Actually, I have offered - but as we only have one spare room and the vast majority of the refugees coming to the UK are family groups, the offer hasn't been taken up (and it doesn't seem likely to be).

The most important thing is, you offered. Acceptance is up to those designated to do the vetting. Well done for offering 👌👍

I do not think it needs any stirring as your Messiah has already walked amongst you, where mine has yet to appear.
The Christian pot seems to be self stirring while most of the world crumbles from infighting🤷‍♂️

It seems to me that you think that salvation is something you can earn, by doing good deeds? If so, then the Lord didn't have to die for you?

I do not need salvation and was not looking for any by sheltering some souls from Putin's warmongering. My distant forefathers fled persecution for being Jews and eventually found relative safety in The British Isles, so it is right and my duty to fill our spare room with another and her small daughters fleeing aggression. My Master knows the reasons for my family's actions and that is good enough for me.

@Solly

May I ask why you don't think you need salvation?

I might imply you think all scripture post OT was lies?

I am from the line of Levi and as such already from the chosen race. So long as I continue to walk with my Lord & Master always by my side (and I know that He is always there) whilst observing His commandments, I will have nothing to fear right up to and including my last breath on earth.

"Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me".

They are one and the same, yours, mine, and anybody's, regardless of race. Or belief......
You are waiting for His second coming. I look back to His first coming....... :)

PS. I'm also looking for His return, the second coming.

How many members of this Forum have offered to share their home with a Ukrainian refugee bombed out by Putin and his 'special' war?
I am not a Christian but may I take this opportunity to remind you all of what is written in Matthew 23:35 .. "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was a stranger and you invited me in"

I am asking you to look deeply within yourself and then ask yourself; Could I help in G-d's work by sharing my home with a destitute homeless Ukrainian desperate to to leave their homeland for a safer new beginning somewhere else?

How ironic, Solly, that you quoted the words of Christ, but gave the wrong chapter.  It's Matthew 25:35-40, not chapter 23.

Why do I say "ironic"?  I'll cite Matthew 23:35 - the passage you miscited and explain it to you.

You profess your being righteous by your works and your having Levi as an ancestor.

This is EXACTLY  WHOM Jesus was talking to in the actual verse you cited.  Hebrew people, whom he was one of and whom he loved, who rejected him and put their faith and trust in their genealogy and their works and who rejected all the prophets God had sent..

Here it is in context of verses 33-37.

Quote

33 “You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell? 34 Therefore I am sending you prophets and sages and teachers. Some of them you will kill and crucify; others you will flog in your synagogues and pursue from town to town. 35 And so upon you will come all the righteous blood that has been shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berekiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. 36 Truly I tell you, all this will come on this generation.

37 “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing. "

He was talking to the Jewish leadership who are are about murder more than just prophets.  They had Jesus killed by the Romans and they were about to begin killing Christians.

The wrath of God was building up against Jews that were unrighteous - remember many were righteous [Hebrews 11 gives a big list and tells why] - but the ones that rejected all the prophets and murdered some and were rejecting the Son of God were about to receive that wrath of God.

And Jesus Christ was sorry for them and told them so - that he wanted to take them in - but they rejected him.

THAT'S the verse YOU cited, Solly.

Ironic, no?

It's not too late, Solly.  Christ is waiting to take YOU in.  You are in my prayers sincerely.

To everyone else who reads this thread:

Not one person here knows what the other is doing, has done, or will do in the name of God and/or Jesus Christ to champion the poor, the downtrodden, the sick, the infirmed, the lonely,  and all of those that Christ urged us to minister to.

Why do we not know?

We are taught not to boast and brag about it.

We are taught in the New Testament "not to think of ourselves more highly than we ought".

Imagine if I came on here and made a post and said, "I gave $3,000 to family so that they could pay bills for a few months.  I'll bet none of you all have done that.  For shame!"

OK, that was just an example, it's not true.  But what I have done over the past 40 years of being an adult FOR the cause of and in obedience TO Christ in taking care of others will NOT be listed in this forum.

Why?

  • It's prideful.
  • It's boastful.
  • It's being judgmental of others  having NO IDEA of what they do for others.
  • It's mean-spirited.
  • It's self-centered.

Some of you tried to defend yourself to Solly's accusation.  Don't do that.

You owe him nor me nor anyone else a detailed description of how God moves you to work in the lives of others.

Just work for the LORD and give thanks for the opportunity.

  • Thanks 1

👉 Then they came for me and there was nobody left to speak for me 😥

Well...let's look at it..you want to blame the members of this forum...but perhaps it's not the members but your choice of audience.

First off, a large portion of the members of this forum are from the US. We're on the complete opposite side of the world. It's not really practical to ship refugees across the globe, indeed many of them can't even afford a trip. It would be far better off to keep them in Europe.

Second, was this a serious offer? Are you in a place where you can help refugees out of the country and are looking for homes? In which case, you have a legitimate argument, but a poor way of orchestrating it. You'd be better off to say hey, I've got x amount of refugees I need to find a home for, would anyone be willing to house them.

But if that's not the case, then one needs to ask you, what are YOU doing to help them. Are you housing them. Are you actively trying to find homes for them. If the answer is no to those questions, then your post is very judgemental and not likely to bring about the response you want, i.e. getting people to help the refugees.

Your also assuming people who are on here arnt helping the refugees. Maybe they just don't see any reason to advertise it to a bunch of strangers on a online forum.
