  1. At the taxpayers expense. Bush mailed out over a million of them. If you figure conservatively at $0.30 a card + $0.25 Postage * 1 Million that = $550,000 wasted dollars that could have done some real good or at least taxes that could have been refunded. I would have much rather he sent that $550,000 dollars to a good charity like Salvation Army instead.
  2. His son, you keep saying "real" scientists have proved creation yet I haven't seen any links or refernces to said information. If it's true there where is the information? There actually is plenty of evidence to support the theory, whether the theory is right or wrong will depend on the passage of time and what new information shows up. As for being an unprovable theory, if it was 100% provable then it wouldn't be a theory, it would be a fact now wouldn't it? I have a question for you His Son, if the age of the earth is young, why would God leave so much evidence to the contrary? Please do use the excuse that we are interpreting the evidence wrong, because the chance that at least 10 different fields of scientific study would be wrong at the same time is so small it's not worth mentioning. In summary why would God make everything "old" ? Why do creationists find evolution so threatening? Evolution has nothing to do with disproving God. While some athiests do use it in this way, they wrongly do so.
  3. I have a question for all the young earth creationists here on the boards, why do you feel that believing in a old earth is such a leap from the bible? After all the bible isn't meant to be a scientific text, it's a spiritual text and whether man was created instantly or evolved has no bearing on the existence of God. Genesis is specific to a point but in scientific terms it's extrememly vague and in my view with good reason. The original audience from Genesis would have been utterly confused by a scientific account of events and it also would have served no real purpose. If God knew this was going to be such a point of contention why didn't he just stamp a date on creation if it was a young earth? It would have been easy to do so.
  4. YES, I'M A BAD AMERICAN by George Carlin I Am Your Worst Nightmare. I am a BAD American. I am George Carlin. I believe the money I make belongs to me and my family, not some mid level governmental functionary be it Democratic or Republican! I'm in touch with my feelings and I like it that way. I think owning a gun doesn't make you a killer, it makes you a smart American. I think being a minority does not make you noble or victimized, and does not entitle you to anything. I believe that if you are selling me a Big Mac, try to do it in English. I think fireworks should be legal on the 4th of July. I think that being a student doesn't give you any more enlightenment than working at Blockbuster. In fact, if your parents are footing the bill to put you through 4 years plus, of college, you haven't begun to be enlightened. I believe everyone has a right to pray to his or her God when and where they want to. My heroes are John Wayne, Babe Ruth, Roy Rogers, and whoever canceled Jerry Springer. I don't hate the rich. I don't pity the poor. I know wrestling is fake and I don't waste my time arguing about it. I think global warming is a big lie. Where are all those experts now, when I'm freezing during these long winters and paying, paying, paying? I've never owned a slave, or was a slave, I didn't wander forty years In the desert after getting chased out of Egypt. I haven't burned any witches or been persecuted by the Turks and neither have you! . I want to know which church is it exactly where the Reverend Jesse Jackson practices, where he gets his money, and why he is always part of the problem and not the solution. Can I get an AMEN on that one? I think the cops have every right to shoot you if you're running from them. I also think they have the right to pull you over if you're breaking the law, regardless of what color you are. I think if you are too stupid to know how a ballot works, I don't want you deciding who should be running the most powerful nation in the world for the next four years. I dislike those people standing in the intersections trying to sell me crap or trying to guilt me into making "donations" to their cause. These people should be targets. I believe that it doesn't take a village to raise a child, it takes two parents. And what is going on with gas prices... again? If this makes me a BAD American, then yes, I'm a BAD American. We need our country back! I knew I liked George Carlin for a reason. Maybe I'll write him in on the Ballot.
  5. NT. I Don't argue with idiots anymore
  6. Just FYI Sam, Here in Idaho the Gasoline Tax is $0.42 a gallon and most gas here is around $2.00.
  7. Most of the time though all three things are linked with age. I'm not saying always, but a good portion of the time they are.
  8. Gasoline is still cheaper per capita income than it was in 1950 as well. The price of gasoline has been artificially held down by the US government to promote economic growth. Looks like they actually might have to change some policies and rethink what they are doing. example: 1 dollar in 1950 is about the same as 7.5 dollars today. Average price of gasoline in 1950 - $0.27 Average price today in 2004 - $1.93 Price of gasoline in 1950 in today's Dollars $2.02 And that's with cleaner gas with more environmental controls today. I'd say we're pretty lucky and I'm surprised we don't have a gas price like they do in europe of around $5.00 per gallon. Car makers have been dragging their feet and now they have no excuse.
  9. 100 Miles per quart has been around a long time but the problem on a standard combustion engine is that you can't just slap a new carburetor on it and have it get that kind of mileage, the vehicle and engine have to be designed around it as well. People are stuck on having more power and more power translates into less Miles per Gallon. The future for now is Hybrid electric and eventually electric/fuel cell. Remember, the power when you plug a electric car into the wall is most likely generated by some type of fossil fuel, usually coal sometimes natural gas
  10. I would disagree that choices are made for us. Otherwise it would be a completely arbitrary system. We have to have free will or else the reason for having a savior and making a choice to come to him is meaningless.
  11. I think a lot of marriages fail because of the expectations going into the marriage. The best thing I ever did before getting married was go through "marriage counseling" with my wife with our pastor. He absolutely resfused to marry us without it. He also recommended reading a book by John Gottman called "seven priciples of making marriage work" that was a great book. Another pitfall is not discussing what you expect to get out of being married with your spouse BEFORE you get married. If they don't have the same expectations or at least close to it, that should be an immediate red flag.
  12. Which movie is your favorite? While "The Ten Commandments" with Charleton Heston is great I think I prefer the latest "The Prince of Egypt" from Dreamworks. And a funny story to boot, someone in college borrowed my DVD copy of "The Ten Commandments" and never returned it. It still irks me.
  13. I believe you are referring to what is commonly know as "The Spear of Destiny". Hitler is said to have committed suicide the same day US forces took possession of the spear while invading Nuremberg.
  14. Yet he preached the benefits of Catholocism and Christianity. Hitler may not have been a christian, but he's a good example of how a political leader can dupe christians into thinking their leader is moral until it's too late. And PS, Hitler wasn't an Athiest but that's already been said. It's scary to me how many people follow a leader just because he seems to put forth christian values when he actually isn't.
  15. Heh if everything was black and white the world would be much simpler than it is right now.
  16. Lady Liberty isn't a goddess in her current form, she's a symbol of the Idea of freedom in the US. Now the origins of her likeness and meaning may have come from the Greek goddess minerva but that meaning was lost long before she was used on US currency. Today Lady Liberty is a symbol designating two of the United States' most celibrated ideals, Freedom & Liberty. I believe the idea of wedding rings has also changed from the pagan origins. The wedding ring as a plain circle has come to be symbolic of endless love and the marriage bond. The gold of which it is made represents purity and noble and durable affection. As my pastor put it, it is a reminder of the promise you made to your spouse, that you knew that they were not perfect when you married them but the promise you made to each other and God would be enough to keep you together.
  17. I agree, but I see many people here forget that God does not always mean Christianity. Although we would like all people to know Jesus it just isn't going to happen, but I keep trying =).
  18. I understand your point very well KitKat, it's just that I think we have to tread lightly as well. I don't think God should be completely left out of governemtn, but at the same time we can't have the government endorsing any particular belief either. The diversity of people from so many different viewpoints is one of the great things about this country, at the same time if not handled properly it could be our greatest downfall.
  19. I could say just as many of the founding Fathers felt that religion and govenment should be seperate entities. James Madison, fourth president and father of the Constitution, was not religious in any conventional sense. He said: "Religious bondage shackles and debilitates the mind and unfits it for every noble enterprise." "During almost fifteen centuries has the legal establishment of Christianity been on trial. What have been its fruits? More or less in all places, pride and indolence in the Clergy, ignorance and servility in the laity, in both, superstition, bigotry and persecution." "Religion and government will both exist in greater purity, the less they are mixed together." John Adams, the country's second president, was drawn to the study of law but faced pressure from his father to become a clergyman. He wrote that he found among the lawyers 'noble and gallant achievments" but among the clergy, the "pretended sanctity of some absolute dunces". Late in life he wrote: "Twenty times in the course of my late reading, have I been upon the point of breaking out, "This would be the best of all possible worlds, if there were no religion in it!" Thomas Jefferson: "The clergy converted the simple teachings of Jesus into an engine for enslaving mankind and adulterated by artificial constructions into a contrivance to filch wealth and power to themselves...these clergy, in fact, constitute the real Anti-Christ." Last: The First Amendment
  20. Please show me an example. I won't deny that some of the founding fathers were christians but religion and the church did not have direct influence in the government. Please list who is anti-God. While I do not agree with the values of a lot of our government, all Liberals are not Anti God. Seperation of Church and state has been taken too far I agree, but rather than sit here and complain about it try and do something to change it. I'm trying to get a picture on what you think is anti-god and Liberal so give me an idea.
  21. LadyC do you at least have a link for the cases? Just curious as I would like to do some research on it.
  22. Which domesticated plants are you referring to? People never "understood" the genome thousands of years ago, they just took favorible characteristics from their best crops and kept seed from those to grow another with hopefully the same characteristics. After several hundred years they had the best characteristics that had shown up in those crops.
  23. Arthur if you're not going to back up your arguments and spout rhetoric why should anyone let alone christians lend weight to your words? If you're going to say all terrorists are Muslims you're going to have to back that up, and I can tell you right now you'd lose on that claim. As a man of God how can you honestly preach the way you do and expect to bring anyone to Jesus? If that is not your goal then you honestly need to take another look at what you are preaching and why. You haven't even posed a solution the the problems you mentioned and without a solution we are at an impass aren't we.
  24. Actually Katatonic my question about who they were praying to was directed to Arthur as he seems bent on saying the word Allah does not mean the same thing in arabic that God does in english. You can't have it both ways, either it means God or it doesn't.
