I was wondering when this would come up. I personally have no issue with privately funded "green" measures. I purchase a lot of private "green" measures myself, such as electricity and hot water. I just think it's a companies own business what "green" measures they get involved in. I am happy with an electronic version of yellow pages and rarely if ever use my paper copy. But that isn't the point. If yellow pages were smart they would have done this years ago to market themselves at the forefront of the green revolution, being proactive, but now they just appear to be reactive to the government.

I agree it would be a good measure for YP to take. But it smells like government intrusion into private business to me. As you hinted at, will they do the same with junk mail now?

Yepp it does sound like government intrusion. This seems like a very small and honest evolution out of a useless paper product. But all the "small" things tend to set a precedent....then its all dowhill from there. Did that make sense?

Yes, that does make sense .

I really don't mind being responsible with my footprint, we do a lot of recycling, buying second hand, green power, veggie garden, solar hot water etc. But I like it being my own decision.

My first thought, with respect to the "slippery slope" knock on effect of the government wanting to control these private company policies, was the car industry. Oh well, sign of the times.
