  1. Why? It is not that God was in a hurry to get things over and done with. With God there is no time, so no need to rush.
  2. This testimony is from a man in our church well known to us all. His medical episode made the local newspaper. He was dead for over half-an-hour and God raised him up and brought him back to life without intellectual impairment.
  3. You are in denial of the many true experiences that people have in operation theatres and in car crashes and the like. People who are unconscious with their eyes closed do not see and hear what is going on around them - and certainly not from a high vantage point. A brother in the Lord was dead for half-an-hour before the cardiac doctors kicked started his heart again. He received an amazing miracle and returned to life without any brain damage from oxygen deprivation. Truly miraculous. People do die for a short time and return. I suppose because it is not their time by God's reckoning. But that is not in conflict with Hebrews 9:27 which is about the final breath and no returns. Luke 7:11 Soon afterward he went to a city called Na′in, and his disciples and a great crowd went with him. 12 As he drew near to the gate of the city, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and a large crowd from the city was with her. 13 And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.” 14 And he came and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And he said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.” 15 And the dead man sat up, and began to speak. And he gave him to his mother. 16 Fear seized them all; and they glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has arisen among us!” and “God has visited his people!” 17 And this report concerning him spread through the whole of Judea and all the surrounding country.
  4. We are not living in the times of the NT - we are living now here in our own times. You need to open your eyes and see what people professing to be born again Christians end up doing. Many leave their father and reside with the swine. Get out into the real world.
  5. Opinion opinion opinion The truth of the matter is that Christians of all walks do throw in the towel. God is ever faithful and desires that all come to salvation, but sheep do wander and stray out of the fold. some may return, but many do not.
  6. yes it is a free gift, one to be treasured. But unfortunately some peoples squander their gifts, and put them back on the shelf or in a box. Disciples really do quench the Spirit and really do let their lamps run empty.
  7. Hhhhmmmm not convinced. There are accounts where people in out of body episodes have seen what was going on and when regaining consciousness can tell in detail what was happening around them while they were dead. That ain't a hallucination.
  8. Hello anybody out there ?? OK our soul cannot just be our physical air-breathing bodies for there are far too many scriptures concerning spirit and soul and bodies and afterlife, etc. What about after death or near death experiences when people actually die for a short while and can see their own body from afar, or allegedly have visions (many and varied) and then wham - back into their bodies and the real world. Does any of this tell us something about soul and spirit - our consciousness which can separate from our bodies.
  9. WHAT IS A SOUL? can we get clues from god's creation? from husks to shells to kernels - the inner fruit
  10. I have come into this thread very very late - page 69 wow - OK our soul cannot just be our physical air-breathing bodies for there are far too many scriptures concerning spirit and soul and bodies and afterlife, etc. What about after death or near death experiences when people actually die for a short while and can see their own body from afar, or allegedly have visions (many and varied) and then wham - back into their bodies and the real world. Does any of this tell us something about soul and spirit - our consciousness. Interesting how scripture always refers to the heart as the seat of inner thoughts and desires. 19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, fornication, theft, false witness, slander. Matthew 15: 23 Keep your heart with all vigilance; for from it flow the springs of life. Proverbs 4:
  11. Well that is your opinion. And how wrong can a person be? Jesus is explaining the need for water baptism by full immersion - death, burial and resurrection - later upheld in action and doctrinally explained throughout Acts and the epistles. There are two required baptisms for the born new again disciple to enter the kingdom of God - water and Spirit.

  15. Found it I think quite by accident; was reading up on another theme and lo behold what should be in that chapter ... Revelation 14: 9 And another angel, a third, followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If any one worships the beast and its image, and receives a mark on his forehead or on his hand, 10 he also shall drink the wine of God’s wrath, poured unmixed into the cup of his anger, and he shall be tormented with fire and sulphur in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. 11 And the smoke of their torment goes up for ever and ever; and they have no rest, day or night, these worshippers of the beast and its image, and whoever receives the mark of its name.” (RSV)
  16. Discernment by itself is a human acquired skill usually obtained through life experience and learning. >> comprehension, wisdom, foresight, intelligence, sagacity, acumen, penetration of intellect ... discerning of spirits is the work of the Holy Spirit - the spirit of truth - within a disciple that can be utilised through prayer (and sometimes revelation) that doctrine(s) presented by other people are not true. It is the ability by the Spirit to test or to prove that teachings and doctrines are true. 1Thess 5:19 Quench not the Spirit. 20 Despise not prophesyings. 21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. 22 Abstain from all appearance of evil. Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
  17. I believe you have the wrong idea as to what scripture states - there is no gift of 'discernment' the gift listed in 1Corinthians 12:10 is that of "discerning of spirits" 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. (NENT) and to another workings of powers; and to another prophecy; and to another discernings of spirits: to another kinds of tongues; and to another interpretation of tongues; (Weymouth) to another the exercise of miraculous powers; to another the gift of prophecy; to another the power of discriminating between prophetic utterances; to another varieties of the gift of 'tongues;' to another the interpretation of tongues. (KJV) To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another diverse kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
  18. Actually not all demons are bad - remember this guy - he was a nice devil and did good, a bit like Caspar the friendly ghost there is a TV show on the Disney channel (where else) "Hellstrom" that has good demons that rebelled against satan and now help humans. Ohhh ain't that sweet.
  19. Matthew 13:24 He put another parable before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field, Mat 13:25 but while his men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went away. Mat 13:26 So when the plants came up and bore grain, then the tares appeared also.
  20. yes I too need to have some thought about body and soul - spirit I understand and that is given by God to all living things in creation and returns unto God when living things die. God knows every ant that we step on Back to scripture and reading up on words Hhhhmmm some interesting points of speculation to ponder here. But it is all a mystery mostly. For now we see in a mirror darkly [in obscurity], but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known. - 1Cor 13:12 "Who shall be punished with everlasting [perpetual] destruction [to destroy] from the presence of the Lord, ..." - maybe this is referring to destruction of body and soul as truly a second death (the first being physical death of a body but not death of the soul). Forever nothing or forever castaway from the presence of God trapped in a dark abyss with demons ?? All I know is that I do not want this for myself nor for other people. It is too gruesome an alternative to contemplate.
  21. But scripture does use terms such as 'eternal' and 'everlasting' punishment - so why would scripture not be true to its own wording? If souls or bodies are to vapourised in brimstone then why not say so? Afterall scripture needs to be "truthful" so that doctrine is true. As to the lake of fire I once had a terrifying vision of this many years ago and I fell backwards off my chair.
  22. Thankyou I appreciate your thoughts on this. But as for the lake of fire that is not annihilation of the soul. People will still be conscious and will suffer pain and sorrow for an eternity. Isaiah 66:24 “And they shall go forth and look on the dead bodies of the men that have rebelled against me; for their worm shall not die, their fire shall not be quenched, and they shall be an abhorrence to all flesh.” [cited by Jesus again Mark 9:48) 2Thess 1:9 They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might, Even those that experience the resurrection unto condemnation retain a permanent ongoing body of sorts that can experience pain and anguish.
  23. OK if our soul is our living body (our entity) then why does God refer to both body and soul being destroyed. Revelation 20:4 Then I saw thrones, and seated on them were those to whom judgment was committed. Also I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their testimony to Jesus and for the word of God, and who had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life, and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5 The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended. This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy is he who shares in the first resurrection! Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and they shall reign with him a thousand years. Revelation 20:11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who sat upon it; from his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Also another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, by what they had done. 13 And the sea gave up the dead in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead in them, and all were judged by what they had done. 14 Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire; 15 and if any one’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. What exactly gets resurrected up for this judgement - our bodies? our souls? Both? How does this work? --- no pressure
  24. Good points presented - so a living soul is our body and consciousness ?? Now in Mathew chapter 10 Jesus says the following - 26 “So have no fear of them; for nothing is covered that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. 27 What I tell you in the dark, utter in the light; and what you hear whispered, proclaim upon the housetops. 28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in Gehenna. so is Jesus differentiating between soul and body - between spirit and flesh ??? any ideas about this please.
