Actually the bacteria in your stomach has nothing to do with mental illnesses. It is a chemical imbalance in the brain. What roll the bacteria of the stomach plays a part I do not know.

Well, firstly the "gut" is the small intestines more so than the stomach.

But what research are you basing your opinion on?

But consider, where do the elements that make up "chemicals" in the brain come from? How do they enter the body?

Do the elements not come from food - the atoms that make up the chemicals?

Now consider, bacteria can interfere with proper digestion and release toxins. Released toxins end up in the blood stream. Can these not interfere with brain chemistry?

That is stretching it a bit.

Well, I have to ask you again, what research are you basing your initial comment on?

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/mental-illness/DS01104/DSECTION=causes

May I post a cause of mental illness from the Mayo Clinic?

Mental illnesses, in general, are thought to be caused by a variety of genetic and environmental factors:

  • Inherited traits. Mental illness is more common in people whose biological (blood) relatives also have a mental illness. Certain genes may increase your risk of developing a mental illness, and your life situation may trigger the actual mental illness.
  • Environmental exposures before birth. Exposure to viruses, toxins, alcohol or drugs while in the womb can sometimes be linked to mental illness.
  • Negative life experiences. Situations in your life, such as the loss of a loved one, financial problems and high stress, can play a role in triggering mental illness. So can an upbringing that leads to poor self-esteem or a history of sexual or physical abuse. Life experiences can lead to unhealthy patterns of thinking linked to mental illness, such as pessimism or distorted ways of thinking.
  • Brain chemistry. Biochemical changes in the brain are thought to affect mood and other aspects of mental health. Naturally occurring brain chemicals called neurotransmitters play a role in some mental illnesses. In some cases, hormonal imbalances affect mental health. It's thought that inherited traits, life experiences and biological factors can all affect brain chemistry linked to mental illnesses.

I do not see anything on here which is a reputable clinic stating that gut bacteria is involved.Maybe I am mistaking.Correct me if you will.

OK. The article I posted comes from a more recent study that was done. What Mayo Clinic posted was well established research that has been verified - that is supported with studies and experimentations. This new study is looking into another possible cause, and it will require further experiments to either refute or support the claim.

Does that make sense?

Only the vaccinations have been completely disproven as being linked to autism.

I think disproven is incorrect but what can be said is no link has yet been discovered
