Then it went on to emphasize that it was the direct result of urbanization and the urban heat island effect and not global warming. The urban heat island effect is when the concrete and asphalt holds in so much heat that it makes the nights warmer and increases the average daily temperature. Even though the days are just average or below average in temperature.  http://www.kpho.com/story/23471137/nws-phoenix-summer-was-hottest-on-record  there are two problems with the heat island effect being blamed for higher temps...  first, the rise in temperatures has been virtually the same in highly urbanized areas and very remote areas. Think about Az, I lived there for 3.5 years, the vast, vast majority of the state is not urbanized.  Second, the areas of the globe that have seen the highest rise in temperatures over the last century are Russia, Alaska, northern Canada and Greenland...none of which are known for their wide spread urbanization. Â The give "scientific" evidence for any group that is willing to give them cash. Â Their denial of the dangers of second hand smoke and their downplaying of the dangers of smoking itself should be enough for anyone to disregard anything they have to say. Its not the only time things were much warmer either. I disagree that global warming is man caused. So it is heat island effect. The past few summers have been nicer during the day than they have been in past summers in the 1980s for instance.
