They are very entertaining but I wouldn't trust them near our dogs. Wild ones can do a lot of damage with those sharp teeth. They loved to play in the currents where an underground river empties into the Columbia. I owe my love of nature to Thornton Burgess, a naturalist who wrote books for children ages 4-10. Little Joe Otter was an adventure story book that detailed the life and personality of an otter. Paddy the Beaver gave detailed instructions on how a beaver dam and house are constructed.
