A new study from the Mercatus Center at George Mason University concluded that COVID-19 vaccine mandates in nine major cities did not appear to make a difference in terms of curbing cases deaths from the pandemic.

The study examined mandates and statistics from Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New Orleans, New York City, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington, D.C.

"We find no evidence that the announcement or implementation of indoor vaccine mandate in the cities listed had any significant effect on vaccine uptake, COVID-19 cases, or COVID-19 deaths, and this is largely consistent for all US cities that implemented the mandate," said a working paper on the study, titled, "Indoor Vaccine Mandates in US Cities, Vaccination Behavior, and COVID-19 Outcomes." George Mason study finds 'no evidence' that vaccine mandates in major cities reduced COVID-19 cases (yahoo.com)

May not have reduced cases, but from everything I've seen in real life with real people it certainly has reduced deaths.

12 unvaccinated friends dead and 0 vaccinated....    and none vaccinated have died from the shots.

While I don't think I have ever demanded people get vaccinated, I have taken offense of people convincing 7 of my 12 dead friends that the vaccine would kill them.    The other 5 died before the vaccine came out.

The study said "did not appear to make a difference in terms of curbing cases [of] deaths from the pandemic." Not "cases," but "deaths."

While this is not the reality of my world, at least the title of the thread should be changed to reflect what they are actually saying.

I have very close friends who work in ICU departments in several hospitals that told me all through the worst of it that this just isn't the case in the hospitals they worked in.

I might also add that this has become so political and so financial in nature that I really find it hard to believe anything floating around now.   I have to rely on personal experience from both myself and close friends I can trust who were directly involved.

And what would you suggest?

Here is the "key takeaway" point from the study:

Quote

Public health restrictions and regulations were widespread during the COVID-19 pandemic, and so understanding their consequences is essential. The authors find that city-level mandates had smaller effect on vaccine uptake (and consequently on COVID-19 cases and deaths) than nationwide mandates— and thus failed to achieve their intended objectives.

From here.

No real surprise here. It's a largely new and untested technology, against a largely new disease.

I'm sure it's not totally useless, in fact I see it being more effective in a rural environment where your not exposed to as many different strains of COVID as you are in a large city, but it's certainly not the miracle cure they promised.

I don't know how to change the headline.
