Amid the coronavirus outbreak, poor Christian villagers in China have been ordered to renounce their faith and replace displays of Jesus with portraits of Chairman Mao and President Xi Jinping or risk losing their welfare benefits.

Religious liberty magazine Bitter Winter reports that in April, officials with China's Communist Party visited believers’ homes in Linfen, a prefecture-level city in the northern province of Shanxi. While there, they ordered residents who receive social welfare payments from the government to replace crosses, religious symbols, and images in their homes with portraits of China's communist leaders.

Sad and very interesting way they have of making sure that the Gospel will be even more important.

Act 5:38  …38 So in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone. Let them go! For if their purpose or endeavor is of human origin, it will fail. 39 But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop them. You may even find yourselves fighting against God.” 40 At this, they yielded to Gamaliel. They called the apostles in and had them flogged. Then they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and released them.…

On the other hand, the following facts also need to be made known.

1) Red China once is a common goal of over 90% Chinese. They supported the overthrow of ROC (with both the president and first lady as Christians) to build a communist red China with no religion. This was done in the expenses of more than 30 million human lives, including those died during the Japanese invasion. Japanese picked the right time which was the weakest point of China right after a large scale civil war between ROC and the rebels of communists.

2) Last time a civil war (around 1850 - 1870) in the name of Christianity (but not actually involving true Christians) was a rebellion involving a death toll as high as 70 million, which is almost twice the population of today's Canada. It achieved nothing similarly to point 1)

That is within a relatively short period of time in the past 200 years, Chinese rebelled with Christianity in disguise, and with a death toll estimated to be as high as 70 million but achieved nothing. They also launched another rebellion which overthrew a government with a Christian president and first lady, to achieve a nation without religion but communism. This was done with a death toll of another 30 million human lives. There seem to be countless rebellions in the past several hundred years in China. The two listed out of them are the ones with the highest death tolls.

It is within Caesar's authority to take whatever measure to avoid the same from happening again and again, IMHO. We are talking about a death toll of more than 100 million over 200 years. In contrast, the death toll of the US in Korean War (Vietnam War as well) is around 50,000, a number so small that it can be ignored in comparison to 100,000,000 .

Taiping Rebellion wiki:

With no reliable census at the time, estimates of the death toll of the rebellion are necessarily based on projections. The most widely cited sources estimate the total number of deaths during the 15 years of the rebellion to be approximately 20–30 million civilians and soldiers. Most of the deaths were attributed to plague and famine.

However according to the Chinese version wiki,

Researches done recently and more systematically revealed that nationwide deaths (no mentioning of famine or plague but a direct result of the war itself) are between 46.93 mil. and 95.11 mil.

Overall population of China in 1850 is around 430 million.

Considering that the Holy Scripture is against images, this is a good news. It is regrettable that  some people say that they believe in Jesus but don't abide by His commandments.

There is no good to produce Mary or Jesus statues or apostles statues in very big size or very very big cross by those churches in China.

It has nothing to do with christianity. We don't worship statues.
