Terrorists kill 21 Israelis in a day of bloodshed

Margot Dudkevitch

(Mar 04, 2002)

JERUSALEM - A devastated and bereft nation buried its dead yesterday, after 21 people were killed in four terrorist attacks in less than 24 hours in Jerusalem, the Judean Desert, near Ofra in Samaria, and at the Kissufim crossing in the Gaza Strip.

* At 7:13 p.m. on Saturday, a suicide bomber detonated his explosives in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Beit Yisrael, killing nine people - including women, children, and babies - and wounding scores.

* Close to 8 p.m. Saturday, the body of Jerusalem police detective Ch.-Supt. Moshe Dayan, 46, from Ma'aleh Adumim, was discovered near the Mar Saba Monastery in the Judean Desert. He was shot a number of times as he rode his motorcycle in the desert.

* At 6:30 a.m. yesterday, a Palestinian sniper perched on a hilltop overlooking an army roadblock in the Halamiya Valley north of Ofra, shot and killed 10 soldiers and civilians, and wounded four others.

* At 7:30 a.m. yesterday, a Palestinian gunman set up an ambush near a guard post south of the Kissufim crossing in the Gaza Strip and waited for Givati Brigade soldiers to arrive and take up their posts. As the soldiers stepped out of their jeep, the gunman opened fire, killing one and wounding four other, one moderately.

The identities of the seven soldiers and three civilians killed in yesterday's attacks in the West Bank are: Capt. Ariel Hovav, 25, of Eli, who was buried in Elkana yesterday evening; Sgt.-Maj. Raphael Levy, 42, of Rishon Lezion, who was buried yesterday evening in the military section of the Ramle Cemetery; Sgt.-Maj. Avraham Ezra, 38, of Kiryat Bialik, who will be buried this afternoon at 3:30 in the Haifa Military Cemetery; Sgt.-Maj. Yohai Porat, 26, of Kfar Saba, who will be buried at 4 this afternoon in the town's military cemetery; Lt. David Damelin, 28, of Kibbutz Meitzar, who will be buried at 3 this afternoon in the military cemetery at Kiryat Shaul; Sgt.-Maj. Kfir Weiss , 24, of Beit Shemesh, who will be buried at 1 p.m. today in the military section of the Beit Shemesh Cemetery; and Sgt.-Maj. Eran Gaz, 24, of Rishon Lezion, who will be buried at 3:45 this afternoon in the military section of the local cemetery.

The three civilians were identified as Sergei Butarov, 33, and Vadim Galigulah, 32, both of Ariel, and Didi Yitzhak, 66, of Eli. Details of their funerals have not yet been released.

The dead soldier in the shooting attack south of the Kissufim crossing was identified as Sgt. Steven Kenigsberg, 19 of Hod Hasharon. He is to be buried tomorrow at 1 p.m. in the military section of the local cemetery.

The wounded were taken to Hadassah-University Hospital in Jerusalem's Ein Kerem and Shaare Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem. Two of the victims remain in serious condition, one in satisfactory condition, and another suffered light wounds.

Fatah's Al-Aksa Martyrs' Brigade claimed responsibility for the attack at the Halamiya roadblock. The PA did not condemn the attack, and Marwan Barghouti, Fatah head in the West Bank, called it heroic.

Initial IDF findings indicated only one Palestinian sniper perpetrated the attack. Only after his carbine was damaged by the soldiers' fire did he flee the area unharmed, heading toward the village of Sinjil in Palestinian Authority-controlled territory. According to Palestinian sources, three terrorists participated in the attack.

Throughout the day, Palestinians jeered that a sniper armed with a carbine dating back to World War II succeeded in shooting "occupation" soldiers armed with M-16 assault rifles.

According to the IDF, the soldiers manning the roadblock were all reservists from the Engineering Corps. They had difficulty at first spotting the sniper due to the hilly terrain on both sides of the road.

Chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen. Shaul Mofaz and OC Central Command Maj.-Gen. Yitzhak Eitan arrived at the scene and were briefed by officers. Some of the soldiers who were unharmed demanded measures be taken to give them more security. They said they felt like sitting ducks.

In recent weeks in the Ramallah area, 14 soldiers and three civilians have been killed in attacks at army roadblocks.

The IDF is reassessing the situation, and several roadblocks have been dismantled.

Yesterday morning, five soldiers from the Givati Brigade drove in a jeep to begin guard duty at a position on the Gaza Strip border fence south of the Kissufim crossing. When they got out of their vehicle, a gunman opened fire. Kenigsberg was killed and four of his comrades wounded, one moderately. They were taken to Soroka Hospital in Beersheba.

Southern Command has launched an investigation, and officers will try to determine why none of the soldiers managed to shoot the terrorist before he fled.

Elsewhere in the Gaza Strip, shots were fired last night at soldiers near the Gush Katif border fence, at an IDF post near Ganei Tal, at soldiers near the Gush Katif junction, and at an IDF post near Rafah. In the early evening, Palestinians fired one mortar shell at a community in northern Gaza. Soldiers defused a bomb near Rafah. In the West Bank, shots were fired at the Tel Rumeida quarter in Hebron, at an IDF post south of Balata, at a vehicle on the Trans-Judea highway, and at an IDF post south of Halhoul. A bomb was detonated near an IDF jeep northwest of Hebron.

Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, You who lead Joseph like a flock; You who dwell between the cherubim, shine forth! Before Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh, Stir up Your strength, And come and save us! Restore us, O God; Cause Your face to shine, And we shall be saved! O Lord God of hosts, How long will You be angry Against the prayer of Your people? You have fed them with the bread of tears, And given them tears to drink in great measure. You have made us a strife to our neighbors, And our enemies laugh among themselves. Restore us, O God of hosts; Cause Your face to shine, And we shall be saved!

You have brought a vine out of Egypt; You have cast out the nations, and planted it. You prepared room for it, And caused it to take deep root, And it filled the land. The hills were covered with its shadow, And the mighty cedars with its boughs.

Terror Attacks Continue Against Israel by the

Terror Organisation of the Arch-Terrorist, Arafat

During the week ending 9th March, 2002 the terror attacks against Israel continued.

In Atzmonah, in the south of the Gaza Strip, 5 young Israeli Yeshiva students were murdered at the college they were attending prior to their service in the army. An Arab terrorists entered the college and went on a shooting spree killing and wounding young boys all under the age of 18. The IDF who immediately responded to the attack killed the terrorist.

On Saturday night a terrorist suicide bomber murdered 11 young Israelis between the ages of 18 and 31 in a coffee shop in Jerusalem and wounded 61 others. This was one of the cruelest terror attacks. The coffee shop was covered in blood and body parts. Earlier on the same evening 2 Arab terrorists shot into a group of people who were in the midst of a religious celebration, murdering a 5-month old baby and a 20-year old volunteer paramedic. The 2 arab terrorists were killed by the police. The baby had come from South Africa with her parents to attend a wedding of a relative in Israel.

2 other suicide bombers were killed by the IDF on their way to murder Israelis in Jerusalem and an Israeli village in the Gaza Strip.

On Sunday 10th March, the IDF detonated a car bomb packed with explosives on its way to attack a site in Jerusalem. The car was struck by a missile from a helicopter. 2 terrorists in the car were killed. This was a miracle as the bomb could have killed many people in Jerusalem.

Also on Sunday, a terrorist in the Gaza strip murdered an Israeli security guard and was then killed by the IDF.

On Sunday night a terrorist shot into a group in a hall in Ashdod and wounded a 12-year old Israeli child. It was another miracle as his gun jammed and he was then caught by the IDF. The Israeli army is searching for 2 other terrorists who brought him to the area.

Last week the Israeli army began very intensive offensives against the "Palestinian" Authority and her terrorist organisations, Fatah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad and others all over the areas controlled by them in Judea, Samaria and Gaza. The goal is to destroy all the bases and infrastructure of these terrorist organisations and the head-quarters of the so-called "Palestinian" Authority who controls the terror attacks against Israel and sends the terrorists under direct command of the arch-terrorist, Yasser Arafat. The IDF entered the cities in these areas and attacked many thousands of Arab terrorists who were preparing missiles, bombs and other terrorist materials to be used in terrorist operations in Israel. In these battles many of the Arab terrorists were killed and more than 1300  surrendered together with their weapons. These cruel terrorists who are "heroes" against innocent Israeli babies, children and women were cowards who ran like rabbits when the were faced with the Israeli army. The Israeli army occupied these areas in short and successful battles. 1 Israeli soldier was killed by an Arab sniper at the outset of the battle. The IDF offensive in Judea, Samaria and Gaza continues at this time (11th March). The Prime Minister of Israel, Ariel Sharon, stated that this offensive will not stop until all the terrorist bases and the terrorists have been destroyed.

Israeli intelligence and experts on the Arab "Palestinian" terror report that there is no chance that the terror of the murderer, Arafat, will stop in the near future. According to their report, this terror will continue for a long time, even for years. They explained that the terror attacks of Arafat against Israel are not just in order to win or occupy areas of Israel but is part of his traditional strategic goal which is to destroy completely Israel and to establish a "Palestinian state in all the land of Israel between the Jordan and the Mediterranean and with Jerusalem as its capital. He considers himself as a second Salah a'Din who occupied the land of Israel in the 12th century, taking it from the Crusaders and destroying their kingdom. This arch-terrorist who has killed so many Israelis and Jews aver the last few decades has, on more than one occasion in his inflammatory speeches like Hitler in his time,  stated that he will send a million Shahids who will be ready to die for the capture of Jerusalem and the Temple Mount from Israel and that his great dream is to raise the Islamic "Palestinian" flag on the Temple Mount, as Salah a'Din did in his time, and on the churches of Jerusalem. This murderer is in euphoria with regard to this and he will continue to try to fulfil his bloody dream. There is no doubt that it will remain a nightmare for himself and all his murdering terrorists.

There is also no doubt that the so-called "Palestinians" are the Amalekites of our time and the murderer, Arafat, is like the king of the Amalekites who killed many of the Children of Israel on their way from Egypt to the Promised Land in a very similar cruel way of terror and they were harshly judged by the G

I can't believe the peaceful Palestininians could ever do anything like this. There a pure as the wind driven snow. All they want is peace. Yeah right.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
