  1. Excellent advice and I totally agree! I would like to add.... be yourself rather than trying to "be the preacher", share with them rather than preach at them, be prepared but allow the Holy Spirit to direct you even if it is in a different direction than you planned. (I just thought twice before hitting "Add Reply" since I am female... but I do teach and I have found this advice helpful, so I will post anyway... please don't flame me about women preachers cuz I'm not one )
  2. Non-profit organizations cannot follow God? I assure you they can and do. I have been involved in inner-city youth ministry through a non-profit organization... monies earned go back into ministry... back into sharing the gospel and discipling others... and of course some to staff and maintenence, etc. Perhaps you should take a visit to a ministry like the one I am involved in and after seeing children, teens, families, gangbangers, drug addicts, murderers, abusers, etc give their lives to Christ, then you can better determine which master they serve.
  3. Romans 13:1 - Everyone must submit to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those that exist are instituted by God. His instructions are to submit to governing authorities. Okay, Were state marriage licenses issued in Jesus time? Snow <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It is nonsensical to proclaim something as unbiblical simply because it was not around the time Jesus was... if that were true you should have as much an issue with computers as marriage licenses.
  4. NASA's return to flight web coverage: Spacecraft Communicator Ken Ham in Mission Control Houston called Space Shuttle Discovery with an optimistic weather report for landing today. The first landing opportunity is at 4:47 a.m. EDT. Commander Eileen Collins, Pilot Jim Kelly and the rest of the crew are well into their preparations for landing at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. One important milestone, closing the orbiter's payload bay doors, was executed after the weather report and an official "go" from Mission Control. If the crew gets the go-ahead from Mission Control for the first landing opportunity, Collins and Pilot Jim Kelly will execute an engine burn that drops Discovery from orbit at 3:40 a.m. EDT. If weather prohibits landing on that orbit, Discovery will have another opportunity about 90 minutes later. Let's keep them in prayer. BBC News: Discovery crew ready for re-entry <---link has live video... pretty kewl.
  5. I agree with you, ann2, and I think the scientists would be doing themselves a favor if they asked themselves that very question! Zayit, I had questions in regards to that as well. I think it could be used to prove the truth of the Biblical account of creation and some of the "begats", but as Satan always does he could twist it for his benefit... there are certainly many ways he could use it.
  6. Don't you think they could run a similar collection of DNA with apes and prove we don't have monkeyboys hanging from out family tree? Couldn't they trace them back and find apes were apes and humans were humans and missing links were either one thing or another but not some transitional species? (facts we already know!) I mean many scientists still think "Lucy" is a missing link because even though the skulls were ape-like, they had human-like teeth and a spinal column indicating it walked and ran while upright? Big woop. Do you think tests like these have the potential to disprove evolution?
  7. The Genographic Project: this is really interesting... National Geographic, IBM, geneticist Spencer Wells, and the Waitt Family Foundation are conducting a five-year study of the world's largest collection of DNA samples (from hundreds of thousands of indigenous people and the general public) to study genetic markers and map how humans populated the planet. (They say you can even participate in the project and find where and when some of your earliest relatives originated and how they lived.) I am curious how y

  9. The repairs are underway. NASA sent the shuttle crew a 12-page email explaining how to take a space-walk and pick off the pieces protruding from the shuttle they are concerned might cause the shuttle to overheat on re-entry to the Earth's atmosphere. NASA Begins Shuttle Repairs Let's pray it is fixed.
  10. Someone unlock the Chat Room in this Worthy House!!! It's down again.
  11. Well, Keith is definately a "cheeky monkey" but we love him anyway! You like everybody! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I had never heard the term 'cheeky' until I was called it too, lol. I asked for the definition and I was told, "cutely mischievious."
  12. imho, evil is a departure from what God created as good. it's an 'act' not a 'thing.'
  13. Oooh... indoor plumbing. There's another one of life's creature comforts. The day the corn cob was swapped for Ultra-Quilted Northern was a red letter day indeed! (Replacing the rather red-from-the-corn-cob bum!) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
  14. Yikes that must have been painful. And yeah, tornados happening here regularly would be freaky and concerning... so if quakes are not common in Montana, then that might be concerning too! And yeah, I remember Northridge. I was 17 (?) and home alone. I heard it before I felt it. I heard what sounded like a train... we didn't have rr tracks near our street though, so I thought maybe it was a speeding semi... as I walked to the window to see what all the noise was, the windows began to shake... then the house... then I was trying to keep my balance on my floor that was moving in waves... talk about freaky! seeing something solid move like liquid! My dad had been getting out of the car and lost his balance and fell- he thought he was having a stroke, lol. My friend said her car started sliding to the right and thought something happened to her car until she saw everyone else was sliding to the right.
  15. I think most are probably leaving due to the cost of living here- it is insane. I don't think most are concerned about the quakes (until you're standing in you bedroom and you see the floor literally rippling or at work and your desk comes jittering across the floor towards you)... we always semi-joke about falling into the ocean someday. In my geology class I remember that topic addressed... my professor said or course Long Beach wouldn't drop off into the ocean, it's sandy foundation would liquify and sink In that class we went to the San Andreas faultline in Wrightwood (a cute little mountain town) and stood on the fault... on either side of the crevice were these piles of powder that had been boulders that had fallen into the crevice, been ground up and pushed back out by the friction- it was pretty amazing.
  16. It's very hot and humid in Cali too... and my air conditioning broke in the house it was 90 in here (my car doesn't have ac either boy do I need a job so I can get a car with ac!)
  17. sounds like a lovely place OK... being from Cali I don't find a 5.6 a big deal unless it is in a place that normally doesn't have quakes. So my question is, are these places that normally have quakes? I mean here we have hundreds of quakes all the time and most we don't feel... 3's and 4's aren't a big deal and usually 5's are merely noticable... but... not a big deal in Cali may be a big deal somewhere else... so are these quakes a big deal??? Anyone know what USGS is saying about them???
  18. When the shuttle blasted off last Tuesday, chunks of foam could be seen breaking off the external fuel tank. After the Columbia shuttle was destroyed in 2003 killing the 7 crew members, modifications were made to the shuttle yet debris fell off in a similar manner. As a precaution, NASA "grounded" the shuttle until they can determine if it is safe for the shuttle to return in 10 days. If it is damaged, the crew could be stranded at the International Space Station until they get picked up by a rescue craft. Let's keep them in prayer that they return safely. 19. Well... I do inner-city youth ministry and my teens can come to me about anything... and yeah, sometimes they are embarassed... and sometimes even I am, lol... there have been times when they have told me things that were soooooooo hard to talk about but once they did, it wasn't as bad as they thought it would be and it even helped... I would hope she is the type of Christian you can talk to and who is following His will- if so, don't be afraid.... just pray and ask God to give you an opportunity to speak with her and to guide your words and even for God to guide her in how she reacts. If God leads you to speak to her it's all good- just keep focused on Him
  20. Just tell her you need to talk and tell her how you feel Have you tried talking to her and asking if you two could hang out? It may not be intentional that she is hanging out less with you... it may just be that the other girls are wanting to hang out with her too... idk. Just ask her, "Hey, could we go get a coffee?" (or whatever) and then talk to her Just be straight up with her... let her know you miss spending time with her and you feel kind of jealous that others get to spend time with her... she should be cool with that.
  21. Exactly... I can't find any in the Bible, so I would appreciate Biblical evidence. What I do find in the Bible and from my understanding is that Christ is the only mediator between God and man - 1Timothy 2:5 - For there is one God and one mediator between God and man, a man, Christ Jesus, God alone is worthy of worship- 1 Chronicles 29:11-12 - Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the splendor and the majesty, for everything in the heavens and on earth belongs to You. Yours, Lord, is the kingdom, and You are exalted as head over all. Riches and honor come from You, and You are the ruler of everything. In Your hand are power and might, and it is in Your hand to make great and to give strength to all. , and we are not to communicate with the dead (even aksing them to "intercede" for us - Deuteronomy 18:10a,11b - No one among you is to... cast spells, consult a medium or a familiar spirit, or inquire of the dead - and I would think that means even attempting to communicate with the saints in heaven - Luke 16:19-31 ..."'Father Abraham!' he called out, 'Have mercy on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this flame!'"...- there was a great chasm that they couldn't pass and the dead couldn't help the living. Could you help me out and please reference the Scriptures you base something on???
  22. Hi! Welcome to Worthy!!! I hope we can be of some help here I agree with Pipit in that it can be difficult giving advice when we don't know the nature of your relationship and we don't know you but... we can try to help as best we can and we can share applicable verses with you (and help you find some yourself). The Bible is the Living Word of God- so the Truths of it can always be applied to our lives- and we are here to comfort each other, learn from each other, share God's love with each other. Most churches offer free counseling- perhaps you could talk to a pastor or Christian counselor? It's great to hear you want to be closer to God... and guess what... He wants that too! God's promises do not fail, and He promises Christians to be with us (Psalm 73:23-24) and He promises that nothing can separate us from His love (Romans 8:37-39). There are many people who can understand what you are going through and can give you comfort... maybe they could send you a personal message and share how with God's help, they have gotten through what you are going through. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 praises the Father of Compassion and the God of all Comfort.... because He comforts us in all our troubles and that enables us to comfort others... we're here for you, want2getbetter. I will give you some links to online Bibles... these resources are great and allow you to search a few different ways and in different versions of the Bible. Some versions might be easier to read for you... if you are unfamiliar with the Bible, it might be easier for you to read the New Living Translation (NLT), but my personal favorites are King James (KJV), New King James Version (NKJV), New Amercian Standard Bible (NASB), New International Version Crosswalk's default Bible version is the Holman Christian Standard Bible... this is a newer version and I have found I like it pretty well. You can type in a verse (for example, John 3:16), a keyword (love), or a phrase (God so loved)... the verse/s will then be listed. Crosswalk.com Bible Bible Gateway has a list of available versions- an easy to read version is the New Living Translation. If you click on that, a page will come up showing links to every chapter of the Bible. NLT Chapters[/blue] You can also search at Bible Gateway by keywords (their example, "Jesus love") Bible Keyword Search Here are some verses for you... 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 4 Love is patient; love is kind. Love does not envy; is not boastful; is not conceited; 5 does not act improperly; is not selfish; is not provoked; does not keep a record of wrongs; 6 finds no joy in unrighteousness, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Ephesians 3: 1 - 21 1 I, Paul, am a prisoner of Christ Jesus because of my preaching to you Gentiles. 2 As you already know, God has given me this special ministry of announcing his favor to you Gentiles. 3 As I briefly mentioned earlier in this letter, God himself revealed his secret plan to me. 4 As you read what I have written, you will understand what I know about this plan regarding Christ. 5 God did not reveal it to previous generations, but now he has revealed it by the Holy Spirit to his holy apostles and prophets. 6 And this is the secret plan: The Gentiles have an equal share with the Jews in all the riches inherited by God's children. Both groups have believed the Good News, and both are part of the same body and enjoy together the promise of blessings through Christ Jesus. 7 By God's special favor and mighty power, I have been given the wonderful privilege of serving him by spreading this Good News. 8 Just think! Though I did nothing to deserve it, and though I am the least deserving Christian there is, I was chosen for this special joy of telling the Gentiles about the endless treasures available to them in Christ. 9 I was chosen to explain to everyone this plan that God, the Creator of all things, had kept secret from the beginning. 10 God's purpose was to show his wisdom in all its rich variety to all the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms. They will see this when Jews and Gentiles are joined together in his church. 11 This was his plan from all eternity, and it has now been carried out through Christ Jesus our Lord. 12 Because of Christ and our faith in him, we can now come fearlessly into God's presence, assured of his glad welcome. 13 So please don't despair because of what they are doing to me here. It is for you that I am suffering, so you should feel honored and encouraged. 14 When I think of the wisdom and scope of God's plan, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, F4 15 the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. 16 I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will give you mighty inner strength through his Holy Spirit. 17 And I pray that Christ will be more and more at home in your hearts as you trust in him. May your roots go down deep into the soil of God's marvelous love. 18 And may you have the power to understand, as all God's people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love really is. 19 May you experience the love of Christ, though it is so great you will never fully understand it. Then you will be filled with the fullness of life and power that comes from God. 20 Now glory be to God! By his mighty power at work within us, he is able to accomplish infinitely more than we would ever dare to ask or hope. 21 May he be given glory in the church and in Christ Jesus forever and ever through endless ages. Amen.
  23. If you are not "getting in touch with them," then how do they "hear" the prayer?
