Nothing in this life will ever be perfect.  It is only when we leave this life will we know what perfection truly is, as we will be face to face with God.

1. Scripture is perfect.

2. Scripture is complete.

"Complete" is what is applicable in the quoted passage.

New International Version (1 Cor 13:10)
but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears.

Strong's Concordance
teleios: having reached its end, i.e. complete, by ext. perfect

Original Word: τέλειος, α, ον
Part of Speech: Adjective
Transliteration: teleios
Phonetic Spelling: (tel'-i-os)
Short Definition: perfect, full-grown
Definition: perfect, (a) complete in all its parts, (b) full grown, of full age, (c) specially of the completeness of Christian character.

Thank you for the kinds words Fran.  It is like overhearing a conversation and jumping in.  Sometimes it is acceptable, and other times it may seem rude to others, which is why I stated what I did so not to offend anyone.

As for the post count, what shows up in green at the number of likes people have given, while the number below is the actual post count.  Your account shows you have 170 posts, but there are 186 likes.  Nice average!

Oh.  You mean you have 23,000 posts?

OoooKaaaay...! (wow)

I know you're kidding.  NO ONE has all the answers.

We can safely say, though, that this man is CHANGING some of the answers!  so which were right, these, or the ones that came before??!!

And where is this perfect scripture today?   As for complete ... John 21:25  "And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written."

Scripture has been translated so many time we cannot agree which is right.  Some use these codex's, others something different codex's.  Which one today is perfect? We don't even have the originals.

Do tell me, out of the many translations, which is perfect?  We can't even agree if the word being used is perfect or complete.

Well, I have been here since 2007 and I was an Servant for some of that time, so I spent a lot of time in threads.  Yet, I am far from the highest post count.

Firstly the knowledge mentioned by Paul is not ordinary knowledge as we know it, but knowledge through Divine revelation. Prophecies, tongues, and knowledge are all related to direct Divine revelation, and that is what we need to see clearly.

So when would these gifts cease?  When Divine revelations came to an end.  And that is when the book of Revelation was completed (AD 90).  Scripture says nothing about "He who is perfect" but it says "That which is complete".  The context makes it clear that this passage has nothing to do with the Second Coming of Christ or the New Heavens and the New Earth.

The proof that this is the correct interpretation is in the writings of the ante-Nicene Fathers (AD 90-300).  Not one of them claimed to be an apostle or a prophet or a tongues-speaker.

Sorry Ezra.  @Giller and @OneLight are correct.

You cannot actually mean that you think 1 Corinthians 13:8 refers to the BIBLE being complete, or our knowledge being complete?  Maybe you could check out some commentaries?  It's so clear that it means the New Heavens and the New Earth when Jesus returns.  Until then NOTHING will be perfect.

The gifts will cease at that time.  All of verse 8 is speaking about how love is necessary for all the gifts to work.  Without love they are useless.  ALL of these gifts will become USELESS in the New World because ONLY at that time will all be perfected.

It seems clear so my comments end pretty much here.

Fran
