  1. UMM Moses didn't live 900 years. Deuteronomy 34:5-7 So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD. And he buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, over against Bethpeor: but no man knoweth of his sepulchre unto this day. And Moses was an hundred and twenty years old when he died: his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated. Were you talking about Noah? Remember he predated every nation you mentioned. The only civilization that there was, was the one he was starting and it has given us it's record of him. Scripture has one purpose, to bring mankind to the knowledge of Jesus so they can be saved. It's not a science book or a history book, it is a book that will lead us to eternal life.
  2. Not sure what you mean by this i.e Psalms are not for theology. I would imagine they are full of statements with literal meaning and explain God very well, NO? Greg. There are many things in poetry that should not be taken literally is what I think is being said. We all know the term poetic license. That being said the psalmists used the poetic license to illustrate perfectly the principles that the Holy Spirit wish them to illustrate. We need to be careful in saying "poetic language" is "not to be used for literally for theology." Most of the prophets wrote in poetry. The Bible is full of poetry, we don't see it because we are not reading in the original language. Usually whenever we see scripture indented in our Bibles, it poetry. Getting back on topic, what does Hebrews 11:39-40 mean, in the context it was written in?
  3. ANNE WORTHAM Anne Wortham is Associate Professor of Sociology at Illinois State University and continuing Visiting Scholar at Stanford University 's Hoover Institution. She is a member of the American Sociological Association and the American Philosophical Association. She has been a John M. Olin Foundation Faculty Fellow, and honored as a Distinguished Alumni of the Year by the Nation al Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education. In fall 1988 she was one of a select group of intellectuals who were featured in Bill Moyer's television series, "A World of Ideas." The transcript of her conversation with Moyers has been published in his book, A World of Ideas. Dr. Wortham is author of "The Other Side of Racism: A Philosophical Study of Black Race Consciousness" which analyzes how race consciousness is transformed into political strategies and policy issues. She has published numerous articles on the implications of individual rights for civil rights policy, and is currently writing a book on theories of social and cultural marginality. Recently, she has published articles on the significance of multiculturalism and Afrocentricism in education, the politics of victimization and the social and political impact of political correctness. Shortly after an interview in 2004, she was awarded tenure. This article by her is something. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ___________________________________________________________ Fellow Americans, Please know: I am Black; I grew up in the segregated South. I did not vote for Barack Obama; I wrote in Ron Paul's name as my choice for president. Most importantly, I am not race conscious. I do not require a Black president to know that I am a person of worth, and that life is worth living. I do not require a Black president to love the ideal of America . I cannot join you in your celebration. I feel no elation. There is no smile on my face. I am not jumping with joy. There are no tears of triumph in my eyes. For such emotions and behavior to come from me, I would have to deny all that I know about the requirements of human flourishing and survival - all that I know about the history of the United States of America , all that I know about American race relations, and all that I know about Barack Obama as a politician. I would have to deny the nature of the "change" that Obama asserts has come to America . Most importantly, I would have to abnegate my certain understanding that you have chosen to sprint down the road to serfdom that we have been on for over a century. I would have to pretend that individual liberty has no value for the success of a human life. I would have to evade your rejection of the slender reed of capitalism on which your success and mine depend. I would have to think it somehow rational that 94 percent of the 12 million Blacks in this country voted for a man because he looks like them (that Blacks are permitted to play the race card), and that they were joined by self-declared "progressive" whites who voted for him because he doesn't look like them.. I would have to wipe my mind clean of all that I know about the kind of people who have advised and taught Barack Obama and will fill posts in his administration - political intellectuals like my former colleagues at the Harvard University 's Kennedy School of Government. I would have to believe that "fairness" is equivalent of justice. I would have to believe that a man who asks me to "go forward in a new spirit of service, in a new service of sacrifice" is speaking in my interest.. I would have to accept the premise of a man that economic prosperity comes from the "bottom up," and who arrogantly believes that he can will it into existence by the use of government force. I would have to admire a man who thinks the standard of living of the masses can be improved by destroying the most productive and the generators of wealth. Finally, Americans, I would have to erase from my consciousness the scene of 125,000 screaming, crying, cheering people in Grant Park, Chicago irrationally chanting "Yes We Can!" Finally, I would have to wipe all memory of all the times I have heard politicians, pundits, journalists, editorialists, bloggers and intellectuals declare that capitalism is dead - and no one, including especially Alan Greenspan, objected to their assumption that the particular version of the anti-capitalistic mentality that they want to replace with their own version of anti-capitalism is anything remotely equivalent to capitalism. So you have made history, Americans. You and your children have elected a Black man to the office of the president of the United States , the wounded giant of the world. The battle between John Wayne and Jane Fonda is over - and that Fonda won. Eugene McCarthy and George McGovern must be very happy men. Jimmie Carter, too. And the Kennedys have at last gotten their Kennedy look-a-like. The self-righteous welfare statists in the suburbs can feel warm moments of satisfaction for having elected a Black person. So, toast yourselves: 60s countercultural radicals, 80s yuppies and 90s bourgeois bohemians. Toast yourselves, BlackAmerica. Shout your glee Harvard, Princeton , Yale, Duke, Stanford, and Berkeley. You have elected not an individual who is qualified to be president, but a Black man who, like the pragmatist Franklin Roosevelt, promises to - Do Something! You now have someone who has picked up the baton of Lyndon Johnson's Great Society. But you have also foolishly traded your freedom and mine - what little there is left - for the chance to feel good. There is nothing in me that can share your happy obliviousness. God Help Us all...

  5. Demographic problems Edit links* This is an excellent video that shows the effect of the Muslim population growth. This one is very long but it is a complete education on Islam and how violent it is. Edit Links*
  6. Good post
  7. Not a once saved always saved person either. Why did Paul write, "1 Corinthians 15:2 By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain." What about those who do not hold firmly to the word? Jesus said, "Matthew 10:22 All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved." What about those who do not stand firm? "James 2:14 What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him?" What about those whose faith does not produce good deeds? It's those scriptures that make me agree with Lady C
  8. Can they still repent? Of course, as long as they draw breath. Yep. We see that throughout Israel's history. All the prophets begged Israel and Judah to repent to the end.
  9. Amen. As another person wrote "Paul was the first apologist" Some will be saved solely by us saying "Repent and be Baptized", others take more convincing. Apologetics are nothing more that another way to spread the gospel.
  10. This has always been my opinion. And well stated as well.
  11. Why, hr.jr. would you trust someone who merely has a heart for it? I have a heart for medicine but have not yet been to medical school. Mind if i perform surgery on you? No? Why not? I have a heart for it. There are doctors with MD's that have left tools in patients and have fumbled the most minor of precedures, and have no love for medicine. I think its a pastors responsibility to know everything there is to know about the subject he or she is teaching. How foolish are we to entrust our minds to someone who merely has a heart for it. Without knowledge how can we learn. I agree their heart needs to be in the right place. Lets not deprioritize knowledge. The problem with what you say is, surgeons do not have the Holy Spirit to guide them and counsel them.
  12. I'd like to address this one sentence. In times when you feel disconnected, you must tell yourself it's not about feelings it's about faith. Keep praying and praising until your Joy returns. He does not withdraw from you, ever. In times like these I like to read to read the 23rd and 51st Psalms. And them lift them up as prayers to the Lord. Father we praise you and we thank you Lord that you are always present. Create in us new hearts Father. Increase our faith in you. We Praise you Jesus. Amen
  13. Well buddy, you asked for opinions. Look, do what you want. It's a harmless idea that and I reckon every church in America has pens and calendars and tracts, etc., so go for it. I'm not the enemy here and I really don't want to be a wet blanket. The old maxim is true, without regard to the Scriptures you (mis)applied, "Early to bed, early to rise, work like heck and advertise." The bad thing about typing a response is that you aren't able to see me smile or hear the tone of my voice. I only meant to make the point that with God all things are possible. Peace in Christ.
  14. I pray your efforts will be blessed. God is able to use anything to advance His Kingdom. He was able to use a talking donkey, certainly He is able to use secular radio, pens or as Jesus said even rocks. If you think about it, doesn't the same faith that flowed through the prophets, apostles and all the saints before us, flow through us? Isn't our faith unshakable? I mean think about it we are children of the CREATOR. AMEN
  15. I would love to get a great bible tract. Have you seen this video? I Got Off at George Street I want to do this simple yet efective type of witnessing, and would love to a good tract to use. I want to thank you and everyone else for your prayers, encouragement and suggestions. I praise Jesus for each and everyone of you guys. Please continue praying for us.
  16. 15 Members , thats 3 more than Christ had. WHy are numbers important? To be honest You dont have to resort to gimmicks. Did Paul , Peter, John etc go around handing out pens with "Jesus Loves You" etc on them? Did they go around giving out T Shirts with Jesus Is My Saviour etc written on them? NO. Please let me explain. We are not using the pens to substitute our face to face witnessing which we pray we are able to with every word we speak and every action we take. We are putting something out there that hopefully will make somebody think, somebody who we may have never have had the opportunity to speak to. If just one of a thousand pens prompts one soul to be saved then we are blessed. This is just the first of many things we will do. We are not able to touch a cloth so that it can be taken to somebody far away to be healed. We can't walk past somebody and have our shadow fall on them and them be healed. (Acts chap 5&19) The Lord has not yet blessed us with the ability to use these types of miraculous "gimmicks". So until then we will use the simple ink pen and what ever other "gimmick" that, through prayer and petition to God the Creator, we think of. Thank you for you other suggestions. Peace in Christ.
  17. Thanks for your comments and the link. I guess I should have said that we are not interested in building our church membership, only His Kingdom. We'll never know who our pens have reached until, as Kat8585 said we are in Heaven.
  18. That will work for us.
  19. I attend a small house church in Clinton, Tn. We feel the desire to tell the world about Jesus, but, that seems like a tall order for a house church with about 15 memebers. So we started praying for ideas. I've pasted below what we are going to do. Please pray for us and give us your ideas. God is good. We are getting ink pens printed with "Excuse me please. Are you saved? If you die tomorrow will you go to heaven? ?????.com" (we don't have a domain name secured yet) Every week the people who go to our church will take five pens with them and will leave them places. For instance write the bank deposit and leave the pen on the counter. Leave the pen on the table at your favorite restaraunt. Drop one in somebody's purse. Leave them lying all over the UT campus. We feel the Holy Spirit will do the bulk of our work, such as leading us to where we should leave the pens. As the pens pens travel from hand to hand as these pens will, the Spirit will make certain that short message makes it to the right persons. Where we need help is wording our web page and most importantly prayer for wisdom and guidance? We want a simple explanation of the "why and how" of salvation without using any Church lingo. Something short, true and to the point? Something that a person with no church background and a short attention span can read and believe. We'll will have a link where they can find a Christian church in their area. Hopefully we can help expand the Kingdom of God. The Spirit will lead somebody here or somewhere to write the perfect paragraph. Once we get our webpage up and running we hope Christ followers all over the world will get a few pens printed and that they'll feel welcome to use our page. Thank you in advance for your prayers and ideas. May His will be done, He is worthy of all honor and praise.
