We all have been shown great mercy in our lives.

MATTHEW.4:17(NKJV) = 17 From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven [c]is at hand.”

MATTHEW.18:15-20 (NKJV) = Dealing with a Sinning Brother

15 “Moreover if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother. 16 But if he will not hear, take with you one or two more, that ‘by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.’ 17 And if he refuses to hear them, tell it to the church. But if he refuses even to hear the church, let him be to you like a heathen and a tax collector.

18 “Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.

19 “Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”

Only the repentant sinner deserves forgiveness and mercy. Forgiveness does not mean the forgiven do not have to suffer the consequences of their sins/evil-works/Law-breaking(1JOHN.5:16-17, 1CORINTIANS.11:30 & 5:5).

There is no sin under the sun which cannot be forgiven by God when repented of, whether unintentionally or willfully committed. But once forgiven, shown mercy and saved from hell by faith in Jesus Christ, they are not to go and willfully sin the same sin again and again or go and sin even more or greater sins(HEBREWS.10:26-31 & 6:1-8, 1CORINTHIANS.6:9-11). God is not mocked or to be taken for granted in His forgiveness and mercy when misled Christians go and commit repeated or more or greater willful sins.

Before his conversion, Paul was a top murderer and persecutor of early Jewish Christians. When Jesus Christ spoke to him(ACTS.9:5), he was convicted, repented, was forgiven, shown mercy(= not struck dead) and he did not go and murder some more or go and sin some more other sins(cf JOHN.5:14 & 8:11). Nevertheless, Paul had to suffer for his sins of murder(ACTS.9:16). In the end, he suffered martyrdom. At LUKE.23:43, the repentant Jewish robber who was crucified next to Jesus was saved from hell but he still had to suffer early physical death for his crime/sin.

So willful sins should not be taken lightly by Christians.
