Good question-the answer is we dont, but neither did most of the israelites at the time. Hindsight is 20/20 its easy to look back and see why, especially when its written down. We cant see the big picture we dont even know exactly what Gods doing in our lives half the time. But we do know God has a plan-and I think sometimes that includes war. You say how do u know that Gods calling to war-well I say how do you know He doesnt. The answer is without knowing Gods will in the big picture, neither of us can answer that question with 100% certainty

How true that is. Sometimes we think we are doing what He wants only to find out we have missed the mark by a huge margain. I do think that one day perhaps sooner than we know He will call upon His body to fight with Him. I think about the verse that shows Messiah coming from Edom with blood on the bottom of His robe. As well as the many verses that speak of fighting and wonder how thats all going to play out.

shalom,

Mizz

@ jason It doesnt matter whether the "war" was legal or not, it doesnt negate what the men at the alamo did. Also, as far as it being an "illegal" war a good portion of it up to the point of the alamo, wasnt even fought by US Soldiers, but by texans rebelling against Mexican authority as it was part of Mexico. That was no different then the original 13 colonies rebelling against England. Thirdly, Lincoln had no real say in the matter about Texas-he wasn't even the president, the president at the time was Andrew Jackson.

Patriot, you are absolutely right, the Texans (not the USA) battle against Mexico was no different then the thirteen original colonies fighting for our freedom from England. I don't even think the United States Government had a sworn in soldier in the fight. The United States didn't annex Texas until nine years after the war was over, Texas wasn't annexed to the USA until December 29, 1845.

However Mexico didn't recognize the sovereignty of Texas and threaten that annexation of Texas to the USA would be an act of war. So when the USA annexed Texas on December 29, 1845, it was "Here we go again".

If it weren't for men and women over the past 200+ years with the same fortitude as those that gave it all at the Alamo, the United States wouldn't be what it is today. The sad thing is, there are fewer and fewer people each year, that are willing to give it all for God an Country. (This will be the Waterloo for the USA)
