A person will find in their research most of today's holidays have been adopted from pagan mythology. Lent-the Bible has no instructions on it but a 40 day lenten period was observed by pagan Egyptians and Greeks. The feast of Ascension is kept on the same day as the pagan Germanic festival called Mjollnir. There are endless examples. When we give pagan traditions new names and continue to observe them we put those customs before God's instructions. Who should we believe?-God, the author of the Holy Scriptures and our Creator or a church council presided over by a sun-worshiping Roman Emperor who was only converted to what was the Christianity of the day on his death bed. They simply overruled the bible and disregarded the examples and teachings of Jesus and the apostles. Does God care what days you think you should keep and when? It was serious enough for God to destroy certain peoples and places. God shows from scripture He expects more from those who claim to follow Him in spirit and truth-not in corrupted , vile practices rooted in worship of other gods. We have a Christmas tree, and a big meal and gifts, and laughter, and family together sharing. We are all Christians who love the Lord and serve him in many different ways. The vows that we take in most marriage ceremonies refer to scripture in Genesis 2 We are honoring each other when committing to such vows-we do not honor a pagan god. It's an agreement to share everything one has with his or her partner. My wife and I don't have rings but the ring is only to affirm their commitment to each other. A symbol as such but in reference to pagan custom in its simple form, it is not considered ornamental as some might believe in 1 Tim 2. Pagans would get on their knees to worship and sacrifice. You began your post saying that, as Christians, we are directed to continue observing the feasts. And yet the only people who are commanded to observe the Feasts are Mosaic Jews. Yes, Jesus and the Disciples observed the Feasts. As Jews, still living under Mosaic Law, they were required to and they knew that full well. They had to observe the Law until Jesus was crucified and resurrected. When the Church is started at Pentecost, we have no clear evidence that they continued to observe these feass. And we know, as fact, that no where in the New Testament is the Church commanded to keep the Mosaic Festivals. They can, if they wish to, but they are not required to. The entirety of Acts 15 addresses the yoke of the Law, how not even the Jews could keep it in it's totality (thus the need for Jesus' sacrifice,) and that they should not also place this unbearable yoke on the Gentile believers. This does not just apply to food, as you claim which is made quite clear in verse 10. Should Christians continue keeping the Feast days- 1Cor 11:23-27 -30 and 40 years after Christ's resurrection Paul shows mostly to a gentile people of Corinth that they observed a passover festival annually-with its new symbols of bread and wine. Again, years later, Paul is telling gentile converts to keep the feast- 1 Cor 5:8 this has been covered before in some respect but it's your choice. If you don't think it was commanded to be kept forever by everyone in the NT church and in our day and supposedly in the future when Jesus returns than that is your option but God holds us individually accountable for our spiritual actions. When were these feast days like Trumpets, Tabernacles, and atonement abandoned.? Didn't Jesus and the Apostles celebrate them in the New Testament and continued long after Christ rose to Heaven? Revelation, and prophecies, shows us that all mankind will be forced to keep the Feast days in the future during the reign of Christ on earth. If God said these Feast days were to be kept forever, why don't we keep them now rather than holidays like Christmas and Easter that have pagan roots? Christ set the example by observing the Biblical Feast days-why don't we follow Him?
