Have any of you ever seen a look of triumph in your 13 yo child's eyes, exulting over bloodying your nose?
Or took the other kids, put them in the car, and driven off to seek a safe place because that same 13 yo chased a younger sibling out of the house with a butcher knife?
Or begged and pleaded with the police to press charges against that same child at 16 for having kicked a younger sibling into a wooden bed post, only to have the police blow it off as 'kids will be kids' and 'an over-reacting mom' and NOTHING be done?
I can't tell you the heartbreak and frustration I've gone through with this particular child - yes, biological child - heartbreak at the glee with which the child terrorized the other kids, and frustration at clueless, do-nothing police.
I sympathize with the mom who sent the boy back to Russia. I can't say I wouldn't have been tempted to do the same. Did she do the right thing? No, of course not. But we don't know the whole story yet. Perhaps she had the same sort of story as mine, of reaching out to proper authorities for help and not getting real, effective help in dealing with an incorrigible child. None of us know yet if she tried proper channels first. So can we reserve judgment till the facts are known?
