I must admit I am torn on this issue, so I would appreciate some opinions AND scripture, since I want this to be scriptural, not only opinion.

The Bible seems pretty clear that the ONLY justification for a divorce is sexual immorality in the marriage. However what about wives that are beaten and abused by their husbands, or a wife, whose husband is in prison for life, etc. There are other examples, but I think you get the point.

So my obvious question is this.

Do you think God would allow a divorce for reasons other than sexual immorality in today's society?

Short answer, Yes.

To think God would want someone to stay in a marriage where the person is being physically abused just sounds out of character with the God in the Bible.

Atleast the One that I read about.

Depending on the translation, it says "unfaithfulness."

Abusing one's spouse is unfaithfulness.

Just as nebula has said, all that is just unfaithfulness. When a man fails to do what is commanded, which is to love his wife sacrificially, as Jesus loves His Church, then that is an abandonment or abdication of his vows and falls under unfaithfulness.
