On 8 June, 1783, the young country of Iceland - inhabited for just 750 years - had a population of 50,000. In the coming years, as a result of what began that Sunday morning at 9am, 10,000 of those people would die. The Laki eruption is the worst catastrophe in the country's relatively short history. Laki is a volcanic system in the same south-eastern part of Iceland where this week's eruption took place. But that's where the similarities end. . . . I wonder if the meteor seen over the Midwest was actually a rock being thrown from this volcano? If God is behind it, then ANYTHING is possible. I know everyone here has noticed the earthquakes, meteors and volcanic eruptions on an almost daily basis lately. The powers that be can say there's been no increase all they like....but there has been and I do believe these things are precursers to what is to come. It wasnt this bad after 9 / 11 ...some flights still went ahead then here, despite cloudless skies #9 that we can see ) NO flights in or out

The Kenyan fresh flower industry is on it's knees, they rely on flying roses out daily to Europe, so imagine the other financial ramification of this ash cloud. It is really, really serious. What I find amazing is that this volcano erupted under 200 m of ice. it must be an awesome thing to watch happening.

Ladypeartree lives in Great Britain. 9/11 affected American air travel (all flights canceled), not European (other than flights to and from America). Iceland is already bankrupt and this disaster is just a piling on of misery for them. And, just like back then, this eruption appears to have global consequences.
