  1. Like it or not obesity IS a problem amongst the America population. As others have posted, we are NOT talking about people with medical issues that prevent them from losing weight. A few people have said how someone who makes a statement like why do people let themselves be overweight obviously has never struggled with their weight. Guess what? That's not true. I've struggled with my weight, because I am LAZY. I'm probably at least 10-15+ lbs overweight. <---- LAZINESSS (I admit it) So many people are in denial about being lazy, or having a lack of self-control. NH_Marine15 was not, I'm sure, referring to people who have medical conditions. Yes, we need to be sensitive to people's weight issues, and we can't assume every person overweight lacks self-control, they could have a medical issue. NH_Marine15 was NOT personally attacking anyone here. I also agree with what RustyAngel said. I DO have a problem with people (preachers, and others) who point the finger and complain about people smoking, drinking, drugs, etc aren't good testimonies. Because those things aren't, but neither is having a lack of self-control in any area.
  2. there are many ways to celebrate your family. Holidays, birthdays, etc, as already mentioned. But, also the day to day things you can do to celebrate your family. Doing things for your mom, or dad without being asked, or helping your brother or sister out. Helping your wife out with household chores to surprise her, or wives could do something sweet for their husbands. Even doing things for your kids. It doesn't just have to be on holidays or birthdays. I know it's always been such a blessing to me to have someone (ESPECIALLY in my family) do or say something nice for me, without me asking them.
  3. There are definitely alot of overweight people who have medical conditions that explain why they are overweight. I would not say that most overweight people are that way because of medical problems, though. I think it has alot to do with lack of excercise, and improper nutrition. I don't eat very much either, but somehow... I still have those pounds that creep up on me. Because my computer or tv is far more entertaining than going for a walk, or jog, or going for a bike ride, etc. Some people say they don't have time for excercise, but that is pretty much impossible. People find time for movies, tv, computer, reading, etc. I know this is going to step on some people's toes, but it is laziness to some degree. I'm not saying people have to be stick thin, but eating properly and excercising moderately WILL make you healthier. Also, as I mentioned before, I'm not including people who have a medical condition in this either, that is a legit reason, and usually can't be helped. I know there has been a topic on this before that got shut down, so I'm gonna stop here.
  4. My husband *a musician* says it means He would die for her, and die to himself for her. He would die to everything else for her, and give up what he wants.. *shrugs* I agree with lauren.. sometimes lyrics just don't make sense. I'm not getting what my husband thinks it means out of the song... but... maybe he's more in touch with that stuff than I am.. lol
  5. I'm not going to tell you what you should do first, but pray, ask God what you should do. If you have a desire for Medical school, and the mission field that is wonderful. The others are right, having a profession such as medical (especially medical) could be a very good asset to your mission work. May God Bless you!
  6. I'm not sure exactly what you want to know. It's a love song. I've always liked this song. Is it an okay song? I'm not seeing anything wrong with the song.
  7. we left the questions in the bag from prior weeks. It usually took at least 4-6 weeks to go through all the questions. We didn't add every week. Basically what was in the bag was there until all the questions had been read. We did that several different times throughout the year. The kids really liked it, and it was also really cool to get to hear what others in class were asking. I wanted to mention something really quick, that I forgot to mention before. All the other teen sunday school/bible studies I had gone to before usually used a "book" a teen study guide of some sort, and we spent little time in our bibles. I'm not against using supplements, I just don't care personally for using them as the sole resource. Alot of those books have errors in them, and can be confusing, especially for young believers in your class. I really liked the Teen Bible study I went to because I finally found a place where God's WORD was the only supplement being used, and I feel it is FAR more effective than using a cute book to try to attract teens to read. The goal of the Bible study is to help teens to grow in the Lord, and enjoy being in God's Word, showing them things they never saw, or knew before.
  8. When I was in high school, I ran into the most AWESOME Bible study/sunday school class. It was taught by a guy and his wife. They were an older couple but they rocked! As far as participation, we were encouraged to speak up, and say what we were thinking on the subject. Alot of times our teacher guided the topic, or started the topic, but alot of times it drifted away from that subject to something else that the teens had been thinking about or asked questions about. Open discussion is sooo much better. I've been in SEVERAL Teen Bible classes, and this was one of the only classes that I felt like I benefited from and was truly interested in as a teen. I feel like it also made our group more tight knit. I got to know the people in my class better, because I could hear their thoughts on things, and we learned alot from each other. We focused alot on life issues. Things that affected us, and put those things into a biblical perspective, and even the teens themselves were encouraged to give examples where Bible references for the things that we were discussing could be found. One good thing that I really enjoyed doing was this. Our teacher would have us all write a question down (could be anonymous if we wanted it to be), and we would fold our paper up and put it in a bag, and every week we would pull a question out, and it would be read, and we would have a discussion on it. The teens were encouraged first to try to answer the question, and our leader wrapped it up with a summary of an answer to the question. Sometimes we had time to do 2 questions, or more, depends on the question, and how long the kids wanted to talk about it. What made it so awesome to me, is that I felt like I grew spiritually better once we all had our "faults" out in the open, or were more accountable to each other. It was really awesome, and I'll never forget that class! In fact, my husband and I have been asked to teach that class, because my old teachers are doing other things now, rather than teach the youth class! We aren't living in that area, but we are praying about moving back there next year to be in ministry at my home church. I hope this helped a little bit. I hope I wrote everything so that it was easy to read! God Bless.
  9. My husband does web design from home. he kinda does freelance work now, and is associated with his father's business, but not really an employee of his dad's company. I was curious about how we should handle all of this, report our income.. etc. I wanted to get Quicken Home & business. I have used Quicken, and like it better than Microsoft Money. I am just curious on where to go from here... any advice would be great. I've only ever worked for OTHER people. lol. TIA
  10. I just don't see how it's disrespecting God. I too was going to post some verses about a woman HAVING to cover her head . 1 Cor. 11. The fact is, all these things are TRADITIONS. None of them came directly from Jesus. In those days they had many diff. traditions than we do now. It used to be the traditions that people take off their hats going in ANYWHERE, not just church. To other people's homes, when meeting new people, and I'm sure many other instances. It's not that way much anymore. Most young people aren't going to get offended if someone introduces someone else, or themselves, without taking off their hat. It also used to be traditions that men would stand when a woman came into the room, or left the room. If you DIDN'T it was a sign of disrespect. It's not like that any more. There are so many traditions that come and go, and it's NOT a major issue. Saying you HAVE to take off your hat to come to this church, etc. Is legalism. I often wear a beanie, or bandana to church. Am I doing it out of disrespect of God? NO. I'm doing it because it's a part of my outfit, or I'm having a bad hair day.. or something. To say that someone is purposely disrespecting God for wearing a hat in church is wrong. You don't know that person's heart, and there are alot bigger issues to worry about within the body of Christ.
  11. I was just recently in New Mexico, and it was different... but I wouldn't want to live there. I didn't think it was all that pretty. We drove through Arizona though. My Husband lived in Prescott, Arizona, and it was GORGEOUS!!!! Everywhere in Arizona we went it was WONDERFUL, and the altitude is quite high in Prescott. VERY dry. New Mexico was very... BLAH to me, my husband, and my father(who came on our road trip with us. We moved to WA. State) Good luck with your move PS. we lived in Florida all summer and was there through the Hurricanes. On top of the fact I HATED Florida anyways... THAT made it worse.
  12. I would ask if my grandpa was in heaven, with my grandma. We dont know if he was a Christian. It's one of the worst things to haev someone you love so much die, and not know if you will see them again.
  13. I love alot of secular music, and I am a Christian. I put myself at a limit though, if the words are clearly sinful, and wrong, then don't listen to it. There is so much wonderful music out there, but there is also some bad music, we need to use our discernment.
  14. Nope, you didn't say it was all bad, and because you didn't care for it doesn't make you a bad person... no one said it did though.
  15. Yeah... what does Benny Hinn have to do with Promise keepers? lol I would think the local churches would be more responsible for following up after new believers. And that they would get into a church. Also, like ray said, they can fill out slips to be contacted with, or go to the website. My husband enjoys PK much and thinks they are right on with most of their teaching, and encouragment to men. Also, I too would like to know how this "divides" the church??
  16. I don't think there is a problem with being friends with non-Christians. Like Shelby wrote, I have family who are not Christians. One of my best friends is my cousin, and she is not a Christian. I believe we arent' to get dragged into sin, or be influenced by them, but I think a majority of Christians who are in fellowship, and have other Godly Christian friends and influences, aren't going to be dragged down by one, or even a few non-christians friends. Also, just because someone isnt' a Christian ,doesn't mean they are doing horrible things, or are going to try to get you to do it to. Especially if they KNOW you are a Christian, they will probably leave you alone about that stuff.
  17. I can not think of ANY situation where I would condone an abortion. Even in the case of the mother's life. I know people who were told they would NOT live, and did. Put it in God's hands. There is NO excuse for murdering an innocent child.
  18. Has anyone used Vonage phone service? My husband and I are moving and I was wondering if it was worth the money. It seems unreal! It's so inexpensive, compared to regular phone service. Vonage Phone Service
  19. I CANNOT see how having a birthday or a party is a form of idolatry, or worshipping oneself... lol. I truly am laughing at that. I would say MOST people have birthday parties to get to hang out with their friends and family. I always have. I LOVE birthdays, because the family and friends get together for a party, and eat food! Why is that different than any other celebration? What is wrong with celebrating the birth of someone you love and care about???
  20. I liked the Music as well, but I like many Secular Artists. I too didn't see any mention of Christianity, God or anything on her site. It kind of bothers me when Christians who are in the music industry don't make their faith evident. I don't think anyone who wasn't a Christian could go to her site or listen to her music and be able to tell she was a Christian.
  21. My husband and I LOVE Star Wars. We prefer the original ones over the new ones. But I liked the two new ones so far, can't wait to see Episode III
  22. GOD created different scents, and herbs for our benefit. Just because someone who is into the occult is using it, means Christians can't either? I believe God made our bodies a certain way to respond to certain things. He made foods, veggies, fruits, grains etc. to HELP our bodies, and to promote our health. He also made herbs, and scents to help us feel good too. Why is that satanic? or occultic?
  23. So excited to hear about the new souls added to the Church. I too was wondering if there are any discipleship programs or anything to follow up with these kids, and help them GROW. Blessings,
  24. I LOVE candles, and SMELLS.. mmmm, Aromatherapy is fine. Nothing wrong with it. What could be wrong with smelling wonderful smells, and feeling good?
