Since when does "all" not mean "all"? : :noidea:

Because a more literal translation would say "All the land." At that time there was no concept of planet Earth, so the writer(s) of Genesis wouldn't record it as such.

There's another debate about this in another thread ("Was the flood literal" or something like that). This would be a better place for the discussion so as not to hijack this thread any further.

But I was just pointing out the argument to answer your question.

Well you know Job and his friends knew the earth was circular and that is the oldest book in the bible...

There is a HUGE difference between circular and spherical. There is absolutely no indication in the text, or context, that Job knew the earth was a round sphere.

Why are you being so technical? Might I remind you Pauls words

2 Timothy 2:14

Remind everyone about these things, and command them in God's presence to stop fighting over words. Such arguments are useless, and they can ruin those who hear them.

As for what the Bible says about the Earth.. read for yourself..

Isaiah 40:22 (New American Standard Bible)

22 It is He who sits above the circle of the earth,

And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers,

Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain

And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.

Job 26:10 (New American Standard Bible)

10 "He has inscribed a circle on the surface of the waters

At the boundary of light and darkness.

These 2 statements are very telling.

At that time there was no concept of planet Earth, so the writer(s) of Genesis wouldn't record it as such.

There is absolutely no indication in the text, or context, that Job knew the earth was a round sphere.

OK, the report came from a message board, so I tried to find the original source.

I found this

Please be sure to read this, too.

Well then....I guess we just need to wait until the test results are in.
