  1. Time to move this to the Humor... forum perhaps?
  2. Technically prayers for Kerry would be on the same level as prayers for Bush in the eyes of the IRS. However, in reality, how does the IRS find out? From liberals attending services ready to report this "misconduct" of course. Prayers for Kerry would certainly be overlooked by them.
  3. I both like and dislike articles like this. I like them for the coolness factor but dislike them for the years or decades it will take to come to practical use, if they don't move on to something else first.
  4. Yes, I think we can thank our Lord for this one. In addition to our praise, we might want to pray for the hearts of those terrorists. And the journalist as well. You can certainly tell that this person is an unbeliever by the use of quotes around the word miracle and the following paragraph denouncing that miracle.
  5. Works for me. I often use that abbreviation myself in fact. So, t... Meet QM
  6. I know, but one can always wish and hope... Well, technically the kids are already allowed to bring a Bible (so is the teacher by the way, he/she just can't endorse it). But as Dani said Christians are often not treated fairly.
  7. Anyway, this isn't to usurp your final say, but rather to mention that our Almighty may not appreciate your calling me just "Qun". <Wails> Forgive him lord for he knows not what he says! I don't wanna end up like Herod [Acts 12:22]!!! <Wails more> (hint: look at my signature) Okay, maybe I wanted the final say just a little, but please don't let me!
  8. Sad as this is, maybe- just maybe- this can become a way to allow Christ back in to the classroom. By law, if they allow one religious group in they must be fair and give all a voice. Otherwise they, according to their interpretation of the Constitution, are giving government endorsement to one religion over another. Any Chrisians from Herndon, Virginia's school district here?
  9. I somewhat agree with you, at least as long as we're talking about public universities and secular colleges. I think most of the problem lies not with the teachers but with peers and your children themselves. For eighteen years Christian parents raise their kids in Christ including taking them to church every week and trying to instill Christian values in them. Suddenly they are living in a dorm with a roommate the college placed them with on a floor with students from many walks of life, most of who probably don't give one care about Christ. The parents are no longer around to guide them- they are left to their own devices for probably the first time. Do you think they would rather isolate themselves from their unbelieving peers or become part of their community doing the things they do? Bear in mind that many kids this age are still trying to find their own identity, one that is not their parents'. Christ almost doesn't stand a chance in this sort of environment where there is little to no Christian guidance. Yes there are groups like Campus Crusade for Christ, but they are like a cry into the wind amidst all the many other groups, the clubs, athletics, etc. Enter Christian colleges. I went to one of these and just graduated a year ago (I also went to public university prior to this, from which I did not graduate). The professors were all required to be born-again followers of Christ and boy were they ever different from many of my professors at the public university. Christ was their center and it showed. They started class out with prayer. They cared intimately about their students and their progress and even went out of their way to help when we needed it. When I was received a bad progress report from my cooperating teacher during student teaching they talked to me, prayed over me, pulled me from that classroom and placed me in another, and sent others to observe me and give a balanced perspective of my teaching. When I ultimately failed they met with me, prayed with me, and handed me a diploma anyway (student teaching by policy could not be retaken). I can't get certified to teach in a public school, but at least I have a bachelor's. So parents, if you can get financial aid, send your kids to a Christian college. They may not have you as a guide when away at school, but at least Christ will still be present in the professors and many of the students. Not all students, unless the college requires it, but far more than at a public university. And you know that they will be going to church too, as most Christian colleges have a chapel requirement.
  10. Wow. I killed another topic. Well, maybe not, but you wouldn't believe the number of topics in which I am left with the last word, not just here but elsewhere as well. Again, nothing of value to this now dead discussion. Only an observation.
  11. Just a clarification on a verse quote a few pages (and 45 minutes of reading ) back. 1Tim 6:10a indeed says in the KJV, "For the love of money is the root of all evil." However, most translations clarify this as not ALL evil but rather "all kinds of evil(s)." Example, the ESV says "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils." As far as I know the KJV and MKJV are the only ones to not make this clarification. Albert Barnes has this to say about it:
  12. Erm... I guess I killed this topic...?
  13. I've been taught that Jehovah is actually a made up name that was made by incorrectly somehow combining YHWH and the vowels of Elohim (did I spell that right?). Any thoughts on this?
  14. I don't think you'll be getting a reply from Tim anytime soon. He's been de-membered (polite way of saying banned). Did anyone notice that he made over a 100 posts in just the few days since he joined? Wow. Since he is no longer a member and cannot respond to accusations, I think it would probably be best to not gossip about him, which is what some of these responses are at the very least bordering on. Be careful, friends. Romans 1:28-30 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, The Holy Bible, English Standard Version
  15. So... the unicorns still exist? Or were they part of the archaic language?
  16. Can it still be called the KJV if the archaic language is changed? Just a nitpick I know, but I'm just curious. In any event this sounds like one to look at.
  17. What do you use as a search now? I use: http://www.gigablast.com/ Thanks for that one. I added it to my Firefox search engines. Time for me to stop Googling. Yes, up until now I was too lazy to change from the default Google engine.
  18. Whoops. Forgot the link to the article: Lockergnome Tech News
  19. Just saw this news item today. I'm sure they didn't do it for the right reasons knowing what we do of Google, but still. The headline shows the writer's stance but don't let that turn you off. Google Headed the Way of the Darkside Fagoogle.com, a search engine tool oriented towards homosexual concerns (What? Really? Whoa) has been taken offline by the big bad boys at Google. The site used Google
  20. If anyone wonders about this, just think about that Duck-Billed Platypus thingy... That should make things a bit clearer...
  21. The liberals are still complaining about those seven minutes? Well, fairly or unfairly every single thing any president does gets scrutinized. I think much of what kitkat says rings very true. It is said that hindsight is 20/20 and today's breed of liberals seem to expect that Bush should have been able to act no less than a god (no offense intended to our one true God, hence the lower case g) in this and other matters. He is as human as the rest of us. He makes mistakes. Yes, he even sins, though I am at sharp disagreement with those who say he is not one of God's children and just a big liar. You and I may not know him personally, but I have the word of godly men who have been around Bush who testify where his heart is, including that of my own pastor. And charlie, that statement about Afghanistan is really unfair. Why do you think our President was sided with the Muslims in Afghanistan? Could it be because the Soviet Union had just invaded their country perhaps? News flash: since the mid 20th century (until the collapse of the Soviet Union?) we have had a policy to condemn and contain Communism. Yes bin Laden was among those fighting for Afghanistan, but so what? We didn't know he was going to take on a crusade against the United States and it would be unfair to suggest that we should have (not that you said or even believe this, just so I'm clear that I'm not putting words into your mouth). And today, isn't Afganistan run by their own government? Okay, I'm as much in the dark as you, but here is an interesting article from March that I found in an internet search.
  22. You know, I'm beginning to think that whether we act by order of free will or predestination doesn't matter. Correct me if I'm wrong but this is sounding like one of those old Earth/young Earth arguments in that it doesn't really matter which you believe to be correct as long as Christ is first in your life. I'm not one to look for signs of predestination as I believe the Calvinists did (still do?), so I will live my life as if the decision to accept Jesus Christ is mine and once I have chosen (I have) I will try to live a Christian life (still working on that- I am heavily struggling with passivity and all that entails like praying but not trying to change, procrastination, etc... However that's another topic). Whether my choices are due to predestination or not I will never know so why should it matter as long as I try to live for Christ?
  23. Well, so much for Oprah being one of the "good ones" as my mother always says when comparing her to Jerry Springer, Ricki Lake, Jenny Jones, etc. Maybe she was at one time but this kind of episode shows she isn't all that much different now from those sensationalists. But then, I think she watches Dr. Phil more these days rather than Oprah.
  24. I just realized a way that third parties could be given a chance more likely than the other two ways above. All it would take is for the media to recognize them and give them coverage. Once people see the media treating them on an equal level with the two major parties, maybe they will see them on an equal level as well (the mass hypnosis I was talking about?) and truly consider them. But why has the media not done this? They would seem the type to do it if anybody would. Perhaps in general they are sided with one of the major parties and like legislators wouldn't want to see things change? Thoughts?
  25. Frankly I don't think it would have mattered if they did start way back when. The two-party system is so ingrained in our society that all third parties can hope for is a little federal funding if they get enough votes. Sure, if one got it year after year then maybe they can put up a fight in several decades. The only thing, IMO, that can change thing is some legislation that puts these third parties on even footing with Dems and Repubs. That or some sort of mass hypnosis that changes all people's two-party thinking. However, the mass hypnosis is just not going to happen and, unfortunately legislation is not much more likely since the Dems and Repubs would have to vote to lose power and have less of a chance come election day. Pigs will grow wings and fly before that happens.
