The food standard (kosher) was among the requirements. Now, fatty food will still kill you, and poisonous plants, etc. But the legal religious ban is lifted under the banner of Grace and the imputed righteousness of Jesus Christ into our account. Modern nutrition has confirmed this fact. #2. It was intended to keep Israel separate from the nations around them. Paul tells us to eat whatever is set before us. He said this to encourage new Christians that the kosher laws were no longer binding. Jesus even said that it's NOT what goes into the stomach that makes a person unclean. No doubt legalists will tell you we are still supposed to follow kosher, but even a simple reading of the scriptures make it clear to the unbiased reader that we are not. So happy eating.
