Outside The Gates

Revelation 22:

12 And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work. 

13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.

14 Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, 

and may enter through the gates into the city. 

15 But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters,

and whoever loves and practices a lie.

First Question.

If those denied access to the Eternal City have no rights to the tree of life, can this be eternal life,

or a long slow descent into despair?

Second Question.

Is this the outer darkness spoken of three times in the Gospel of Matthew, where there is not

flames of torment, by weeping and gnashing of teeth? (Anguish at being denied access?)

 

Sons of the Kingdom denied by lack of faith.

Matthew 8:

10 When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed, Assuredly, I say to you,

I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel! 

11 And I say to you that many will come from east and west, and sit down

with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. 

12 But the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness.

There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

 

Outsiders who are invited to the wedding of the Son, after the first invitees rejected the offer.

Some answer the call, but show up without a wedding garment.

Matthew 22:

11 But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there who did not have on a wedding garment. 

12 So he said to him, Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment? And he was speechless. 

13 Then the king said to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and

cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

14 For many are called, but few are chosen.”

Who are the called? How is it they are not among the Elect?

 

Unfaithful Servants

Matthew 25:

26 “But his lord answered and said to him, You wicked and lazy servant, you knew

that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed. 

27 So you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming

I would have received back my own with interest. 

28 So take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents.

29 For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance;

but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. 

30 And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. 

There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

 

Those who endure to the end

Revelation 17:14 These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, 

for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are 

called, chosen, and faithful.
