Yes it's a work of God who works righteousness in us. All the more we ought to have faith that He can keep us from falling/sinning. To deny that is to deny the power and gift of God.

ERROR, it's a "GIFT". no work involved.

The gift is God's work in us.

Telling me I must read the passages in context says nothing. I can equally say the same thing to you.

I do read in context.

The one you submit to.

Question; which fishing lure in your tackle box catches the most fish?

Answer; The one you use the most.

God is more powerful than the sinful nature.

So do I, but you have to consider other things when applicable such as Greek grammar as Willa has shown you.

You weren't using the verses in proper context.

God is more powerful than the sinful nature.

God's power is unlimited, He is all powerful. Sin is a choice, even when you have the power of God available as a believer. Assuming your still flesh and blood, you're not infallible. You make mistakes. Sometimes, you allow the power of the flesh to control your actions,  and you miss the mark. Even if you keep repeating you don't, doesn't make it true.

If you don't believe you'll walk as He walked here on earth then you will not. It's lack of faith on you part.

As for me I am convinced of the promise and ability of God. I look at Jude 1:24 and I know that He is able. I read Matthew 5:6 and I am persuaded of this promise.

Like I said, one's interpretation involves context and much more. Context may be important, which I take into consideration, but there are plenty more hermeneutical principles involved. Willa showed that you were ignoring the Greek tenses for example.

So in 1 John 2: 1 it's better translated. "If any man practices sin we have an advocate"?
