Rules for Priests

1 The LORD said to Moses, “Speak to the priests, the sons of Aaron, and say to them: ‘A priest must not make himself ceremonially unclean for any of his people who die,
except for a close relative, such as his mother or father, his son or daughter, his brother,
or an unmarried sister who is dependent on him since she has no husband—for her he may make himself unclean.
4 He must not make himself unclean for people related to him by marriage, and so defile himself.

(Leviticus 1:1-4)

5 “ ‘Priests must not shave their heads or shave off the edges of their beards or cut their bodies.

6 They must be holy to their God and must not profane the name of their God. Because they present the food offerings to the LORD, the food of their God, they are to be holy.

7 “ ‘They must not marry women defiled by prostitution or divorced from their husbands, because priests are holy to their God.

8 Regard them as holy, because they offer up the food of your God. Consider them holy, because I the LORD am holy—I who make you holy.

9 “ ‘If a priest’s daughter defiles herself by becoming a prostitute, she disgraces her father; she must be burned in the fire.

10 “ ‘The high priest, the one among his brothers who has had the anointing oil poured on his head and who has been ordained to wear the priestly garments, must not let his hair become unkempt or tear his clothes.

11 He must not enter a place where there is a dead body. He must not make himself unclean, even for his father or mother,

12 nor leave the sanctuary of his God or desecrate it, because he has been dedicated by the anointing oil of his God. I am the LORD.

13 “ ‘The woman he marries must be a virgin.

14 He must not marry a widow, a divorced woman, or a woman defiled by prostitution, but only a virgin from his own people,

15 so that he will not defile his offspring among his people. I am the LORD, who makes him holy.’ ”

(16)  And he shall pluck away its crop with its feathers, and throw it beside the altar on the east part, by the place of the ashes.
(17)  And he shall cut it in two with the wings of it, not dividing it. And the priest shall burn it on the altar, on the wood that is on the fire. It is a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savor to Jehovah.

(Leviticus 1:16-17)

Praise God!

* Leviticus is the book related to worship
* (Numbers 1:47-54) - The Levites were set apart to serve the tabernacle
* All its types refer to worship, as  those in Exodus referred to redemption.

'Blessed is the one whom You choose,
and cause to come near You.
He shall dwell in Your courts;
we shall be satisfied with the goodness of Your house,
of Your holy temple.'

(Psalm 65:4)

(2) And he shall bring it to Aaron's sons, the priests. And he shall take out of it his handful of flour and its oil, with all its frankincense. And the priest shall burn the memorial of it on the altar, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savor to Jehovah.

(3)  And the rest of the food offering shall be Aaron's and his sons', most holy of the offerings of Jehovah made by fire.
(Leviticus 2:2-3)

(7)  And if thy oblation be a meat offering baken in the fryingpan, it shall be made of fine flour with oil.
(8)  And thou shalt bring the meat offering that is made of these things unto the LORD: and when it is presented unto the priest, he shall bring it unto the altar.
(9)  And the priest shall take from the meat offering a memorial thereof, and shall burn it upon the altar: it is an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD.
(10)  And that which is left of the meat offering shall be Aaron's and his sons': it is a thing most holy of the offerings of the LORD made by fire.
(Levitivus 2:7-10)

Praise God!

* 'Baken': it is a type of Christ, Who was 'tried as by fire'
* Fine flour: not merely ground, but perfect and ready, no unevenness,  So with the life of Christ, 'The Man Christ Jesus'.  Flour is to the wheat what blood is to the body; and spirit is to the resurrection body.
* Oil: Flour mixed with oil, and then oil poured on it.  So Christ's life permeated and actuated by the Holy Spirit.
* Francincense: This ascended to God as a sweet savour.
