.. any other reason for getting a tattoo imo is ok.

@NConly In response to you, it does indeed seem that many Christians do visit the tattoo parlor wholeheartedly, clearly thinking the same as you.

I think the pastor's wife has a faith tattoo..I think I saw one.. quite a few in my church have faith based tattoos and my friend and I were talking about them....I've seen tattoos that have a lot of meaning like mine. I feel mine is special and thankful I got it. I haven't once felt guilty for getting it.

@Dennis1209

My youngest daughter has been getting some tattoo's and it's driving me crazy!

I wouldn't worry if I were you about what you said a while ago. And I certainly wouldn't be surprised.

There was an article which mentioned about a Hollywood film director who wanted to recreate a beach scene from the 1950s - when it wasn't as widespread.

And the Hollywood director could not find enough young women without tattoos for the roles of film extras for the beach scene. (My guess is that they would have had to use gallons of the sort of skin color make up that my wife puts on her face.)

So I wouldn't worry too much about a bit of ink in your daughter's case, since tattoos seem pervasive these days in any case.

Hi @AlsoBroken FYI..........I know the comparison is sometimes made about things that are called addictions; but for legalists to beat up on someone with a tattoo or two (Bible verse or ref., etc.) as if it were like nicotine....I'm not sure the comparison is valid...(what do you think?)

I have four..None of mine are in remembrance of the dead

@NConly

These days when they do it young ppl seem to be saying: "I'm now an adult, so I'm having it done".

Including so many Christians, confidently and wholeheartedly, it seems. It's undeniable.

I saw a quote from soul man about how his family feels about the tattoo parlor:

Quote

they were young when they started, especially my youngest. .. My oldest has a new really good artist, she wants us to get matching tats .. Tattooing in our day is big, if you need or want a tattoo, that is what you should have written in the biggest boldest lettering you can get. Stare at it daily, study it daily, it never gets old. It is the only message you need that flows from scripture in full depth of understanding for anyone that will pick it up and want to know something about it.

people are rarely satisfied with just one

@kwikphilly

Well, I certainly don't agree that for new adults getting tattooed is supposedly the way to feel complete as an adult.

I certainly don't think so.

But then it's also undeniable that so many conservative ppl pursue it.

......................

almost every young girl I know has some sort of tatoo.
Even those very conservative types.

It's undeniable that the most conservative of ppl in large numbers feel drawn to a tattoo parlor to express themselves.

Leviticus 19:28 comes to mind - “You shall not make gashes in your flesh for the dead, or incise any marks on yourselves.”

@AnnaGrace Thanks for your comment.

The chapter also seems to say about not trimming beards, etc.; do you think this reflects the situation of Old Testament Jews in the land under the law, rather than New Testament saints for whom the Gospel rather than the law is the rule of life?

(But no need to respond further, of course, if you don't want to.)

There is much variation in how people today define the gospel. Ultimately, however, the gospel message is very simple: the righteousness of God. New Testament saints, as you’ve stated, are called to live by the gospel - which, again, is the righteousness of God (demonstrated for us in Christ; the perfect Lamb of God). I’m wondering what you believe the law of God demonstrates? I believe it also demonstrates the righteousness of God. Christ didn’t come to abolish the law, but to fulfill it - that is, He came to be the propitiation for the sins of mankind (hence, Him as the Lamb of God).
