That one city alone is roughly 30% unemployed, due to the closure of the Pontiac Division of General Motors. So the fact that the national rate has risen doesn't surprise me. I've been out of work for 2 years now, and it doesn't look like (there for the grace of YHWH) it will change any time soon. a.

The US has some of the lowest tax revenue as a percentage of GDP among industrialized nations.

This on the inevitable fruit of Socialism. Just look at England where 14% permanent unemployment is now the accepted norm. The current occupant of the White House (emoch shemoh) HATES America. That is why he and his evil minions are doing everything they can get away with (with the help of a complicit media) to devastate the weal of the people. Which may well explain why our economy isn't utterly devastated like most every (very socialistic) economy in Europe. Thank you for proving Adam Smith's point. Around 7.4%, just without a dramatically higher 'real' unemployment rate. In my province, it's about 5.6%. A difference of 1.8% in the unemployment rate in the US would mean about another +5,400,000 jobs in America. If those jobs matched the median income in America of about $46,000 dollars, that would mean another $250 Billion cycling through the economy, and at least another $20 Billion or so in tax revenue.
