Pills alone are not the answer. Is there an endless therapy?

A physician will arrive at a diagnosis from the bias provided by his medical training. A psychologist will do the same, as will a psychiatrist. Drug companies deliberately avoided first approaching mental health specialists with these meds knowing they would hesitate to prescribe in the quantities that a medical doctor will. When a parent, or other, requests something from the medical doctor to quash the distressing symptoms of a child's culturally caused behavior disfunction, they indulge a conspiracy to derail the future of the child by denying them a normal stimulus to learning GOOD HABITS of self control. I suggest that the greater percentage of people on these meds should not be on them...and certainly not for the extended timeframes revealed in doctor reports.

Public dialog is vital to this very important issue. Many people take too much for granted and fail to become involved as they should be.

I welcome responses to this and comments...

What is YOUR experience?

Thanks.

Greetings,

I agree. I am often reminded of: "When the Son of Man returns shall He find faith?"

But who am I to talk, I take so many meds and supplements, I consider myself one of the biggest druggies of them all.

Blessings,

Dad Ernie

I don't think the pills are a good long-term suppliment at all. However, for a short term, they're perfect. Sometimes certain events can cause chemical reactions within the brain to occur so that the brain is not thinking clearly. It's easy to say "place your faith in God", unfortunately sometimes these chemical imbalances cause us from even doing something so "simple" as that. Thus pills are sometimes needed in these circumstances for a short-term recovery plan.

Anti-anxiety pills should only be used in a hospital setting IMHO. Of all the drugs out there, benzodiazepines ( anti-anxiety meds like Valium, Xanax, etc. ) are by far the most hard & painful drug ( street or prescription ) to come off from once one gets addicted to them ( not if but when ). I'd always look for alternatives to this class of drug....they are always bad news :D

God bless,

Bob

I am one of those who takes daily medication to be able to function in day to day activities. For years I would pray to God to lift my depression and anxiety attacks with no "YES" in the near future. I have had people say "You dont have enough faith in Him and that is why you still struggle with it" and "Taking those meds are just driving you deeper into what Jesus wants to save you from". The way I look at it is that there is a reason why He has not healed me. God doesn't give us anything we cant handle, but that doesn't mean we may not need assistense from a doctor. Everything happens for a reason. My life has not been an easy one and it has also shaped the person I am today, with the Lord's help. Who knows maybe He has my past (abuse), present (medication) and future (helping/healing) as a way to reach others who struggle just like I have.

All I know is that I can now go out of my house and go in a store, school, even church now without getting sick to my stomach, literally. My first month in college was spent half in class and the other half in the bathroom. For me, medication has been the door to living life for our Father.

Any health care provider worth hiring will consider the WHOLE picture about the patient's illness and will collaborate with other specialists needed to secure the BEST practice toward the patient's RECOVERY. Physicians who work alone without appropriate consults with psychologists ignore the fact that all biological reactions have a psychological/behavioral element that must be included in the treatment matrix. There are too many unscrupulous Dr.s out there to give unqualified trust to someone just because they wear a white coat. Every patient needs to check out their doctor. Too much is at risk to wing it on a prayer without some real wise activity to review credentials. State license boards can tell you if about complaints that may have been filed about a particular doctor and if they have been run out of another state because of malpractise. Everyone should become involved in this quality control function. Pray! Then check them out real closely...

Parents who resort to over use of pills to manage the reasonable conducts of their children who grow in response to normal stressors... should question if they should parent this child. Give the child up for adoption and commend it to the care of God who will find someone to love it appropriately. Pills and television and abundance of toys do not replace the loving interaction of a mother and a father. Children need BOTH to grow into any semblance of normal adulthood.

Hooking a child on pills while they are developing risks life long problems due to retarded brain/emotional/social development.

Parents: Give your child what they deserve... Give them YOUR prayerful interaction instead of telling them to ... "Go take your medication."

YES! Pharmacology for adults (bi-polar, etc) can save the day! God provides what is absent to help people function normally... Diabetics need insulin and God inspired doctors to provide insulin factor by prescription. This is a BLESSING of science by the Grace of God. NO! NEVER condemn someone for resorting to medical care to get what they need to survive. The critics who say "If you REALLY had faith you would be well..." are CRUEL beyond belief. Faith is needed to grant these brutal individuals Grace for repentence and for enlightenment for their ignorance about realities and the proper place/function of Faith.

Blessings!

hmmm, are you talking about the over use of ridalin for ADD?

btw Roota, my apologies for leaving out long term patients. I forgot that sometimes there are chemical imbalances that can cause this for a person's entire life. I think i most cases it's temporary, however some require long-term and even permanent usage.

I say this all the while looking in my desk at the Lexipro packet the doctor gave me a few months ago. So please, do not think I am judgemental of people who use pills for depression or anxiety.

This is just my opinion. You don't have to accept it if you dislike it. DISCLAIMER: I am not a christian.

Back in my parents' day, psychiatric patients who had long term illnesses were relegated to full frontal lobotomies. I think drugs is a better option.

I do not believe that just because I have a perscription for wellbutrin and take it daily makes me a big sinner. I have had much stress and depression in my lifetime. I was grouchy and angry most of the time for years. My present Dr perscribed it to help with my moods and depression. It helps a great deal. I am now much happier and focused and much easier to live with and get along with. I feel better about myself. So...is it not a sin to be be unkind to others, and if this medication helps me be a kinder and more understanding wife/mother/daughter/friend is that not a better path for all involved? God knows my heart.

i would like to add, however, that I am opposed to redlin if possibe to avoid it. My reasons are these. I know personally 4 individuals that were put on it as children because they were"hyperactive". They all contiued this medication throughout their childhood. Their parents said they were out of control. Their teachers complained of behavior problems. They were grounded or spanked or being punished for bad behavior at school, detentions ect all of the time. All 4 were males. meaning nothing really, except that i think males are more active children anyway. All 4 have had drug depencies as adults. None hold down jobs worth having and none can cope with relationships at all. They all are very slow tlking, unmotivated and seem tired all of the time. I think the drugs they use are a result of needing the constant downers all the time that redlin gave them as children. I also feel that the parents were responsible to keep these children disciplined at a very young age rather than to wait until they were already "out of control" at school age. I raised 2 sons and a teacher tried to tell me my oldest had ADD because she could not keep him focused. Turned out...he was bored because he was being retaught things he already had learned. Redlin would not have helped that.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
