In the passage ....The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

 I am puzzled

bud, the 1st and 2nd para is great and makes the point to me that ...we are immature kids in the Lord's scale of things.

(your last para confusing a bit.)

His patience is waiting for people to repent like He gave 120 years to the world be4 the flood of Noah.

The Lord doesn't desire that anyone perish.
As Peter had been talking to false teachers who mocked him saying,

"Where is this Jesus coming? He's not coming."

Peter told his followers that God is patient, allowing more time for more people to repent and be saved.
The Lord is not slow in keeping His promises, as we understand slowness.
It will happen in His time and not ours.

The Lord doesn't discipline us unless he needs to.

I'm not sure what your concern is, lokp.
I simply explained what I believed you scripture meant,
2 Peter 3:9

Peter explained to his followers God will grant time for people to gain salvation mercy.
The false teachers were claiming Jesus sure is slow, if ever, to return.

You will have to help me understand what your concern is.

sower, I was a bit cheeky true

your words are right for this passage but can I illustrate my concern...

scenario 1 - after many years a lone man entered a crowd of 500 and suddenly the 500 was not gonna perish in the tsanami

scenario 2 - after many years the lone man chose not to enter the crowd of 500 and suddenly the 500 was gonna perish in the tsanami

is this why the lone man gets the patience of God?

I assume the entrance of the lone man saved the 500.

scenario 2 - after many years the lone man chose not to enter the crowd of 500 and suddenly the 500 was gonna perish in the tsanami
The 500 perish for lack of the lone man saving them

is this why the lone man gets the patience of God?
I assumed the lone man was God. Saved the 500 in 1st scenario, not the second.

We're not on the same channel, lokp...

God was patient with me, thirty five years of rebellion, and I finally received light, and I was saved.
I could have been called to eternity sooner, and would have suffered eternally.
I am thankful for Gods patients, and faithfulness, and am glad there ain't no tsunami gonna get me!
