Overcomers shall ever be with the Lord.

1 Thessalonians 4

14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

You need to post the scriptures you’re referring to in context.

1Thessalonians 4:13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

1Thessalonians 4:14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

1Thessalonians 4:15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

1Thessalonians 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

1Thessalonians 4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and SO SHALL WE EVER BE WITH THE LORD

1Corinthians 15:51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,

1Corinthians 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound,

AND THE DEAD SHALL BE RAISED INCORRUPTIBLE ,

and we shall be changed.

1Corinthians 15:53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

1Corinthians 15:54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

The "dead in Christ" are resurrected and ascend to meet Christ in the air. THEN those who remain alive until the Glorious Return are caught up to join them in the clouds.

This all happens on the same day - "the last day" - the day of His Glorious Return.

Says nothing about "the dead" living in Heaven for years, between their physical death and their resurrection.

1Thessalonians 4:14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

The Greek word translated here as “bring” (Strong’s #71) has also been translated as “take.”  This verse may be saying that God will take to heaven with Him, all those who now sleep in Jesus.

Another possible meaning of this verse is that God will “bring” from the dead, all those who sleep in Jesus - just as He “brought” Jesus “from the dead.” This is the meaning of “brought again from the dead” in Hebrews 13:20.  The word is used in the same way in Romans 10:7.

Read the rest of the passage.  The “dead in Christ” are raised from their graves when “the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout” (v.16).

I Thessalonians 4:16-17  “For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God.  [THEN] And the dead in Christ will rise first.  Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.”  And thus we shall always be with the Lord.”

Some folks read just verses 14 and 15, and then say that the dead go to heaven immediately after physical death.  That’s not what the whole passage is saying.  Paul is describing one event.

Hi RP,

How is it possible to be 'dead in Christ'?  They aren't the ones living in paradise with because

'God is the God of the living and not the dead'.  We are made alive.  We wont see death.

And we know the rich man can see Lazarus in paradise.

THE GOD OF THE LIVING
Jesus said that Abraham, Isaac and Jacob are alive.

Background:  The Sadducees did not believe in resurrection - of any kind.

Matthew 22:31-32  [Christ speaking] “But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God, saying, ‘I am the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob?’ God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.”

    Compare the following verses:
Romans 4:17 [Paul writing] “God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did;”

The “things which do not exist” in our present, would be “the dead”.  Paul says that God speaks of the dead as if they do exist.  Why?  Answer:  Because - to God - they DO EXIST. They are only sleeping. He will wake them presently.  We don’t call someone “dead,” who is sleeping. Neither does God.

The “first death” is only a sleep.  To God, the dead are still alive, because He can wake them.  He has their spirits.

To God - only the “second death” in the “lake of fire,” is actual death, because that death is permanent.  Those people can never be resurrected again, because God will destroy Hell (Sheol - the abode of the dead) in the lake of fire.

Luke 20:37-38  “But even Moses showed in the burning bush passage that the dead are raised, when he called the Lord ‘the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’  For He is not the God of the dead but of the living, for all live to Him.”

All would include both the righteous and the wicked.  No one has been destroyed in the lake of fire - yet.

Re: The Rich Man and the Beggar Lazarus

I believe that was a parable.  It should not be taken literally.

Matthew 13:34  “Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not say anything to them without using a parable.” (NIV)

We must remember that this story was a parable!  The Jewish people had a long tradition of stories called “Midrash.” These stories were handed down through generations.  They illustrated or clarified the lessons of Scripture.  Everyone understood that these stories were not always to be taken literally.  Heaven and Hell are not within shouting distance. People in Heaven cannot see people in Hell suffering.

First:  Christ wanted to teach  the uselessness of riches to the dead.

Second:  Christ was predicting the hardness of the Jewish leaders (represented by the rich man and his brothers).  They wouldn’t be convinced, even if “one rose from the dead”.  And - true to the parable, the leaders were not convinced after Lazarus and then Christ Himself “rose from the dead.”
The rich Jew pleaded, “Father Abraham, please send someone to warn my five brothers.”
Judah (father of the Jews) did indeed have five full-blood brothers.  They were all sons of Jacob’s wife Leah.  Their names were Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Issachar and Zebulun (Genesis 29-30).
In Jesus’s day, Caiaphas (the currently serving High Priest) had 5 brothers-in-law, all of whom sequentially served as High Priest, following their father Annas - the Roman appointee, and head of the Sanhedrin (the high council).
It’s no wonder they hated Jesus, with parables like this one!

Third:  This parable was a warning to the Jews, concerning their true destiny, should they remain racist, arrogant and unrepentant.  The “rich man” represented the Jewish leaders who thought themselves “rich” in the things of God.  (And they were.)  They believed that they would go to the “bosom of Abraham” at death,  just because they were Jews - and “righteous” Jews at that. (They got that part wrong.)

The poor beggar Lazarus, sitting outside the gate, represented the Gentiles, who were “outside” of the kingdom, ( in the eyes of first century Jews). They were ceremonially “unclean,” and the beggar in the story was covered with sores - making him literally unclean.

Jesus put a different “twist” on a common parable, and His teaching was in direct opposition to commonly held beliefs of His day. This parable is about consequences.  It is not a detailed description of the afterlife.

We cannot build a whole doctrine on the use of a word translated as “hell” - located in a parable on an entirely different subject.  Hell is NOT an unending place of horrors situated within shouting distance, from a heaven of joy and delights.

Good evening to you,

Me, I like to read what is written and take the most simple explanation first. As I believe that all I need is found within the Word what the traditions of man were at the time don't often change for me, what is written.  (though I don't seem to have a problem when figures of speech are used,  Who knows).

So the question remains HOW did 'death' change after Christ rose?  OR did it change nothing at all and the graves weren't really opened.

Did Christ go to prepare a place so that we could be with Him or not?  If He did as he said he would and He is presently with God, how is it possible for us not to be where He is once our flesh dies?  Why when it is all about being NOT of this world but the spiritual world when it comes to death of the flesh does the spiritual world just up and disappear?  Life went on for Christ, why would it not go on for us?  WHAT is the point of leaving us DEAD, for ever how long that may be?  Why would God give us a heavenly body and then not have us go to heaven?  I could go on and on but I think we have pretty much covered our beliefs.  One thing for sure, we will find out.

I wish you the best on your journey and walk with the Lord.  Good night to you....D

Hi again,

Are parables not just truth told in a way in which some can't understand?  How does it go from being a truth as written to something else not?

Do you see any kind of parallel meaning between the gulf and the river that can't be crossed?

Do you really think that God demands us to know all the traditions of man at the time Jesus walked the earth so that we could figure out what point He is to make?  I am not sure I personally would ever say they 'can not see each other'  when Jesus said they could though...just sayin...might want to word that differently, just in case.

Luke 16:10 He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.

Luke 16:11 If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?

Luke 16:12 And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man's, who shall give you that which is your own?

Luke 16:13 No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

Luke 16:14 And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him.

WAS THIS A PARABLE?
Luke 16:15 And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.

OR THIS?
Luke 16:16 The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.

OR THIS?
Luke 16:17 And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.

OR THIS?
Luke 16:18 Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery.

OR THIS?
Luke 16:19 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:

Luke 16:20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,

Luke 16:21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.

Luke 16:22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;

Luke 16:23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

Luke 16:24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

Luke 16:25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.

Luke 16:26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.

Luke 16:27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:

Luke 16:28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.

Luke 16:29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.

Luke 16:30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.

Luke 16:31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

I hope you can see what I am getting at.  It is so easy to disregard the parts that don't fit and apply the ones that do.  We just aren't allowed to do it that way.  We are to follow the Word, not lead it.    Again, thank you for your thoughts...I appreciate the time and effort.   D

A tidbit to possibly ponder upon if so led.

Isaiah 10:5 O Assyrian, the rod of MINE anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation.

Isaiah 10:6 I will send him against an hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.

Isaiah 10:7 Howbeit he meaneth not so, neither doth his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy and cut off nations not a few.

Isaiah 10:8 For he saith, Are not my princes altogether kings?

Isaiah 10:9 Is not Calno as Carchemish? is not Hamath as Arpad? is not Samaria as Damascus?

Isaiah 10:10 As my hand hath found the kingdoms of the idols, and whose graven images did excel them of Jerusalem and of Samaria;

Isaiah 10:11 Shall I not, as I have done unto Samaria and her idols, so do to Jerusalem and her idols?

Isaiah 10:12 Wherefore it shall come to pass, that when the Lord hath performed his whole work upon mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks.

Isaiah 10:13 For he saith, By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I am prudent: and I have removed the bounds of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man:

Isaiah 10:14 And my hand hath found as a nest the riches of the people: and as one gathereth eggs that are left, have I gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped.

Isaiah 10:15 Shall the axe boast itself against him that heweth therewith? or shall the saw magnify itself against him that shaketh it? as if the rod should shake itself against them that lift it up, or as if the staff should lift up itself, as if it were no wood.

Isaiah 10:16 Therefore shall the Lord, the Lord of hosts, send among his fat ones leanness; and under his glory he shall kindle a burning like the burning of a fire.

Isaiah 10:17 And the light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame: and it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day;

Isaiah 10:18 And shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body: and they shall be as when a standard-bearer fainteth.

Isaiah 10:19 And the rest of the trees of his forest shall be few, that a child may write them.

Isaiah 10:20 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and such as are escaped of the house of Jacob, shall no more again stay upon him that smote them; but shall stay upon the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.

Isaiah 10:21 The remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, unto the mighty God.

Isaiah 10:22 For though thy people Israel be as the sand of the sea, yet a remnant of them shall return: the consumption decreed shall overflow with righteousness.

Isaiah 10:23 For the Lord GOD of hosts shall make a consumption, even determined, in the midst of all the land.

Isaiah 10:24 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD of hosts, O my people that dwellest in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian: he shall smite thee with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against thee, after the manner of Egypt.

Isaiah 10:25 For yet a very little while, and the indignation shall cease, and mine anger in their destruction.

Isaiah 10:26 And the LORD of hosts shall stir up a scourge for him according to the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb: and as his rod was upon the sea, so shall he lift it up after the manner of Egypt.

2 Kings 19:31 For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and they that escape out of mount Zion: the zeal of the LORD of hosts shall do this.

2 Kings 19:32 Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shield, nor cast a bank against it.

2 Kings 19:33 By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city, saith the LORD.

2 Kings 19:34 For I will defend this city, to save it, for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake.

2 Kings 19:35 And it came to pass that night, that the angel of the LORD went out, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians an hundred fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.

Others have fallen down dead for ALOT LESS than taking the mark of the beast.
Not sure why this is such a hard concept to follow.

CHRIST is coming and those who DIDN'T obey though they had been given every advantage this world has to offer OR EVER HAS in the way of EASILY seeking out Gods truth have BEEN UNFAITHFUL.  They have broken the very FIRST commandment, BIG TIME what ever the reason.

They don't get to be 'transformed' or 'transfigured' or 'changed'.

THEY GET to experience that first DEATH up close and personal.  And it is not going to be pleasant.

Acts 5:1 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,
Acts 5:2 And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet.

Acts 5:3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?

Acts 5:4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

Acts 5:5 And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.

Acts 5:6 And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him.

Acts 5:7 And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in.

Acts 5:8 And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much.

Acts 5:9 Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.

Acts 5:10 Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.

John 6:49 Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead.

John 6:50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.

John 6:51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

HOW CAN ONE LIVE FOREVER IF THERE IS A SLEEP/DEATH that takes place?

John 6:52 The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat?

John 6:53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.

John 6:54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life;

and I will raise him up at the last day.

John 6:55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.

John 6:56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.

John 6:57 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.

John 6:58 This is that bread which came down from heaven:

not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead:

????????????HOW ARE THESE TWO DIFFERENT?????????

he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.

John 6:59 These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.

John 6:60 Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it?

John 6:61 When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you?

John 6:62 What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?

John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth;

the flesh profiteth nothing:

the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

THOSE WHO BELIEVE IN THIS RESURRECTION that they say comes at the end of this age of ages

say the Lord is coming to raise up the BODY THAT WAS PUT INTO THE GROUND.

HOW CAN TTHAT BE WHEN WE READ

1 Corinthians 15:35 But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come?

1 Corinthians 15:36 Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not quickened, except it die:

1 Corinthians 15:37 And that which thou sowest, thou sowest

NOT THAT BODY THAT SHALL BE,

but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other grain:

1 Corinthians 15:38 But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his own body.

And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.

So might as well just shed the dead flesh body and return to God, and since God has seen fit to GIVE US A HEAVENLY BODY ALSO, let's just use that for the fun of it.  After all gonna be soooo much easier to SAY HI, to family and friends.  Must be how the rich man KNEW WHO WAS with Abraham.

No wonder they were talking about fingers and thirst and seeing etc....

Just thinkin and reading and praying and sharing those things.....D

They don't get to be 'transformed' or 'transfigured' or 'changed'.

THEY GET to experience that first DEATH up close and personal.  And it is not going to be pleasant.

2 Thessalonians 2:7-12

7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.

8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

2Thessalonians 2:12 That they all might be damned [judged] who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

"That they might be damned" can be more accurately translated "condemned.” Condemned for not believing the truth in God's Word when given to them. They had the warning, but still followed Satan and partook in his religious system.
