to Acadia's topic in General Discussion
Yes. I have watched that entire interview. I would absolutely warn anyone not to trust Sid Roth or any of his guests, no matter how sincere they seem or are. Roth’s Its Supernatural program is all about “making merchandise“ of people by selling “anointed” materials and promises of “breakthrough”, “healings” and “impartations”, claiming these are of the true Holy Spirit. Like Simon the Sorcerer, they attempt to buy the gifts of God.- 78 replies

“The Passion Translation”: You Are Jesus Christ’s Equal
Acadia replied to Acadia's topic in General Discussion
I have to disagree with you. It absolutely matters what they call it. “The Passion Translation” is indeed used and promoted as an actual “translation” and as such, it has indeed led many astray. On the official website for the TPT, they have a FAQ page, you may want to go read through those questions and answers to learn more about how they are defending this as an actual translation. Here are a few examples: 1. The website encourages the reading of The Passion Translation from the pulpit: “What makes The Passion Translation good for use from the pulpit?” “The Passion Translation has been crafted with modern English readers and listeners in mind, which is why it is ideal for modern English churches. The cadence and word choices, sentence structure and emotive language all lend a hand in helping readers easily proclaim passages, pastors clearly communicate God’s Word, and listeners understand the specific message God wants them to hear. Whatever your role in the church today, The Passion Translation will help your messages come alive with the fiery passion of God and help your listeners encounter the heart of God.” 2. The website specifically emphasizes that The Passion Translation is NOT a paraphrase. Why is The Passion Translation described as a “translation” rather than a “paraphrase”? “There is often some confusion in the Christian community when it comes to various versions of the Bible, particularly the differences between “translation” and “paraphrase.” “A paraphrase version of the Bible utilizes an existing English-language translation as its base text. It paraphrases one version into more contemporary language. For instance, in 1971 the creator of The Living Bible paraphrased the existing American Standard Versionof 1901 to create a new English-language Bible version.” “A translation, however, uses the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek manuscripts as the base text for a new version of the Bible. It translates these original languages into a modern language. For example, the translators of the New International Version in 1978 worked off the original ancient-language manuscripts to produce a new English Bible by translating those ancient languages into the modern language.” “Similar to such functional or dynamic equivalent translations as the New International Version and the New Living Translation Bible versions, The Passion Translation is a new version of God’s Word that is considered a translation because it uses the Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek manuscripts to translate the essential message of the Scriptures into contemporary English.” 3. The website promotes The Passion Translation as an excellent “translation” for use in “serious study.” “Is the TPT consideees a good translation for serious study?” “The Passion Translation is an excellent translation you can use as your primary text to seriously study God’s Word because it combines the best aspects of what is called formal and functional equivalence Bibles. It is a balanced translation that tries to hold both the Word’s literal meaning and original message in proper tension, resulting in an entirely new, fresh, fiery translation of God’s Word. Furthermore, this is the first modern English translation to use Aramaic, the language of Jesus and the disciples, as a lens through which to view God’s original Word to us, a word of truth and love.” “This translation philosophy will benefit your serious study of Scripture in several ways.” “The text was interpreted from the original language, carrying its original meaning and giving you an accurate, reliable expression of God’s original message.” “The meaning of a passage takes priority over the form of the original words, so that every English speaker can encounter the heart of God through His Word in a way that’s natural and readable.” “This translation keeps the Bible in step with changes in modern English, helping you clearly understand God’s original message and how it applies to your life in the twenty-first century.” ”This translation reclaims lost Aramaic texts, bringing the full texture of God’s Word to the surface, and helping you recapture the original essence of the teachings of Jesus and His disciples. ”This version taps into the love language of God, letting the words of Scripture go through the human soul, past the defenses of our mind, and into our spirit. Countless people have told us how The Passion Translation has helped them freshly discover intimacy with Christ in their journey through Scripture, and that it has rapidly become their favorite translation of choice for Bible study. We are thrilled to offer this accurate, faithful, clear, and readable translation for your serious study of God’s Word, and look forward to hearing how it helps you encounter the heart of God anew.” Notice also all of the extreme claims made about this “translation”. According to the website, it is even a cut above any other translation ever produced. In reality, The Passion Translation shouldn’t even be called a paraphrase. It shouldn’t be used at all.- 78 replies
