One says : The Laws of the Old Testament had meaning for situations people faced in that time period. Leviticus 19:28 is in reference to pagan mourning and humiliation practices. It was a law to keep the Israelites from imitating pagan practices that would dishonor God. Basically it was God's way of say, "Hey, you don't have to do these crazy things to earn my favor." However, times have changed and we no longer need to worry about a lot of those things. It's up to you and God. I have tattoos myself and I believe God doesn't really mind. And this is the other: We are not under the laws of Leviticus and the OT. We are under GRACE. And we have liberty in Jesus. And "the body is the temple" is, in context, only referring to avoiding things like idolatry and sexual sins. It is NOT referring to smoking, or tattoos, or piercings.
