Isn't it reasons like this for why all the first world nations disarmed most of their nuclear weapons, many years ago. Back in the 50's, 60's and 70's, Hollywood played with the idea that nuclear fallout could produce monsters, or super heroes. But I think by the time the 1980's got here, we knew that nuclear fallout can only cause sickness, disease, or a terrible disruption of the delicate ecosystem of the Earth.

So granted this occurred from an accident resulting from an earthquake, but it underscores why we need to prevent middle Eastern countries, like Iran, from developing and possessing nuclear weapons they can use. It takes intelligence and wisdom to not use nuclear weapons. My generation grew up seriously worried that a nuclear war could happen any day. Now it's happening again. I don't know what, if anything, can be done about the danger of nuclear fallout, world wide. But if anything can be done, it should be done. Especially in the ME, we need to educate them so they understand in a nuclear war, everyone loses.

and people wonder why Im so against nuclear power. Its nowhere near as safe as people make it out to be. Sure, they don't fail often-but when they do, they cause much worse damage, and long term damage. When a coal mine goes up in smoke you may lose a few workers, but you dont have babies being born with birth defects hundreds of miles away.

You dont have as many. You do get some.

On the navajo rez, where they mine coal, there are health issues relating to that mining. But then there are terrible effects related to uranium mining too.

Im not saying that theres not problems due to coal-Im just saying, the affects from a nuclear accident, are far worse then those of a coal accident. All sources of power come with some risk.
