I am currently seeking a church to attend and have a couple questions I'd like your opinions about. First, I want to find a church that really studies the bible and the word as it is written. With that in mind, what questions should I ask a potential pastor/teacher to find out what his views and his churhes views are on different bible topics? What questions should I ask to find out if they have liberal leanings and whatnot? Your help on this is greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Celticman,

I don't know that I would look for a church and 'interview' the pastor about the teachings, etc. It may give you more insight to talk to friends in your community for whom you have trust and respect and who are Christians and visit their churches. I think it's always a good idea to speak to the pastor but also - the people who pray there. Visit some new churches - I think you can get a better feel for finding a church home by actually experiencing the service, fellow congregants, the message, music, etc. Blessings to you and I pray you find a place that brings peace to your heart and spirit.

A lot of churches, mine does, have a statement of faith that people can look at when deciding if the specific church is one they would want to relate to. Does the church have a web page, if so have a look at it.

Oh, and what Believer1997 said in her post........ Good advice!

I'm not sure that is necessary.. why not just attend 2-3 Sundays and see what they are about. A church lead by a false teacher or false prophet isn't going to be exactly forthcoming with the truth.

I say just attend and look for warning signs... here are a couple

1. Does the spirit of the Lord tell you it's not the right church?

2. They dont teach about the Bible

3. Money is a big focus (your money)

4. How they treat you the newcomer - with warm welcome or with suspicious eyes?

5. Is Jesus the focus of their messages?

Heavenly Father, praying for celticman to find the right church, and that he may be an instrument of Your peace every day. Amen.

Thanks to all of your for your advice...it will be a good education for me to get out and just attend as see what I find. I don't know anyone in the area so it will be hard for me to talk with friends there since I don't have any. However, I will attend a service or 3 and see what comes form it. And, of course, as God to direct my steps to the right place.

Thanks again!
