I'm not sure yet what I think of it. Cool or creepy? I have lost a lot of loved ones in my life and have often wondered about ways to memorialize all of them. I'm just not sure this would work for me, even if I could afford it! Make Diamonds From the Remains of Your Loved Ones

I heard from a friend today of a most unusual funeral she attended several months back... I have been to weddings where there was a little basket of individually wrapped birdseed to throw at the bride and groom upon their departure ... (instead of rice). My friend told me of the memorial service she went to where there were little packages in baskets at the back of the church and everyone was asked to take one and take it to a special place and sprinkle the contents ... which were the ashes of the deceased. I was stunned by this - I have never heard of this happening....

The couple they interviewed lost their daughter and had her ashes turned into 2 diamonds that they had set into their wedding rings. I did find it kinda sweet when the woman said that if someone tells her the diamond is beautiful she says, "Yes, she is." It's an interesting notion. I just can't imagine having my mother, father, sister, or mother-in-law dug up and cremated years after their deaths just so I could wear a piece of jewelry made from them. I'm far more likely to get one of those "Mother's Rings" with the multiple gemstones in it for each child's birthday. I've considered doing that for my family. As for the little bags of ashes at the funeral mentioned earlier, well, that probably wouldn't actually shock me all that much. Presumably, the family, or maybe even the deceased, wanted everyone they loved and who loved them to share in the passage. I've always kinda felt weird about the scattering of ashes. But then, it also seems a little morbid to keep the remains of someone you love sitting in a jar on a shelf somewhere in your house. Pretty much the only thing I know for sure is that I don't want an open casket service. I'd rather my family and friends remember how I looked when I was alive. Just my opinion. My grandfather wanted to be buried at sea, his ashes scattered far out to sea. My uncle, who could not get anyone on a small boat to take him out, hired a small Cessna aircraft and had the pilot fly him a few miles out. He opened the side window (if you know the plane you know it hinges upwards and can be opened six inches or so in flight), we do it when we take aerial photo's. He landed about 20 minutes later, and the family members waiting for him were greeted by him and the pilot exiting the plane covered in a fine grey dust. The interior of the plane took hours to vacuum. The pilot thought he was going to throw the box out, not scatter the ashes
