Psalm 83

I had the opportunity to see David Dolan speak today at a CBU convention. What a group! The worship before the speaker was amazing. There was much dancing and singing and hands lifted up to the Lord. The shofar sounded regularly and I was truly humbled in the presence of the Lord. He spoke, among other things, on Psalm 83.

 

1 A Song. A Psalm of Asaph. Do not keep silent, O God! Do not hold Your peace, And do not be still, O God! 2 For behold, Your enemies make a tumult; And those who hate You have lifted up their head. 3 They have taken crafty counsel against Your people, And consulted together against Your sheltered ones. 4 They have said, "Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation, That the name of Israel may be remembered no more." 5 For they have consulted together with one consent; They form a confederacy against You: 6 The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites; Moab and the Hagrites; 7 Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek; Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre; 8 Assyria also has joined with them; They have helped the children of Lot. Selah

9 Deal with them as with Midian, As with Sisera, As with Jabin at the Brook Kishon, 10 Who perished at En Dor, Who became as refuse on the earth. 11 Make their nobles like Oreb and like Zeeb, Yes, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna, 12 Who said, "Let us take for ourselves The pastures of God for a possession." 13

14 As the fire burns the woods, And as the flame sets the mountains on fire, 15 So pursue them with Your tempest, And frighten them with Your storm. 16 Fill their faces with shame, That they may seek Your name, O Lord. 17 Let them be confounded and dismayed forever; Yes, let them be put to shame and perish, 18 That they may know that You, whose name alone is the Lord, Are the Most High over all the earth.

The confederacy consists of ten enemies to the north, east, west and southeast of Israel.The Revised New Bible Commentary says of Verses 6-8:"No such widespread alliance of adjacent states...is mentioned in the Old Testament." Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Jordan and Saudi Arabia are roughly the modern equivalents and Egypt is not included. That disqualifies the 1948 and 1967 wars.

O my God, make them like the whirling dust, Like the chaff before the wind!

Could this be descibing a nuclear attack by Israel?

Behold, Damascus will cease from being a city, and it will be a ruinous heap.  Isaiah 17:1

The UN would have no choice but to disarm Israel or perhaps the antichrist would arrive on the scene to confirm a covenant.

But the goal is not their destruction:

So pursue them with Your tempest, And frighten them with Your storm. 16 Fill their faces with shame, That they may seek Your name, O Lord.

Hi John,

I am the husband of happymrs87. I seen your message that you got to see David Dolan speak. I bet that was awesome. A lot has been spoken on the Psalm 83 war lately. I agree with David that a regional war is a given. You mentioned the nations of Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Iraq. I believe that all these nations will be involved, however I also believe the Palestinians will be involved also and possibly Egypt. I have read a similar study on this regional war that also involves Isaiah 11:12-16 and Isaiah 19. This study of a regional war was by Joel Chernoff of the Messianic Jewish Alliance of America (MJAA.org). Because of the wording of these passages which are similar to Psalms 83, I think there will be limited nuclear warfare which will lead to the destruction of Damascus. If Egypt is not involved in this war, then they will almost certainly be involved in the Ezekiel 38 and 39 war that will involve more powerful Islamic countries and Russia. I think this Arab regional war in which Israel thoroughly defeats the Arabs will lead to the Ezekiel 38 and 39 war. Islam will be crushed in these two wars. Anyway, I enjoyed your post.

It was truly awesome! Sorry, that was a quick post. I left out the Palestinians. David mentioned that Russia had helped build a dam in Egypt that was easily reached by Israel. The destruction of this dam would cause a major castastrophe. Perhaps Egypt's peace with Israel is for self-preservation. He also spoke on the idea of a Palestinian state and the Jewish settlements referencing Jeremiah 30-33. The areas occupied...forgive me! The areas where the settlements are built are mentioned twice in 32:44 and 33:13, for I will cause their captives to return, says the Lord.. I know this is an historical account, but there is still prophecy to be fulfilled in these passages.  

  Some dears friends of mine attended the conference with me. They are quite familiar with the Messianic movement, but this was my first experience, and Lord willing, it won't be my last. For if their being cast away is the reconciling of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?
