The Maccabees took a stand, they were told to give up Gods ways or die, they chose to fight and die for Him instead of giving in. It was also a delayed celebration of Sukkot, Feast of Tabernacles, delayed till they fought and cleansed the temple. The story of the oil really is a story not true though. It also has prophetic symbolance in it as well. shalom, Mizz

Please explain. Its not in the historical account of the revolt written by Josephus, it is not in the Maccabees account either and we know those have such horrible detailed accounts of things, the story comes directly from the Talmud and no where else, the sages heard a 'story' and embellished on that. That does not discount the miracle of Gods intervention in their lives or the rededication of the temple. When they refused to bow to the greek gods or to anyone but their God, that they would not obey anyones authority but Gods, He gave them their victory. The miracle is the hearts of those people and most importantly who God brought them out of bondage once again.
