You are certainly entitled to your opinion. However, I will be bold enough to challenge false assertions and assumptions that are so frequently made by those that dismiss the evidence God has left in His creation as “fairy tale”.

God never mentioned evolution or any description of that process in the way He created the world.  The Scripture says that He spoke it into being and it happened instantly.  The Scripture doesn't say that He took the whole 24 hours to do it.  It was done during the particular day, and it was done as soon as He spoke it into being.  God doesn't have to take millions of years to create a universe and a habitable world.  He can do it in a moment of time, and that is how He did it.  The reason why He did it instantly on each day, is that He was setting up our seven day week.

Sinful, rebellious, unconverted man chooses to dream up an alternative to an all-powerful God creating the whole universe in six instantaneous states and creating man in His own image instead of evolving him from some form of ape-man.

Why would one assume that “His image” is physical, rather than spiritual?

The point is, as you well know, that man was created perfect, intelligent, and innocent, until he disobeyed God and fell from what he was created to be.  He wasn't some half-intelligent ape-man slowly developing into a full human being.

Does the Bible say Adam was created perfect?

I agree with this part.

I agree with this, but this is a straw man.

So why couldn’t the “image of God” refer to the addition of a spiritual component? This would be a miraculous case of divine intervention and special creation of the first humans.

I am coming to the opinion that a lot of what is called spirituality in people is more New Age than Biblical.  Adam had direct fellowship with God.  He didn't need to be spiritual.

Do you have a spiritual relationship with God?

John 4:23-24 New International Version (NIV)

23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

I have the Holy Spirit dwelling in me and we have fellowship in the Spirit.  But that doesn't mean that I am spiritual in myself.  I don't have any sort of mystical "sixth sense".  The Holy Spirit always leads me according to the written word.  People who say they have some sort of spiritual "sixth sense" are moving into New Age mysticism.

Agreed on the “sixth sense”. But our ability to be in fellowship with God indicates a true part of our “selves” that goes beyond the physical realm. This aspect, and not our biology, is what makes us unique and the “image of God”.

It's not us in ourselves.  It is the Holy Spirit within us.  Self-spirituality is of the flesh, and Paul said that there was nothing good living in him, that is in his flesh.

I didn’t claim it was. I said that God created it.

Yes, but do you believe the Holy Spirit resides in some physical location, or interacts with us on a level that is not physical?
