Treasurer  was rarely  hidden away, rather it was on show. Look at the description  of So.omons table, the walls were lined with gold, the utensils  were made of gold, they flaunted there wealth so when the Romans took 5he city they would have stripped the temple, the Palace etc of everything of value.

It would have end3d up being spent, either as soldiers loot or pay or being used to fund the lifestyle of the generals.
