ACORN Playing Behind Scenes Role in 'Occupy' Movement

Published October 26, 2011

Image: Oct. 17, 2011: Members of New York Communities for Change, in orange t-shirts with orange banner, attend a press conference in New York with union leaders, including United Federation of Teachers president Michael Mulgrew.

The former New York office for ACORN, the disbanded community activist group, is playing a key role in the self-proclaimed “leaderless” Occupy Wall Street movement, organizing “guerrilla” protest events and hiring door-to-door canvassers to collect money under the banner of various causes while spending it on protest-related activities, sources tell FoxNews.com.

The former director of New York ACORN, Jon Kest, and his top aides are now busy working at protest events for New York Communities for Change (NYCC). That organization was created in late 2009 when some ACORN offices disbanded and reorganized under new names after undercover video exposes prompted Congress to cut off federal funds.

NYCC’s connection to ACORN isn’t a tenuous one: It works from the former ACORN offices in Brooklyn, uses old ACORN office stationery, employs much of the old ACORN staff and, according to several sources, engages in some of the old organization’s controversial techniques to raise money, interest and awareness for the protests.

Sources said NYCC has hired about 100 former ACORN-affiliated staff members from other cities – paying some of them $100 a day - to attend and support Occupy Wall Street. Dozens of New York homeless people recruited from shelters are also being paid to support the protests, at the rate of $10 an hour, the sources said.

At least some of those hired are being used as door-to-door canvassers to collect money that’s used to support the protests.

Yes, I posted that information on Oct 15th

Do you see it mentioned in the news when they cover this?

the silence in our media is deafening. Don't forget that NBC was the biggest recipient of so-called "stimulus" money (political payback known as bribes) and haven't paid taxes at all.

Does anyone really believe that the rich people are going to pay more in taxes? If so, you are a doofus being played. They might rob a bunch of them, but it will be the middle class (villified by these mobs for being "richer") pitted against the lower economic classes to keep us all divided from standing up to the real source of the the problem. Once they can turn you into a victim, the next step is to make you a perpetrator. This is how they have ALREADY raised a standing army with ACORN, SEIU, and the thousands of networked organizations funded by your tax money, stupid capitalist.

The media isn't silent, they are just painting a different picture. Of course they won't mention this rolleyes.gif.

I sincerely hope the rich don't pay more taxes, you'd have to be a baffoon in economics to think that would solve the financial problems we see. It is one sure way to dry up jobs and increase prices though rolleyes.gif.

These clowns are going to MAGNIFY the gap between the rich and poor if they have their way, which they won't.

I woke up this morning with the OWS situation on my mind, and it makes me angry that the Saul Alinsky bunch are systematically stealing our country right out from under us.

We need an organized prayer chain country wide to restore us under the shadow of God.

Psalm 91

1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

Perhaps I should explain something - everyone is supposed to pay more in taxes, because the Bush tax cuts are set to expire, and we have a deficit to pay down. But the richest 1% of the population wants a different tax scheme so that they can get out of paying their share of the deficit. If their taxes don't go up, then the rest of us will pay even more than we were going to have to. That's the problem.

Tax increases aren't going to fix the deficit... tax increases will reduce employment levels and drive up prices... you will have less working individuals to tax, and people will have less money to buy the goods supporting the jobs. It's really not a great idea. Reducing tax stimulates job growth and spending ...

That is not true. Increasing taxes in a recession is the exact wrong thing to do. You will only cause people to lose their jobs through lay-offs. We already have the highest unemployment we have had in decades and paying more in taxes will only exacerbate the problem.

Lower taxes and create more jobs and you will raise revenue without taxing people to death. Get rid of the waste and fraud in social security and welfare, stop paying for programs that are useless, redundant and no longer necessary and put that money on the debt. It is really is very simple. Raising taxes never works. You don't tax your way into prosperity.

Tell you what, Assured. If you and others dont feel like you are paying enough in taxes, then why don't you sit down and write the government a check each month for what you feel is the right amount for you to pay over and above the taxes you already pay??? Why don't you lead the way and voluntarily send in more of your money to the government than what they are currently taking from you, since you feel that is the answer?
