Memories can't be erased.

It's what you do about them this speaks of.

"Keeping no record of" means not holding them against the person.

Is this verse referring to God's love or man's love or both?

Nebula I couldn't have said this better if I had tried. Thank you for posting this. I completely and 100% totally agree with the original statement. We are commanded to love everyone and that is going to be extremely hard to do if we can't forgive them for the hurtful things they have done to us. It's hard to love someone who has hurt you in any way but we are called to do just that.

agape..

1Co 13:4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant

1Co 13:5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;

1Co 13:6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.

ESV... the most liberal translation I read...

and that is a good point...

I fall way short of His perfect love ... but see it on occasion.. :emot-questioned:

I know what you mean One - Amen to memory loss!!!

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boaast, it is not proud. 1 Corinthians 13: 4

Love is like vessels of the spiritual body, which helps function in a healthy, amicable, courteous, gentle, good-natured, gracious, polite way.

We as Christians must live on a higher level and return good for evil. This demands love, our first thought is to fight back. It also demands faith, believing that God can work and succeed His will in our lives and in the lives of those who have hurt us. We need to pray and ask God for love as we try to show kindness to our enemies.

I am still and will always be growing spiritually. I can say that I am a more loving and thoughtful and less selfish person than I used to be. I praise God for that!!!

Jane

The OP just pasted a Bible verse. I don't think anyone is saying that at all sis :blink::emot-heartbeat:

I am really trying to make a point ..and I am pushing to make it because I believe it is important..

thanks for the hugs sweetie ...

what I am after is to say it is not possible except for God's intervention in our minds (or some traumatic situation) for us to forget wrongs done to us even though we have forgiven completely or even not forgiven and need too...

the new translation (keep no record of wrong) would probably lead you to think to yourself "oh my, I remember that wrong ..I must be bad.."

No No no..... that is what I am trying to get across...

It is important to read and interpret correctly...

if I don't I could spend years hating myself because I cannot make myself come in to that place I believe I should be...

all with good intentions but wrong premise...

as I said earlier and nebula also said ... we are not to start making a list of wrongs done to us...nothing at all to do with forgetting it happened...

I do believe the statement "forgive and forget' can very much be a stumbling for many who cannot forget although they have forgiven..

1Co 13:4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant

1Co 13:5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;

1Co 13:6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.

:laugh:

Ok... I will get down now and see you all later..

Ecclesiastes 1:9

9 What has been will be again,

what has been done will be done again;

there is nothing new under the sun.
