thats why Im a believer of seminary schools. Paul was trying to organize, preach, and teach the good news. He did this without a bible, on foot under a time constraint. If he would of lived another 200 years he may be would of opened one.... 3xR0c|<stAr How does an institution become a seminary school. Who are the teachers. Would not those same teachers also need to be able to trace their teaching back to the Apostles. Who taught the teachers? If the seminary school does not have its roots in the progression described from the Bible would this not be a tradition established by man? I think it would be important to know a little about the seminary. What is its history? good gseminary schools do have a history. Paul was basically a teacher making house calls. Do you think all the churches he established were perfect? no. we have an advantage to something that they didnt have back in the first couple of centuries...that is something called a bible. the down side to that is that many dont read it but piece it apart. im guilty of that but i know when to say something and when to not. the disciplne is to not say something youre not sure of. trying to find roots of who taught who is obsolete. a thing called religion tainted that. ... 3xR0c|<stAr When did the Bible make this obsolete? I do not see where scripture tells us that Gods plan for establishing his pastors changed. You asked if the churches Paul established were perfect, no they were humans. But the Bible does tell us that they will be guided by the Holy Spirit. But if a church has not followed this prescribed method of establishing its pastors does it still have this promise? You have offered some opinion but lets see how our opinion stack up to what scripture tells us. Just having a history does not mean that history followed scripture. Again scripture tells us in several places that the pastors of the church will be taught and "ordained" through a succession of teachers all the way back to the Apostles. Anything outside of this is following a tradition (teaching) of man, not the tradition (teaching) of God. God Bless, Kansas Dad

The Bible tells us exactly how our preachers are to "come about" Paul told Timothy, "[W]hat you have heard from me before many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also" (2 Tim. 2:2). In this passage he refers to the first four generations of pastors

i might, The problem is that you misunderstand the motivation. This is understandable because you are thinking from your own perspective. We all do this. From a Christian belief what happens on earth is not nearly as important as what happens after. We are talking about your eternal soul here. It is far more important to give you a message that has eternal consequences vs a message that is only concerned with the hear and now. If all that matters is the hear and now then by all means have your fun and don't worry about it. You do what you want and I will do what I want. As long as what you are doing doesn't hurt me, life is good. The problem is that this is a totally self centered existence. Christianity calls for you to be self sacrificing, something we humans don't do very well on our own. When a Christian talks to you about your behavior and tells you that it is a sin, they truly are very concerned for you personally. It is not a value statement, it is not, or at least it shouldn't be, a "I am better than you statement" It should be said with love and kindness not to humiliate you, but not sugared down either. What you are doing is a sin and if a person continues on such a path they are in active rebellion against God. God will allow you to separate yourself from him. When you die Gods allows your choice to stand. So do you really want to choose to be eternally separated from God. That is what Hell is. I know you don't believe this, but I do. And like it or not I do care about your eternal existence with God. God is calling you back, please pray and listen. God Bless, K.D.

You just proved my point that what Jesus said or teaches isn't the word of God. WHAT, JESUS is the word of God!

Let me ask you this. Lets not make this a gay/straight issue. What does the Bible say about having sexual relations outside of marriage, of any sort, and how does the Bible define such marriage? God Bless, K.D.

Why do you think Jesus makes a very special point about the bread and wine and instructs us to do this in rememberance of him. Why this "tradition". He could have told us to do any number of things. Any thoughts on why the bread and wine? K.D.

"Finally, I feel the need to reaffirm once again that not everything that is scientifically possible is also ethically legitimate. Technology, when it reduces the human being to an object of experimentation, ends up by abandoning the weak to the power of the strongest. Entrusting oneself blindly to technology as the only guarantee of progress, without at the same time presenting an ethical code, ... would be an act of violence against human nature, with devastating consequences for everyone." Pope Benedict XVI How very true, God Bless, K.D.

Thank you for this thread. There is much healing here. God is present. I have lost both of my parents not that long ago. My mother when she was 58 and my father when he was 64. The emptiness still hits me at times. For no apparent reason I will just miss them. There is no longer something tangible. I lost Both parents to cancer, I hate that disease. My Mother fought it with grace, and a positive attitude, but lost the fight. She suffered through the process. My Father did not fight well, It was a difficult period, and he physically suffered as well. Our family did come together through the process and continue to be a good support for each other. Yes the pain will ease but will always be there. I can not imagine loosing a child. For those that have, I am so sorry for your lose. My Wife has also lost her Father, So the only one left is her Mother. God Bless, K.D.

I think these are symbolic penances. Sometimes priests are more creative. The Hail Mary prayer is based on scripture, and of course the Our Father is the holiest prayer for Christians. I think, you may have not understood my query correctly...While I am aware about the prayers, what I wanted to know is whether the reciting of these prayers as a penance is scriptural...like reciting these prayers for 10 or 50 times as demanded by the priests? Here is scripture that supports penance: Luke 13: 1-5 1 And there were present, at that very time, some that told him of the Galileans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. 2 And he answering, said to them: Think you that these Galileans were sinners above all the men of Galilee, because they suffered such things? 3 No, I say to you: but unless you shall do penance, you shall all likewise perish. 4 Or those eighteen upon whom the tower fell in Siloe, and slew them: think you, that they also were debtors above all the men that dwelt in Jerusalem? 5 No, I say to you; but except you do penance, you shall all likewise perish.

This is true for this specific authority but the fervent prayers of others is also used and beneficial of other persons praying specifically for the forgiveness of sins of another. See I John 5:15-16. Yes very good point, also we see in scripture that through the faith of others one can have sins forgiven. We see this in the servant, a spouse. Sorry don't know the chapter and verse, have to look it up. I should also include, James 5:16. The first Sunday of Lent is also called "Confession Sunday". We still have as either part of the Liturgy or a special service a personal, one on one confession between each congregant present.

With God working through them. It is Gods use of the men he has put in charge, so to speek. Of worthy note is that this is said to the Apostles only. This was not a general directive to any person.

K, regarding the authority of an apostle: Romans 16 tells us of a woman apostle, Junia. In fact, in 1 Co 12:28, Paul lists this position as 'first', and 'second' he lists 'prophets' ...according to God's divine appointment. Women then indeed have held the highest position within the body, that of apostle. 'Now early in this century a very famous German scholar, Hans Lietzmann, who was a superb philologian, made an investigation into all surviving names of antiquity and came to the conclusion that the name Junias did not exist -- that the name Junianus existed and that the name Junias is possible as a short form for the name Junianus, but there was no evidence that it was ever used. So he says philologically you cannot bring evidence that this was a man Junias rather than a woman Junia, but he says that since it's not thinkable that a woman was an apostle, we have to read the male name Junias. And later commentaries say we have to read the male name Junias, because Hans Lietzmann has brought the philological evidence. Well,... he has done the evidence. He has done the opposite! So, no question -- scholars agree today that indeed Romans 16 contains reference to a female apostle named Junia, whom Paul recognized as an apostle before him. ' There is alot of other info regarding Junia, in a commentary here: http://www.bibletexts.com/versecom/rom16.htm Latin Vulgate Douay-Rheims Bible 6 Salute Mary, who hath laboured much among you. 7 Salute Andronicus and Junias, my kinsmen and fellow prisoners: who are of note among the apostles, who also were in Christ before me. NIV: 7Greet Andronicus and Junias, my relatives who have been in prison with me. They are outstanding among the apostles, and they were in Christ before I was. KJV: 7Salute Andronicus and Junia, my kinsmen, and my fellow-prisoners, who are of note among the apostles, who also were in Christ before me. Darby translation: 7Salute Andronicus and Junias, my kinsmen and fellow-captives, who are of note among the apostles; who were also in Christ before me. Young's Literal Translation : 7salute Andronicus and Junias, my kindred, and my fellow-captives, who are of note among the apostles, who also have been in Christ before me. NAB: Greet Andronicus and Junia, 5 my relatives and my fellow prisoners; they are prominent among the apostles and they were in Christ before me. Foot notes: ] The name Junia is a woman's name. One ancient Greek manuscript and a number of ancient versions read the name "Julia." Most editors have interpreted it as a man's name, Junias. Either a feminine name or Junias, a masculine name Interesting

The thing is, this eclipse does not fulfill Jesus' prophecy, or more correctly Joel's any more than any other eclipse. A mere lunar eclipse cannot fulfill this verse. Joel 2:10The earth shall quake before them; the heavens shall tremble: the sun and the moon shall be dark, and the stars shall withdraw their shining: Joel 2:31 The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD. Acts 2:20 The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord. Revelation 6:12 And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; Matthew 24:29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: Joel 2:10 The earth shall quake before them; the heavens shall tremble: the sun and the moon shall be dark, and the stars shall withdraw their shining: Joel 3:15 The sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their shining. All of this is the same prophecy being told over and over again with different, yet agreeing details. But it should be obvious that no eclipse could ever fulfill this prophecy. While the moon may have been tinted red from the sun's rays, yet the sun was not black, there was no earthquake, and the stars are still shining. In fact, here in the western hemisphere, it was a bright sunny day whilst this eclipse was taking place. So no, it was not even close to fulfilling this age-old prophecy. The only thing that actually could fulfill this prophecy is if one of the biggest miracles since creation were to occur, because there is no naturalistic means of this thing ever being fulfilled. I agree that is why I said using natural occurring events, and calling them supernatural signs will make some people call everything prophetic, dumb. and in fact may lead people away.

Hi, I was the same, i was eating only junk food and was putting on so much weight, i tried taking adios tablets which didnt help, i went on the atkins diet and lost half a stone and as soon as i came off it i put more than two stone on, after 2 years i finally decided to make a change for the better, i didnt like feeling fat and frumpy, i pursuaded my husband to invest in some gym equipment (treadmill and bike) and i hav worked out for 6 weeks now, daily and have been eating healthy, its important to eat breakfast as it helps your body to start burning calories form early morning and your body does not store fats thinking it wont get fed again. i was just over 12 stone when i started, i walked on the treadmill for 4 weeks until i felt comfortable with running on it, i also spent 10 mins on the bike and do 40 sit ups a day, i have lost 1 stone and 3 pounds in 6 weeks and have never felt better, i feel more energetic and i look more toned and thinner, my advice would be to keep off the pills and try the natural approach. of course i prayed and prayed to the Lord to help keep me motivated enough to keep at exercising and He has done so. I thank the Lord for everything and i am so grateful to the Lord for helping me every step of the way. i am going to continue exercising and maybe slow down a little bit now as i am eating alot healther now. Pray the Lord helps you. With love in Him. Ayesha I love this international board we have AHHHHHH what is a stone? God Bless, Some hick from Kansas, Kansas Dad

Every single generation has looked at the Bible and predicted (from the bible) that the end was near and used events of their time as proof. WW1, WW2, the middle East has been a major source of violence and war for 1000's of years. They have hated Israel and the Jews for 1000's of years. They have been trying to exterminate them for 1000's of years. If you think the violence is bad today, go back to the dark ages of history, you talk about violence and hatred. Think about this. God thinks to himself , Ok I am going to send 5,354 eclipse for them to observe but one of them is a prophetic sign, now I am not going to make it really any different than all the others but they should be able to tell. Now I am not saying that events of the world doesn't look interesting and seem to have correlation to events described in the Bible, but when you try to use common natural occurring events to point to supernatural signs, it just makes the whole subject look dumb.

We have had thousands of eclipse in the history of the earth, some of them have been this visible and greater. Why is this one significant and the others were not?
