According to the Scriptures, no one goes to be with the Lord at death. No one works, no praise sessions with him. They cant remember anything. THey dont love or hate anything. They have no more to with earth at all.

To believe that someone lives on after they have passed away leads one into the spiritualism belief that they arent really dead. Wait! Thats what Satan said to Eve, THOU SHALT NOT SURELY DIE. But did Eve die? she did.

Where are the dead people? The grave..hence the world of the dead is a correct description of death. Its the place where there are dead people....

The begger and the publican is a parable...its a story. Not neccessarily the truth...in the parable..notice..a gulf separates the living and the dead signifying that there is no communication with the dead.

To communicate with dead spirits is forbidden by God..ALL those who do are committing sins against God.

The generation that never was is what was crying out in the blood of Abel.The Word of GOD says to be absent from the body is to be present with the LORD.The Word of GOD also says..blessed are the dead that die in the LORD(Rev.14:13)So how blessed can a dead person be if he just lies in the grave?

If I am dead; all my sorrows are gone. No more worrying, no stress. I dont have any taxes or bills. I dont worry about my love ones anymore. I cant even think!!

I wanted you to notice that spirit and breath are used interchangelby dealing with death.

Again, Absent from the body and present with the Lord....

To be absent from the body does not mean we go into the presence of the Lord at death. Paul is saying, just like when we are asleep;the next moment we will see the Lord coming. While a person sleeps the sleep of death, they dont know how long they have been dead. So when they wake up, there next moment will be in the presence of the coming savior.

Paul's wish in this text is to be dead and waiting. But he knew it was more important to be at home in the body for oursakes and so did the Lord. He has suffered a lot; He was weary....

Paul's life;

2Co 11:23 Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more; in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft.

Paul said those who have fallen asleep WILL NOT GO before us...

I did. I noticed Elijah? Did Elijah die?

2Ki 2:11 And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.

Thats odd. Elijah never died but he went to heaven.

What about Moses? Did he die?

Deu 34:5 So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD.

Deu 34:6 And he buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, over against Bethpeor: but no man knoweth of his sepulchre unto this day.

Why yes he did die, But the Lord did something strange with the body of moses.

Jud 1:9 Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.

The Lord raised Moses and took him to heaven.

We are not told when, but we are told that God came for moses, his most trusted servant and raised him from the grave to be with him in Paradise.

The transfiguration was/is a minature picture of the coming of the Lord. Moses represents all the saints who have died and resting in the grave, awaiting the coming of the savior to be awaken from their sleep. Elijah represents all the saints who will be alive at the coming of the Lord. the only two classes of people who will be saved at the end.

Thats why it could be said of Peter, James and John that they would not taste death until they saw the coming of the Lord. They saw what was going to happen to all the christians dead and living.
